I’ve been playing music since I was 9, and writing since I was 14. I was initially drawn to writing by an interest in the architecture behind music, as creating things has always been a favorite activity of mine. My strong and constant desires to learn more motivated me to excel throughout school, and eventually led me to Berklee College of Music, where I specialized in film scoring. There I cultivated not only a deep, personal musical language, but also extended myself in all different directions, learning to speak with the orchestra, spending lots of time in studios, conducting small ensembles, and generally living and breathing music. From there, the journey led me to Los Angeles, where I continue to pursue music’s various avenues, working on independent films, spending time in the commercial world, and just writing, writing, writing. I consider myself a guitarist at heart, but through years of study have attained so much more.

As a child I watched from the doorway as my older sister took her piano lessons. From that experience I taught myself to play the piano. My formal training came in college where I received my BA in Applied Music in piano and voice. I studied classical music and opera from a visiting professor from Peabody Conservatory, Baltimore MD. I graduated with honors and gave my Town Hall performance in the Spring of my Senior year. I had a passionate desire to be involved in music, to hear it and to perform it. I spent several years singing with the San Diego Opera Company, performing lead roles in Musical Theater and soloing in concerts from Monterrey to San Diego, CA. While still a student in college, I taught piano to children from the local community, so I have accumulated decades of teaching experience. My mom was of the mind that if you find a job you love you will never work a day in your life, and I knew in high school that I wanted to share my passion for music with others. My orchestral instructor at the time was kind enough to recommend the beginner students from the program to me for private lessons. It was then I began the path of teaching.

I have been teaching voice, guitar and piano to students of all ages and levels for over 5 years now. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a BA in Songwriting and Vocal Studies. I teach mostly contemporary musical styles such as Pop/Rock/Country/R&B, but I have also trained and coached many students interested in pursuing musical theater and classical styles as well. I have performed live in countless venues in many cities both as a solo artist, and with a band as a sidewoman. I like to emphasize performance skills as well as the basic techniques. My passion for music and teaching goes way back when I wrote my first song at age 9 about an American Indian girl- I HAVE NO INDIAN BLOOD IN ME- but somehow I felt a connection- possibly something I learned at school or on TV. That experience- it changed and improved the evolution of my maturing through today. I was able to express my thoughts and facts I have learned through a song! Musical instruments- I played the guitar and piano on that first recording and my voice; and wrote out the lyrics and music notes! It gave me such confidence in myself. I felt I had achieved a great deal and won some educational contests and received great respect from my teachers.

I enjoy playing music more than anything else, its been quite literally the one constant for the last decade or so of my life.

I've studied music formally for the past 5-6 years (most recently I've just finished the guitar program at the Musician's Institute).

I've studied everything from general music theory to jazz theory to renaissance theory and all the techniques involved in applying all of these things to the guitar.

I've performed live in bands since I was 17 and have performed in a few musicals, in addition to live experience I've also had experience working as a session musician, a songwriter and arranger.
