I have been playing guitar for 28 years. I took formal guitar lessons for seven years, have won numerous awards locally and nationally, and have been a professional musician for most of my life. I have studied music theory elaborately, was accepted to both the Berklee School of Music in Boston and the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. I choose to start on a musical career immediately after high school; and did so in my hometown of Detroit. I play/teach, have written, performed, and recorded everything from classic/indie rock, jazz, classical, flamenco, etc. I currently front my own indie rock project "The Static Dial", as guitarist/vocalist/songwriter.
I teach all ages; from very young children (ages 6-8) to adults. Music samples are available here on my profile.
I have experience teaching both beginning and intermediate piano and beginning voice. I enjoy working with students of all ages and helping them develop as musicians. I am patient and understanding and believe that students need to feel comfortable with a teacher to optimize the learning experience.
I studied private piano into my high school years and studied organ and voice in college where I was a vocal soloist. I attended Concordia College, Ann Arbor, Mi and received my BA in Music Education from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa
I have accompanied both Middle School and High School Choirs and instrumentalists, played organ and directed church choirs. I currently play organ in two churches and direct a Middle School Choir Chime group. I enjoy working with ...

Children don't learn to read before they can talk. So why should anyone have to try to read before they can play?
That is how music is taught, traditionally and why a huge percentage of students just quit or have a miserable time with piano lessons. Music should be fun. Period.
We will always have a lot of fun, ...

Lessons are taught in my home in a comfortable setting. Parents are encouraged to sit in on lessons and are expected to help their child practice. I teach the Suzuki Method and the Suzuki book and recording are required. I will change details to suit a student, for instance I teach note reading long before a traditional Suzuki teacher would and I will add non-Suzuki materials into lessons if needed.
Elements of the Suzuki Philosophy
- every child (or adult) can learn
- listening and encouragement are essential
- parents are the real teachers, I am the ...
After much success with playing oboe & English Horn in High School I set out to be a professional musician. I achieve a great amount of success such as playing in the San Francisco Ballet, performing with Pepe, and Angle Romero, and starting to have my compositions performed publicly.
After my first year of college I transferred to the University of Michigan and auditioned for the School of Music Composition Department (one of the top composition schools in the country). For the next 4 years I immersed myself in the multifaceted world of composition. Many of my compositions were performed publicly during this period.
I believe that the teaching of music is a calling to share and explore the techniques and skills that can help a student achieve their own personal goals. I enjoy ...
