Music has been an integral part of my world, playing a major role in both my personal and professional life. I embrace the chance to be immersed in it, to share my enthusiasm for and expertise in the area of the music education experience, promoting creative development and student performance skills.
I am an original New Yorker, but have lived in Virginia Beach for the past 12 years. I began studying piano at the age of 8 and have not stopped playing since. It is a gift and a joy to be able to share my love of music performance with people of all ages and abilities. I have also sung in many choirs in addition to performing professionally on the piano and the guitar, both as a soloist and ensemble member.
I rejoice in the success that I see in my students as they learn and gain ...
I have 25 years of Music Theory training and have taught myself to play the guitar, ukulele, banjo, and the cello. I teach introductory guitar and aim to make those early years on the instrument - fun! I give my guitar students a well-rounded introduction to music theory so that they too may explore different types of instruments as they grow in their musical abilities.
I primarily teach from the Hal Leonard series - one that I believe does a great job of introducing guitar students to note reading (as they learn to pick) and various levels of chords (for strumming). I have specialized in helping students transition from one instrument to another. I have been known to teach both piano and guitar to the same student at the same time...helping them to see the connections between the two.
New to the Virginia Beach area, I have 6 years of professional teaching experience and 25 years experience as a performer. I combine these skills to teach music in a way that prepares students to reach their musical goals.
Although I have a passion for music, my day job is as an environmental scientist. I have a long history of teach math and science with non-profits and at the college level. I offer tutoring services for multiple levels of math and science.Â

From beginner to advanced guitar lessons in Virginia Beach Virginia.
When you take Guitar or Singing lessons, you will truly be in for a unique and eye opening experience. As a contemporary singer and guitar player who has performed before tens of thousands, Brian brings a level of experience to the table that ensures that your money is well spent. With his Fast track, self-developed teaching methods, the student learning curve is accelerated.
As a Luthier (Guitar Builder) Brian teaches his students the inner workings of a guitar. By learning and understanding the guitar from a builders perspective, the student will understand how his instrument should work, how it should be set up for easy play-ability and how to identify when something is not right on the guitar.....a bad playing instrument will create loss of interest in the student!
Guitar lessons are tailored to the individual student. Young children I teach music fundamentals and reading along with chords and popular music. Adults are goal oriented and generally know what they want to play.
I would love to teach some contemporary Christian music!
Hello and thanks for checking out my, 'I love me' paragraph ; ).
But really this is about YOU. It's about how my teaching and life experiences may help you along your personal musical journey.
I've learned a great deal in my 20 years of teaching;
- keep it fun
- change it up
It's my belief that music fundamentals are critical and we will create a solid musical foundation by learning the language, understanding the critical issues of timing & rhythm, and reading.
I enjoy working with all ages but specialize in children and adults that act like children!
Stay a child! Learn something new.
What are you waiting for?!
I have a music performance degree (violin) from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and have been playing guitar since 1996. I have taught many students since 2002, including some with learning or physical disabilities. I love teaching, and I'm a patient and encouraging teacher (if I may say so myself!), with an effective, fun, and relaxed teaching style. Call me today--we will get you playing some great music!
Hi, there! My name is Rachel, and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2002, and have loved helping my students learn to read and play, discover their own love of music, and conquer their fears of performing (so much "proud mama bear" happening!). In 2003, I earned my violin performance degree at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where I also studied piano and vocal pedagogy. I'm an encouraging and fun person to work with (if I may say so myself!), and my teaching style is fun, positive, and relaxed. I have worked with many students, including some with learning disabilities, physical limitations, PTSD, and just plain ol' stage fright! I work with you to set your own goals, and I look forward to helping you reach them... ...
