I began music in Winona, MN at age 9 with a pair of drumsticks and went on to become a world champion in 2003 with the Blue Stars drum and bugle corps. I do all things percussion and have been playing for 20 years but these days I do a lot more than just drums.

My time spent studying Music Education at the University of North Texas expanded my musical horizons adding piano and guitar among other tools of the trade. The majority of my students these days are piano students young and old but I love teaching a variety of lessons including guitar and ukelele.

I currently teach piano, drums, and guitar at a local music store in the Twin Cities. I also teach the Hastings drumline in the summer and fall and the Red Wing indoor drumline in the winter time.

Originally from the Milwaukee area, drummer David K. began learning the drumset when he was 12. He took lessons from the beginning and didn't stop until he graduated from college with a Bachelors degree in Music; with an emphasis on Recording Technology. After college David started teaching drum and percussion lessons. He also performed and ran sound for bands in south-eastern Wisconsin. In 2001, David moved to the Twin Cities, where he has been performing, recording and releasing albums with various bands.

A love of music began in the third grade. I started on a silver metal clarinet and have not stopped playing. I am a musician, composer, arranger and performer. I hold a B.A. in music and have taught in the schools for 22 years. I bring extensive knowledge and humor to my teaching. I enjoy working with all age levels and pride myself on being intensely positive.

Music has always been a big part of my life. Performing and recording electric guitar and bass guitar with several bands for over ten years. Toured as lead guitarist with original band for 3 years. Produced & engineered songs for different local artists. I have been teaching private lessons to students of all ages since 2007. I am also a music teacher in early childhood education, currently teaching at several preschools in the twin cities. I was born and raised in Iowa City, IA. I started playing guitar when I was seven years old. I was able to meet one of my biggest idols, at the time, Johnny Lang. He really inspired me and told me if I kept playing, maybe we'd play together someday. I knew then that it was what I wanted to do. By the time I was in high school, I had played in the pit bands for events such as the show choir and musical, and I played in a rock band with my brother. As I child I had an early interest in music, dancing and creative things. I took piano lessons and excelled at my chosen instrument, the flute, in band at school. I continued with my music training at Northwestern College in Roseville, Minnesota and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music Education in 1992. I worked for 11 years in my profession in various settings before I took a break to start my family. My experience includes teaching students in classroom general music, choir, band, piano lessons, and school plays/musicals. I spent six years at a private school (grades K-8), three years at a charter elementary school and 2 years at a public elementary school. Also, since graduating in 1992 I have spent a total of 16 years teaching private lessons both at Hovland Conservatory of Music and in my home. Currently, I play regularly with three different groups. In doing so, I get to play blues, rock & roll, and jazz. At shows you may see me playing electric bass, upright bass, or keyboards depending on the night. During the week I teach lessons to a wide range of ages and abilities.

Playing music quickly became my passion when I started playing at 15 years old. The electric bass was my first instrument, but guitar, drums and keyboards promptly followed. I have been playing drums for over 10 years. Over the years I have studied with some of the top drummers and percussionists in the country, including Gordy Knutson, Dave Stanoch, Shai Hayo, Dana Murrey, Dave Schmalenberger, and Marv Dahlgren. In 2008 I attended McNally Smith College of Music and received my AAS degree in music performance in 2010. Since then I have worked as a professional drummer in multiple groups including The Sugar Benders, Blammity Blam and Maiden Dixie, all the while teaching private drum lessons to students of all ages. I have designed, built, and now run my own professional recording studio, "The Black Lagoon," which has recorded artists from Chicago to Utah. My vocal exploration began at age three singing solos at church, and I later adding ballet and piano lessons to my artistic studies. As a teenager, I performed with the concert choir and madrigal singers under the tutelage of Hal Wildung, a teacher who affected me so deeply with his love of classical choral music that it changed my life, although I wouldn’t realize it until much later. As a young artist, I wrote, sang and performed with numerous original rock, pop, funk & blues bands; simultaneously acting, singing, dancing or choreographing stage musicals. Born and raised in South Minneapolis, MN, Miguel began playing drums at age 11 while in grade school at the Ramsey International Fine Arts Center. He has been performing regularly at local venues and festivals including the Dakota Jazz Club, Artists’ Quarter, and the Twin Cities Jazz Festival with youth bands and with well known local musicians since the age of 14.
