Gina P. Philadelphia, PA

I teach the fundamentals of violin playing: a relaxed and healthy physical technique, how to read music, how to use vibrato, how to play in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th positions, different ways to use the bow, and how to play expressively. I encourage my students to create their own compositions, even if we don't end up writing them down. I teach classical violin technique.

About Gina

I have been making music my entire life. I began studying the violin at age 5 and the piano at age 6, and then when I was 8 started singing in school and church choirs. I received a music scholarship to high school which kept me busy accompanying people and participating in various instrumental and vocal groups. I began taking voice lessons as a freshman at New York University, and I'm now in year 9 of my vocal studies, year 13 of my violin-playing and year 22 of my piano-playing. After graduating from school, I sang in several operas with the Amato Opera company in New York, and staged a recital here in Philadelphia at the First Unitarian Church in which I sang and also accompanied another singer. I have been a professional member of the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh and the ...

Gina is an excellent voice teacher! I am completely new to singing and she is very patient with me. She is very flexible with lesson times. She wants me to have fun, learn vocal techniques, and sing exactly what I find fun to sing. She is great at pointing out what I'm doing wrong and giving me concrete ways to improve. I would definitely recommend her for vocal lessons.

Gina has been teaching me piano and voice for the past 9 months. I look forward to our voice and piano lessons all week long.

I am a hobbyist adult beginner musician and a full-time MBA student. As an adult student who just wants to play popular music and doesn't read music well, I didn't think I'd be able to find a teacher as accommodating as Gina. She is patient and lets me drive our music selections. The most fun part is seeing myself progress week after week under her instruction. I can play songs I never thought possible now. She can teach anybody how to sing harmonies. She even recorded some of our collaborations and then edited them to point out areas where I can improve. She is extremely dedicated to her students' success. Honestly I can't recommend her more highly.

Typically, I use the Suzuki and Strictly Strings books for beginner students, and I will then advance to etude studies such as Wolfarht and Sevick in addition to the Suzuki sequels for my intermediate students. Lastly, I will add Introducing the Positions, Mazas, Josephine Trott Double Stops, and solo concertos to my advanced students.

About Elicia

I began violin lessons at age five, and was requested by the youth conductor to join the Palm Beach Youth Symphony a year later. For eight consecutive years, I performed with many other youth orchestras and served as concert mistress several times. At the age of thirteen, I auditioned for and joined The Venice Symphony during the 2004-2005 season and was a part of their ensemble for seven consecutive seasons, including the position as assistant principal. In addition to the Venice Symphony, I have also performed with the Sarasota Pops for two seasons, The South Shore Symphony Orchestra as assistant concert mistress and as concert mistress, and Anna Maria Island Concert Chorus and Orchestra. Recently, I relocated to the South Philly and am now performing with the Delaware County Symphony ...

I've only just completed my 3rd lesson, but I've already improved a good deal.

Elicia is very good at being able to keep an eye and ear on how you're playing and giving you advice at how to play better or what to correct. She's also very flexible in how she teaches - whether it's more streamlined or casual lessons, she helps your improve either way.
