My mother tells me I was reading music before I was reading words. One of my earliest memories is singing with my church children's choir; I must have been about four. I began piano lessons when I was six and in fourth grade took up the clarinet. In sixth grade I really wanted to sit next to my best friend in band class, who happened to play the oboe. So I made the switch and it stuck!

Most parents want their kids to grow up to be doctors. Mine saw my passion for music and so encouraged me to go to music school. I rebelled, naturally, thinking I would get my degree in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (with a double-major in Music to appease my folks). After it became painfully clear to me that music was really my strong point, I decided to pursue it as a career. I received my Bachelor's degree in oboe performance at the University of California, Santa Cruz and continued on to receive a Master's in choral and orchestral conducting.

I am a tenor that will graduate with my MA in music from San Jose State next month. I completed my BA in Music from Fresno State and love to help students reach their singing potential. As an undergraduate student (and in high school) my voice was classified from everything from bass to tenor and this led me down some tricky roads. This experience has helped me understand that the voice is constantly changing and the only way to survive is to have a solid technique. The technique I teach is strongly rooted in classical singing, but with this foundation you will be able to know your voice well enough that you can sing whatever genre you like without damaging your voice.

As a performer I love to perform many different styles. My training is rooted in classical training and I have many operatic roles under my belt. I also love musical theatre and made my professional musical theatre debut last summer as Seaweed in Hairspray. I also love to sing R&B and pop in my free time.

Catherine D. has worked with musical theater and opera companies regionally and internationally. She has performed in a variety of musicals and operas, including The Music Man (Mrs. Paroo), Honk!ˆ (Henrietta), Once Upon A Mattress (Lady Rowena), Once On This Island, Miss Saigon, Aida, Singing In The Rain, Seussical the Musical, Jesus Christ Superstar, Chess, Die Fledermaus, and Cosi Fan Tutti. Along with Janae Mariant, Catherine co-directed and starred as Jane Watson in the independent film Shirley Holmes and Jane Watson: The Murder In The Park. She has been a regular performer at the Camino Real Playhouse in San Juan Capistrano, CA where she recorded an album of songs celebrating San Juan and its history, entitled “Back to Capistrano,” with songwriter and playwright Gary McCarver. Clarinetist Jeremy F. has studied with members of the San Francisco and Chicago Symphony Orchestras, and holds a Master’s degree in Solo Classical Performance from San Francisco State University. While at SF State, he won the annual Concerto Competition, and took the grand prize at the inaugural Wesley Farrand Day Piano Duo Competition. He has played with the Santa Cruz County Symphony, Bay Area Rainbow Symphony, Coastal Repertory Theater, Symphony Parnassus, the UC Berkeley Summer Symphony and has performed many chamber music concerts in and around the San Francisco Bay Area.

He currently resides in Santa Cruz and performs with local organizations while teaching private woodwind and voice lessons. He plans to pursue a PhD in musicology, studying the feminist implications of the coloratura roles of Mozart’s operas, while continuing a lifelong exploration of the clarinet.

I am currently pursuing a career in opera, competing & auditioning all over, and picking up gigs wherever I can! I was recently featured in a fundraiser in Los Altos Hills singing bel canto and romantic operatic selections!

I practice arias between teaching hip hop, pop, rock, or Broadway lessons. =) l I also work a part time job, but my main passion is music-- I spend most free moments singing, teaching, listening, or thinking about singing and teaching!

After obtaining a BA from UCSD and an MM from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, I have studied and trained in classical vocal technique. Focusing on physical alignment, efficiency, and movement (Alexander Technique) we will combine a focus on proper breathing and phonation to create the best results. Singing is really a full body experience!

Although my true passion lies with classical and operatic repertoire, I also enjoy singing Musical Theater, Classical Art Song, Jazz, Folk, and even Pop styles.

Susan has been a children's and adult theater and music teacher in the Bay Area for the past 20 years. She has had extensive training in singing, acting, improvisation, music, dance, directing and writing.  She has a BA in Theater Arts and attended "The American Academy of Dramatic Arts" in New York. Susan has been a leading show-singer, dancer, actress in New York, Minnesota and San Francisco and the Peninsula. She is also a professional  voice-over commercial artist and has been in many commercials and documentaries nationally. She is a member of SAG and AFTRA talent unions and has won many  awards for her talents. She has produced and directed several children's stage productions throughout her prestigious career.
