My name is Zarni and I am a recent graduate from the Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors in Music Education and Songwriting. During my time at Berklee I received two scholarships, The Korg Endowed for Early Childhood Education and the Scott Benson Scholarship, the highest award given for Songwriting. Most recently I won Most Promising Music Educator Award in the Choral department, an award given by the Dean of the Berklee College of Music.
I am just as passionate about writing, listening to, learning and analyzing the popular music that you listen to!
I have taught in several different environments. I taught for two years at the West End Boys and Girls Club (an after school program for teens ages 10-18) as a vocal and piano teacher. I also started a songwriting program for students that were interested in writing. We rapped together, played pop tunes together, learned how to sing harmonies together and I became a tutor to many of these students wanting to learn songs that they loved. I was also the Berklee Summer Day Sessions Vocal instructor where I had a different group of vocalists every week and we prepared for a final performance. I have also traveled abroad to Cyprus (near Greece) to write, direct and choreograph a musical for students to help them with English language skills through music. Along with teaching, I am also an active writer and performer. I have been featured on several television series (WSKG TV, Newschannel34, Music Closet TV and the Steve Katsos Show) as well as performed on tour along the East coast (Chicago, NY, Philadelphia, Boston) as well as abroad in South Africa and Cyprus.

Greetings! My name is Roland and I am a piano and voice teacher teaching from my studio in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle. I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Music from Western Washington University in Bellingham with an emphasis in voice. As a freelance vocalist, I perform many different styles from opera, musical theater/Broadway, sacred songs and hymns, as well as old-school ballads. I have sung all over the Pacific Northwest (WA, ID, OR) with many different groups and organizations, including the Bellevue Opera, Puget Sound Opera, Fat Chance! Opera Company, Seattle Glee Clubs, in numerous community events, fundraisers, and churches. I was also a first-place winner in the Performing Arts Festival Eastside in the vocal/opera division. As a pianist, I am currently serving as the pianist/keyboard player for the Worship Team at a church in South Seattle.
I have a passion for sharing and teaching music to others and helping people discover their own musical potential. My goal is to help students to learn how to use their respective instruments, helping to develop an appreciation and enjoyment for music so that in the future, they can pass down their love of singing/playing to others, so that they too can enjoy it as well. I'm looking forward to guiding you throughout the learning process and making sure it's fun and memorable!

Congrats Rog. U Earned It, & inspire myself, & others everyday. You got to know the rules 1st, before you can then break the rules. This is how you develop your own unique style. And it's what separates the Pro Players from the rest of the pack.
But even if you don't want to play professionally, maybe you just want to learn a few chords, licks, songs, for yourself, or to impress friends. That's okay too!
I welcome every level and style. I always learn something from my students.
That's what music is all about. Learning & trading tips and licks from other musicians.
Bottom Line Is... I can help you learn and progress on your instrument faster...
Let me be the Music Coach to get you there!

One unique thing about me is that I've have experience in MANY different musical situations ranging from performance and education to arranging, band leading, touring, recording, and writing. I began as a punk rocker as so many people my age did. Learning the songs of the bands I listened to. As I got older and more proficient at my instrument, I began playing for the high school jazz bands and choirs in the area I grew up, beautiful Bremerton WA. When I was 16 I began my formal training at Olympic College where I played bass in several of the school ensembles as well as studied Theory, ear training, and history courses. At 18 I graduated with an AAS degree, took a year off to tour with a vocal jazz group called Jazz line, then applied to Cornish College of the Arts the following year. At Cornish I was exposed to many different world music styles and cultures as well as many different local Seattle musicians. From the time I got to Cornish in 2004 until now, I have been performing in Seattle at least once a week with different groups and usually 3-6 nights a week. Since graduating from Cornish in 2006, I have toured the US,Canada, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas. I am an adjunct Jazz theory instructor at Cornish College of the Arts, Jazz director at Holy Names Academy, Have given workshops and clinics at CAL ARTS, University of Alaska, University of Nevada, CWU, and many high schools and middle schools all over the country, taught on average 30-50 students per week in and around the Seattle area. In a nutshell..... music is my life, I love it, and I love sharing it's beauty with others.

I have loved music as long as I can remember. I know its cliché to say so, but it's true! :)
For me, having parents of different ethnicities and siblings that were much older than me, I was heavily impacted by the wide variety of music to which my family members listened. The force of this crayon box of rhythms and sounds captivated and affected me so much that it is the key experience that I draw from in making my own music today.
I grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska (a small town in the center of the state) so my only option for entertainment and fun was getting involved in the arts! I started performing at a very young age as both a dancer and a musician. I studied classical ballet, modern dance, hip hop and street dance, and world dance traditions throughout my formative years, which helped me to gain rhythmical fluency. I started my formal music training when I began to play the cello. From then on, I was hooked on the sound and I immersed myself in music as much as I could; performing, competing, working in as many musical groups and productions as possible (as both a vocalist and cellist), and even teaching.
I moved to Seattle in 2003 to study opera at Cornish College of the arts, only to later change my major to Jazz, and then again to Latin music studies. Since graduating from Cornish in 2007, with my Bachelor of Music degree, I have been actively and diligently working in the local music scene; performing and recording with artists and groups of many different styles. Everything from various Latin genres, to Rock, to R&B/Soul, to Hip Hop, and Jazz. Through my music, I aim to reach out to people of all cultures. I also aim to teach my own students with the hope that they too can discover the same continuous love of music that I have grown to feel (and still am growing to feel) over the years. :)
