Clarinetist Jeremy F. has studied with members of the San Francisco and Chicago Symphony Orchestras, and holds a Master’s degree in Solo Classical Performance from San Francisco State University. While at SF State, he won the annual Concerto Competition, and took the grand prize at the inaugural Wesley Farrand Day Piano Duo Competition. He has played with the Santa Cruz County Symphony, Bay Area Rainbow Symphony, Coastal Repertory Theater, Symphony Parnassus, the UC Berkeley Summer Symphony and has performed many chamber music concerts in and around the San Francisco Bay Area.

He currently resides in Santa Cruz and performs with local organizations while teaching private woodwind and voice lessons. He plans to pursue a PhD in musicology, studying the feminist implications of the coloratura roles of Mozart’s operas, while continuing a lifelong exploration of the clarinet.

My mother tells me I was reading music before I was reading words. One of my earliest memories is singing with my church children's choir; I must have been about four. I began piano lessons when I was six and in fourth grade took up the clarinet. In sixth grade I really wanted to sit next to my best friend in band class, who happened to play the oboe. So I made the switch and it stuck!

Most parents want their kids to grow up to be doctors. Mine saw my passion for music and so encouraged me to go to music school. I rebelled, naturally, thinking I would get my degree in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (with a double-major in Music to appease my folks). After it became painfully clear to me that music was really my strong point, I decided to pursue it as a career. I received my Bachelor's degree in oboe performance at the University of California, Santa Cruz and continued on to receive a Master's in choral and orchestral conducting.

I began my musical journey began when I picked up one of my grandfather's mandolins at the age of three. Soon after, I discovered that my grandfather had a guitar in his garage. I felt naturally drawn to the guitar; as though my hands were meant to play. I taught myself until the age of twelve, when I inquired about formal lessons with a guitar teacher from my church by the name of James Garcia. I have played with a number of groups throughout the bay area, including legendary saxophonist Bob Mintzer. I hold a degree in music and have studied with teachers such as James Garcia, Rich Hawthorne, Mike McKenna, Doctor Paul Setziol, and Ron Dunn. My goal is to ensure that each student leaves every lesson a better guitar player. My name is Chris. I am currently a Jazz Studies major at San Jose State University. I began my musical journey at Dartmouth Middle School. I played saxophone, and was only mildly interested in music. I stayed in music in high school, but remained only mildly interested until my Sophomore year. I discovered the trumpet and began to listen to Louis Armstrong, and became obsessed with jazz and mastering the trumpet. In just 2 short years, I had studied enough trumpet to travel South America with the San Jose Youth Symphony Philharmonic Orchestra. This was an amazing experience that showed me how important music is (especially to people who don't have iPods and computers). After my South American tour, I decided to teach privately and share my talents with the world. I won a scholarship to San Jose State for music excellence in 2009, and joined the Spartan Marching Band. Educated in Russia, St. Petersburg Mussorgsky School of Music, classically trained, with over 20 years of teaching experience, in addition to violin I teach Music Theory, Music History, Sight Reading and Ear Training to children and adults of beginning to advanced level. I utilize several teaching methods to best suit the needs of a student and make lessons enjoyable and productive. I introduce my students to a variety of styles while teaching classical techniques for lifetime skills. I am a tenor that will graduate with my MA in music from San Jose State next month. I completed my BA in Music from Fresno State and love to help students reach their singing potential. As an undergraduate student (and in high school) my voice was classified from everything from bass to tenor and this led me down some tricky roads.
