Music almost always involves several skills. Below are some of the complementary skills that I can help you with.
In my Semper Method, we always address several of them at every session. For example, we record, sing and play all the time. To sing you should be able to pick out intervals at the piano, or better yet, accompany yourself and everyone needs some music theory. So it really is all one thing.

We have 2 to 3 recitals a year as well as participate in the Michigan Music Association Competition in February each year. It is a wonderful experience for the students to show what they have been learning and also see what other students have been learning. The recitals and the competitions are not required as a part of lessons but they are encouraged as performing is a good addition to learning music. My students and their parents are very supportive of one another and are always thrilled to have another join in our group. One of the very important aspects of performing is sportsmanship and it is one that I take very seriously and I feel it is important for students to learn this not only for music but for life.
I love teaching, simply love teaching! I teach students of all ages. I teach piano, voice, clarinet, and saxophone. I have taught for over 25 years. My students have lots of opportunities for performance, if they choose to. We perform at Nursing Homes, Retirements, Festival of Trees, and Seasonal Recitals. There are at least 2 recitals a year, 1 at Christmas and 1 in the Spring, if enough participation, we often have one in summer with a party afterward. We also participate in the Michigan Music Association competition. I have also had students perform in Disney World in Florida!!! I have been in many musicals such as Annie, Gypsy, Rock Around the Clock. I have put on solo recitals. I am a member of my church choir. My students and I have fun while we are learning music! It ...
I graduated from CMU in May of 2011 with a Bachelors degree in Percussion Performance, and I currently teach percussion and gig in the Detroit area.
Music performance is such a broad topic, and I love how universal it is despite that. There are many aspects that make up music performance, from the music written, to the instrument performed on, to the non-verbal communication that takes place on stage. While I specialize in percussion performance myself, there are concepts that are universal. If you are prepping for a recital, audition, or even school band concert, no matter what instrument you play, there are things you will learn in these lessons that will help you in all aspects of your life.
I studied music performance at Central Michigan University under the instruction of Dr. Andrew Spencer. There I focused on many aspects of music including music theory, ear training, composition, arranging, and most importantly performance. I've studied and performed countless percussion instruments, and currently teach and perform in the Detroit area. For myself, music is not a choice. Music wakes me up in the morning, gets me through my day, and helps me wind down at night. Music keeps me organized and focused through goal setting and prioritizing. Music is how I communicate, without it, I'm speechless. Now, for you, my potential student (or parent), music may play a different role in your life. It may be entertainment, it may be a social exercise, it may be family, it may be ...
