I was born in Long Island, NY where music was always playing in the home. I enjoyed classical and folk music and the music my father played on the piano. I began playing trumpet when I was 9 switching to French horn at 10. I played in band, and when I moved to Illinois at 11. I picked up the guitar at 15, and continued French horn in band and youth symphony in Chicago. In college, I dropped the French horn in favor of the guitar. From there I started performing in coffeehouses and dorm parties.

I college I studied songwriting, jazz guitar, oil and watercolor painting, and philosophy. After getting my BPh degree in creative arts (Oil painting and songwriting) from Grand Valley State College, I continued to study music, playing in the jazz band at Waubonsee Community College and taking music theory and music history courses.

I play professionally, I have over 43 years of music experience I started at a very early age enjoying music, i have played recitals at the high school level on cello. I have been a featured soloist on the 4,5,6,string electric bass as well as the acoustic double bass, I have a CD out that show cases the genres of music that i have experience in. I am very passionate about teaching and instructing my students to acquire a love for music that will inspire them on to greater achievements in life.

A bachelors degree in music ed and 20+ years of playing and performing experience comes with you to every one of our lessons. Whether it be on trumpet, guitar, or piano I will consistently stress fundamentals that lead students towards the musicians they strive to be. I feel incorporating music that is relevant to the student and his or her goals is paramount and doable! I will always demonstrate the techniques and ideas I espouse. Lastly, I show my students the joy music has put in my life and in turn, show them how to play music towards the same ends.

A recent graduate from Illinois Wesleyan University, Gabriella has earned her degree in Violin Performance and will be continuing a Masters in String Pedagogy. A few notable performances she has participated in is two solo recitals, concerts with the Danville, Wheaton and Illinois Wesleyan Civic Orchestra, and many performances with her quartet, including performances at the Consular Corps. Ball in Chicago. She has developed an advanced repertoire for her instrument and greatly enjoys imparting what she has learned with others.

I am a long-time teacher and pro player who understands what students need to know to get to their goals. I work with all levels and ages of students and fine-tune my method for each of them so that every student gets a great musical experience.

Early Guitar Studies & Pit Orchestra Performances (1995-2002)

I began taking guitar lessons at the age of 11 with blues/jazz guitarist Tom Castonzo, a frequent performer, bandleader and teacher in and around the Chicago area. My studies with Tom lasted for many years and covered various musical and technical aspects of many different styles ranging from jazz to classical and everything in between. In 2002, I began performing in pit orchestras for various musicals including Jesus Christ Superstar, Les Miserable, The Wiz, Little Shop of Horrors, and Seussical the Musical.

Original Music Projects (2003-Present)

From 2003-2008, I wrote and performed music for 2 different progressive rock bands: Dream Haven and The Unit Theory. I came to music through the "back door", but I am in good company. Like many professional and some famous musicians, I am mostly self-taught. I did not study music in school. I got hooked during the "British invasion" and have been studying ever since. One thing I understand about teaching music is that it is a two-way street. More precisely, I have learned that teaching is one side of the coin, the other is learning. Teacher is student. What I mean is, we learn more about music together. You can go to your college and go to your school, and I have along the way, but you never stop learning about music. No wonder it is such a captivating pastime.

I have taught voice lessons for about 10 years to children and adults of all ages, abilities, and musical tastes. I received my Master of Music degree in Voice Performance from Florida State University, and a degree in English from Knox College. Most recently, I sang as a soprano soloist at Carnegie Hall, as part of a performance of Haydn's "Lord Nelson Mass."

Students have come to me to improve their singing in many different styles, from pop music to musical theater to classical. I have taught experienced musicians as well as people who have never taken a lesson before.
