Fiddle, Guitar, Mandolin, Music Theory, Ukulele, Violin

About Me

I've been playing music since I was 14 years old. I studied classical guitar at State University in Buffalo, NY. and also studied guitar at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. I love just about every style of music. I mostly play Celtic, Bluegrass, American traditional, jazz, and classical. I also love to improvise.
My goal is to get my students results so they feel that they are really making progress. I do this by incorporating practice exercises, ear training and some music theory.
Music theory and reading music can be intimidating for beginning students. So I like to get you playing first and add theory a little at a time so you can better understand it through experience and it makes learning more fun.

Subjects Taught

Bass Guitar, Classical Guitar, Guitar, Music Recording, Music Theory

About Me

I have been playing guitar, bass and keyboards for 15 years. I have played in numerous bands including the Pyronauts, a Sacramento area based instrumental surf band. From 2001-2004, I attended Chico State University where I received my B.A. in Music/Recording Arts and have also worked as an engineer on a variety of recording projects, including albums, demo projects and jingles. I want to pass on to my students the love of music and recording that I have.

*** Lesson Details ***
My approach to teaching is somewhat laid back. I don't like to stick to a really strict curriculum because I like to tailor my lessons to individual students. This is because I want to instill a real passion for music. I focus on teaching you the styles of music and songs that you want to learn. I like to teach music theory as it applies to the type of music that you like, that way it's not simply theoretical and can be understood directly as a tool of music composition. Although my approach to teaching is open, it is very important that you practice at least twenty minutes a day because that's where progress really happens.

*** Studio Equipment ***
A designated music room with recording equipment, music stands, 88-key weighted keyboard, has an extra electric and acoustic guitar

*** Travel Equipment ***
2 electric guitars, 2 classical guitars and a steel string acoustic guitar, 1 electric bass and an electric keyboard

*** Specialties ***
Visualization, transcribing music

About Me

I have been teaching for over 23 years and I get joy out of passing on all I have learned through my years as a professional guitarist.

Whether a student wants to play professionally or strictly for his/her own enjoyment, the gift of music is a wonderful and beautiful thing.

Although I specialize in teaching "Rock-Blues", I do teach other styles such as: Acoustic Delta Type Blues, Texas Blues, Jazzier Blues, Rock and R&B.

Ear training is another part of my teaching. This is a wonderful help to students wanting to be able to learn songs on their own. How to listen and be able hear the keys, chord changes, solos and so on. I can really help you with some basic guide rules to expanding your ears.

How to play better "Rhythm Guitar"! Oh yes, the fine art of "Rhythm Guitar Playing". This is where the magic can really happen for you. The wonderful world of chords and the use of rhythm patterns. A must for any player!

And finally 'soloing" in both major & minor pentatonic. How to play those cool 'blues licks" and how to phrase them. I will help you with better note selection & better phrasing".

I also conduct workshops/clinics. The workshops have been such a great way for students to learn how to play ensemble (together with other players).
I will teach you how to use your gear. How to get the cool tones and use your amp and pedals. Also the knobs & pickups on your guitar.

I am very passionate about my teaching. If you are interested in studying with me, please contact me.

If you love guitar, then play it!

*** Lesson Details ***
Here's the thing, I keep it "musical' from lesson one. In other words I will teach you how to apply things right away. I will also help you take the "mystery" out of rock blues guitar.
I am a very patient, laid back and very passionate about teaching.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Teaching Room at Tall Toad Music (Petaluma): cables, small amps, music stand, chairs.

Subjects Taught

Acting, Bass Guitar, Broadway Singing, Clarinet, Classical Guitar, Flute, Guitar, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Piano, Saxophone, Singing, Speaking Voice, Trombone, Trumpet

About Me

I have been involved in music all of my life. As a child I played trumpet in band and sang in school and church choirs. My favorite movies were musicals and they still are my favorite. Music was my major in college, which included singing, dancing, acting and playing musical instruments. I like all types of music. As a school teacher, I taught 3rd. grade through high school, everything from band and choir to musical theater. I also taught private students, of all ages, piano, guitar, voice and most of the wind instruments.

*** Lesson Details ***
My students can expect to learn the basics of music theory, such as melody, harmony, key signature and rhythm. I want my students to have fun by learning the kind of music they like best while learning to appreciate the kind of music that will develop their musical skills. Piano books like John Schaum and guitar books like Mel Bay's Guitar Method are good books to learn to read music and learn the proper way to play your instrument. Scale exercises are important for instrumental, as well as, vocal students. I use a practice log and CD-DVD recordings of my students so they can see and hear their progress. At the end of 6 months I want my students to play their favorite songs in 3 different keys. C, G and F Major.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Designated music room: Two keyboards, guitars, sound equipment, PA system, computers, seating for parents (he encourages it!)

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students need their own inst. I have one of every inst. to demo. except piano and guitar which I have 2 of each.

*** Specialties ***
Open-minded to all music. I specialize in performance. I help my students with their look, as well as, their sound. I know how to bring out the best in my students.

Trey X Petaluma, CA

Subjects Taught

Bass Guitar, Drum, Guitar, Music Recording, Music Theory, Songwriting

About Me

My passion for music has led me clear across the country, from Boston to the San Francisco Bay Area. I have played guitar for 17 years, in various bands of many different genres, and have attended music schools on both coasts to fortify my musical knowledge. I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and then graduated from Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park. My specialties are in rock and metal guitar, and also in composition and music theory.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching style is centered around the individual learning styles of the student, rather than the imposition of an impersonal broad curriculum. You may find me to be laid back, but I expect my students to be dedicated and to practice the material so that we can progress together. I find that beginners especially will be more inclined to stick with their instrument when they are playing music that they like, and will also be more inclined to explore some more traditional sources like written music, etudes, jazz stuff, etc. Therefore I always begin by asking what YOU want to learn and what YOU would like to play, and then build a curriculum around that.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Pro Tools

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring chord stamps, a laptop to print out music, and my guitar. I expect that the student will provide a notebook, music/tab paper, songs they wish to learn, their instrument, and a willingness to practice!

*** Specialties ***
I have studied jazz guitar and some classical but my specialties are rock and metal guitar, as well as songwriting, composition, and music theory. I can teach beginner drums and up through intermediate bass guitar.

Liz J. Sonoma, CA

Subjects Taught

Acting, Broadway Singing, Flute, Guitar, Music Performance, Music Theory, Opera Voice, Piano, Singing, Songwriting, Ukulele

About Me

After graduating California Institute of the Arts with a multi-focus on several aspects of music including African dance, Indonesian gamelan, songwriting, recording, classical voice and piano, folk guitar, and more, Liz had the excellent opportunity to teach theater to a local musical theater summer youth program. All summer, she taught class sizes ranging from 10 to 26 students of the ages 5-10. Her initiative later led to being hired at this local community theater. Along with this theater teaching experience, she has been teaching piano, guitar, ukulele, flute & voice lessons for over 9 years. Her students have gone from knowing nothing about music to learning and performing entire pieces on their own as well as even auditioning & for agents and becoming signed artists in Los Angeles. Liz knows that it is her place in the world to teach music & spread positivity through her own music and would love nothing more than make learning music a positive and fun experience for everyone.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach out of the Alfred's Piano course, but am open to trying out any music books you may already have in your home. I do expect my students to purchase the books they would like to learn out of and to have the material I have given them for homework ready, completed, and practiced by the time we have our weekly lesson. I recommend at least twenty to thirty minutes of practice every day, and will give rewards for having practiced well, and for performing well in our lessons. I would love it for my students to be clear on what they would like to learn, and I love using songs that the student enjoys to make his or her music learning process fun.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In my home studio, I have a full size Cable-Nelson upright piano, as well as two ukuleles, and two guitars (one acoustic-electric and one electric).

*** Travel Equipment ***
When I travel, I bring my own instrument that the student is learning on so that I can demonstrate, as well as a music stand if necessary.

*** Specialties ***
Pop, folk, opera, musical theater, classical, rock, reggae
