This has been a truly enjoyable experience.

Don was teaching several of my charter high school students in guitar/vocal and music production. After a quick observation of his classes, I signed up for lessons as well. I am an adult student and have been taking guitar/vocal performance lessons with Don for three years. This has been a truly enjoyable experience. Don combines proper technique with enough creativity to make our lessons fun. Don is an inspirational teacher. He tuned into my musical tastes and tailored his lessons to my desires. I highly recommend Don to any adult or youth students interested in furthering their skills and enjoyment of music performance.

Family Fun on Ukelele and Strumstick

Don has been wonderful to work with as a Ukelele and Strumstick instructor. I had an idea to get music lessons for my husband and 5 year old daughter as a Christmas gift. The thought was to have special Daddy and daughter time; sharing something that my husband loves to do. Don has worked with us to create a whole experience for them around music lessons. Don has succeeded in building an environment for our daughter to enjoy the music lesson experience. The first time she played 'hot crossed buns' brought a tear of joy to my eyes. He has even included me in the group lessons on Strumstick. My husband has expanded his knowledge of musical instruments and enhanced his playing skills with Don's skillful instruction. Don has made the whole experience delightful for our family.

The Ukulele is tuned exactly like the top 4 strings of a guitar capoed up 5 frets, and the 4th string is tuned an octave higher. All the shapes one learns on one or the other are transferable, though the chord and note names change (up/down 5 semitones/frets).

About Rick

Rick's been teaching Pop Styles Guitar at the Mount Olivet School of Music in South Minneapolis (M-Th) ever since graduating with a degree in Music from the University of Minnesota (T.C. and Duluth Campuses) in 2003. He also teaches traveling lessons to students in the south and southwest metro areas. Rick plays around town in 3 bands and also does the occasional Musical Pit Orchestra and Wedding gig. He also taught at Dayjams Rock Music camp in St. Paul for the five summers of its existence. In his spare time he writes YA Stories and Musicals, as well as running a Songwriting and Music Theory Blog about Tonal Trends in popular music, and a Guitar Curriculum Blog based on Karate Belts. *** Lesson Details *** Depending on student interest, lessons can consist of Ear Training, ...

Rick taught our 7-year old son for quite a few months, and did a fantastic job. We were pleased with his energy, enthusiasm, and ability to connect with young people.

We were sad when our son decided that he'd like to take a break from music and play more tennis, but hope that this, his first musical experience, will inspire him to return to it at some later point.

I highly recommend Rick.

Groovy dude that can teach

Mike let me determine what I wanted to work towards and had a plan of how to get me to that goal. It's not run of the mill "boring books" that you could figure out by yourself. He really finds your passion in music and tears that wide open. Great dude, with a positive attitude on life. He even helped me write some of the songs I had been working on! I would recommend him to my friends and family for sure.

I will tailor classes to meet your needs and wishes. I love the Ukulele. It is one of the few instruments that can be picked up and played for the first time with a sense of satisfaction. I teach all different methods and fundamentals from the origins of the ukulele to what it can become in your hands. Structure or no structure will be your choice. Let your instrument speak for itself. No bars. No holding back and no doubts.

About Jonny

I have experience in all forms and methods. From the bare fundamentals to hardcore, punk and jazz I am a man of many hands. A jack of all trades and a master at most. Music is more than a passion to me. I would love nothing more than to pass along all that I have to offer. I am humble, sweet and understanding. How about we grow together?
