It's been almost a year that I've lived in the Twin Cities metro area, and it's causing me to look back on the time I've spent here - good food, good people, and outstanding music. The entire Minneapolis-St. Paul area is riddled with concert venues, bars, opera houses, concert halls, colleges and universities, theaters, and clubs (need I say more?) bursting at the seams with eager performers and reasonable admission prices, sometimes even free. Whether you are taking singing lessons in Minneapolis or simply a fan of live music, going to a show, concert or performance is always a great way to kick back after a long day's work - and if you don't watch out, you could end up learning a thing or two.
In my studio, I am a huge advocate of jumping in with both ears. Going out and listening to local musicians and performers is a fun way to keep the educational process flowing. It keeps students' end goals in sight, gives them something to work toward, and also helps shape their preference for the sound/style they want to pursue. Seeing a show can often take the pressure off of individual study and can breathe some creative initiative in the mind. It is very easy to get one-dimensional with studies in private singing lessons in Minneapolis - keeping good posture, correct notes, rhythm, and a concert can be a welcome change of pace for a student. Sometimes we forget about the end result: enjoying the experience.
Inevitably, going to a show is about enjoying the experience, and supporting our colleagues and friends in the arts. It is the audience that drives the prevalent music scene in the Twin Cities as much as the performers. So as the spring and summer approach, get out there and support local music of all shapes and sizes; in addition to your enjoyment of the performance, it adds to your musical education.
