I began music in Winona, MN at age 9 with a pair of drumsticks and went on to become a world champion in 2003 with the Blue Stars drum and bugle corps. I do all things percussion and have been playing for 20 years but these days I do a lot more than just drums.
My time spent studying Music Education at the University of North Texas expanded my musical horizons adding piano and guitar among other tools of the trade. The majority of my students these days are piano students young and old but I love teaching a variety of lessons including guitar and ukelele.
I currently teach piano, drums, and guitar at a local music store in the Twin Cities. I also teach the Hastings drumline in the summer and fall and the Red Wing indoor drumline in the winter time.
On a completely different note, I'm a veteran member of the Twin Cities Terrors all-star men's roller derby team. I travel across the country as Egon Strangler challenging teams on roller skates from Dallas to New York. You can find more info about when I'm skating next at tcterrors.com or just ask me about it. I love to talk about derby.

I enjoy working with all age levels and pride myself on being intensely positive.

I am a 28 year old drummer with 19 years of experience spanning all genre's and styles of music. Countless hours of stage performance with bands. A love, drive and passion for music and drumming you won't find in any other instructor! Multiple studio recordings both behind the mixing board and behind the drum set. 8 years of teaching experience, realizing the importance of setting a unique curriculum for each student tailored to fit each individual's goals and interests. I have been involved in bands ever since middle school, starting with rock, and moving on to perform in country bands, hip-hop performances, indie rock bands, and progressive rock bands. A strong knowledge of jazz techniques and music theory as well as the ability to read drum sheet music make me a perfect instructor for any student.
I have had many beginner and intermediate level student's and have become proficient in determining what skills each individual student needs to work on as well as helping students progress in their interests, keeping the lessons fun and the student motivated. I can easily transcribe any song as well! So any song you might want to learn, even if there is no sheet music, is totally doable. I love working in odd time signatures and I prefer fancy hi-hat work over heavy double-bass drum use. Progressive / Indie rock is my favorite genre of music to play, but I have tons of fun playing hip-hop, punk, metal, I dabble in jazz, Latin rhythms, and pretty much anything else. I'm always excited to play drums, and I pass this excitement on in my teachings.
I am Anthony B. and have just moved to Minneapolis to complete an internship for my degree. I will be graduating from South Dakota State University with a B.S. in Arts & Sciences in Music Merchandising with a degree emphasis in percussion performance. I will be fully graduated come December of 2013. I have been playing percussion since the 5th grade and have been teaching since high school. I can teach beginners the ropes of drum set as well as more advanced concepts in many different styles. I have been working with High School drum line programs for the past 3 years.
I have had great teachers over the years and have learned to teach through shadowing their styles and philosophies. My drumming has taken me all over the country as well as all the way to Montruex Switzerland where I played with my college Jazz Ensemble at the Montreux Jazz festival in the summer of 2012.
I offer basic drum lessons to advanced drumming techniques. I am skilled at snare drum and drum set and can help you reach your musical goals. I can also teach traditional grip if it is of interest to you. I can also help you with marching snare technique.
We will cover grips, proper bounce stroke, diddle technique, rudiments, basic rhythm reading, subdivision, standard rock beat, swing feel, fills, as well as an introduction to Latin rhythms.
In-depth focus on grip (french grip technique), stick control, foot technique, buzz stroke, Funk studies, Bossa, Samba, and some odd meter grooves.
Creative soloing, Linear drumming, Cascara, Songo, Soca, and Mambo. We can even do some double bass if you want!
I may require a few books based on experience but am more than willing to write out some parts for you. If you want a well rounded and versed teacher than I am who you are looking for. I have had students grow exponentially in a few short months. I recently worked with an 8th grade student that was playing advanced swing and Cascara patterns after only a few months of lessons. Whatever style you want to learn I can help you learn it and teach it to you in a way you will understand with ease.

"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
