No need to be nervous before my lessons. My lessons have a comfortable atmosphere where students can be okay with learning with mistakes; through trial and error. I always keep a light mood with quick bits of humor. I teach in a relaxing way, but at the same time you may expect to leave with new musical knowledge every lesson. I enjoy showing the connections between music and other areas of study and life. I always finds ways to work a student's personal interests into lessons. I always strive to help students learn how to practice in an efficient and organized way.
I am a published composer and active performer/teacher/conductor with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and a Master's Degree in Conducting!

*** Lesson Details ***
Lisa teaches all styles of voice including Classical, Italian, Jazz and Folk styles as well as Contemporary, Pop and Broadway. She incorporates the fundamentals into her every day teaching style and helps the student to grow in their technical ability through application in each song they study. Lisa teaches the student how to use their voice correctly as well as how to have good stage presence and performance ready ability.
Lisa teaches beginner piano students from age 5 through method books as well as more advanced students in either Classical styles or Contemporary styles. Some students have the desire to be concert pianists or to teach piano themselves, others just wish to play with a band or play songs which they can sing to. Both styles are valuable skills to learn. Lisa will discuss with the student which direction they would like to go and decide together what the student would like to learn.
You will receive a copy of Lisa's studio policy at your first lesson. You will be required to read over and sign this policy before lessons are to continue.

I am a life-long singer and a life-long learner, and I want to help you discover the joy of having music in your life! I was 7 years old when I started singing in our church choir, learning to read music as I practiced with the grown-ups every week. In high school, I sang in the choir and in musicals. In college, I majored in Music/Voice Performance and prepared for my senior recital. After earning my BA and graduating Phi Beta Kappa, I worked with youth camps and community theater and church choirs. I began substitute teaching for grades K-8 when my youngest child started school and was thrilled to step in for band lessons and general music classes along with general class curriculum. My 4 kids were in bands and choirs and musicals, and I loved coaching their auditions and solo spots at home. I taught Voice and Musical Theater through CYT for 7 years. I participated in 5 community theater productions and sang with Chicago Master Singers in that time as well. Collaborating with others as they explore their range as singers, musicians, performers, and human beings is one of the most exciting activities you can be involved in...and you can continue to do that for as long as you can breathe! I look forward to working with you and helping you discover your own voice!
*** Lesson Details ***
Singing involves your whole being: physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual. Lessons will include each of these aspects in a personal and fun dialogue. You will learn about the physiology of producing sound and how your body works. You will learn how to convey emotion with your voice, how to address anxiety and build confidence in yourself as a performer, how to follow the road map of a musical score and how to develop sight-singing skills. You will experience what it feels like to sing with your whole being and hopefully, share that experience with others in a unique performance. You will provide a CD player and a keyboard in your home. You will choose the pieces you want to work on and provide sheet music and accompaniment. I will help you make the most of what you've got and celebrate the joy of your gifts with you!
If your lesson is in Math or English, my goal is to communicate concepts in creative ways across different learning styles. As a published writer and previously certified substitute teacher, I love helping students unlock the ideas behind symbols, whether they're words or numbers or musical notes!

***My goal as a teacher***
I try to teach what the students are interested in and make it fun and interesting so that they learn the lessons and their favorite songs. Every student is different and needs to be taught in a way that makes learning easy and fun for them.
I have a passion for all people and all ages and am blessed to be able to teach from the very young, (ages 2-5 Kindermusik lessons) to teens and adults.....all the way to senior citizens. I've had many older students all the way up to a 93 year old gentleman who is taking singing lessons and asked me to put music to his lyrics. We have recorded over 50 songs together.
I started playing trumpet in 5th grade and knew that music was for me. I also liked playing with drums and piano also because they seemed exciting. I've competed in WSMA (Wisconsin School Music Assoc.) for many years which taught me a lot about performing for judges, being relaxed, and the importance of preparation.
I started playing the guitar and bass guitar when I was 13 and have never stopped practicing and performing since. I also have done a lot of writing, recording, producing, and have a Pro Tools Studio for students to use.
***College and Teaching***
I began teaching music lessons in college and enjoyed it very much. I received my B.A. in Music from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. There I was very much involved with guitar, piano, voice, trumpet, and being in bands and writing music. After receiving my B.A. I also took 3 years of Education classes at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. I write, produce, and perform my music along with performing with bands around the Midwest.
***Life in Music***
After receiving my B.A. in Music, I continued teaching and opened up my home studio. After a year and a half I had enough students that I was able to quit my factory job and teach music full time. I've been teaching, performing, and writing music ever since.
***Performing and more***
I have been on stage performing music since I was 11. In school band, marching band, competing in music competitions, and in bands touring the midwest.
I have recorded many CDs with bands and on my own. My most ambitious project was a CD of my original music called, "Girls". I've performed my music and promoted it by being interviewed on Milwaukee radio stations along with internet music sites such as CD Baby. It is very exciting talking on live radio about my music and my passion. It is also even more exciting, and scary, playing my music live on the radio, lol.
I have been teaching for over 2 decades. Students take lessons for:
* guitar (electric / acoustic)
* music theory / ear training
* studio recording / songwriting
I also give kindermusik lessons to 2-5 year olds all the way up to senior citizens 70-93. I play parties, concerts, and Nursing Home performances.
I am experienced as an online (Skype) instructor, and I have taught online lessons worldwide. I've witnessed great results from my online students (both national and international).
I hope I can help you with all of your musical goals and get you going in a positive musical direction.
I was born in Chicago, and have been living in Milwaukee for the past year while finishing a degree in Music History at UW-Milwaukee. I studied piano for fourteen years and have recently resumed study for the purpose of my degree, and I am fluent in both fundamental classical and jazz piano. I studied voice at the high school and college level, have been in a number of professional performing choirs, and was recently an ensemble member in UW-Milwaukee and Milwaukee Opera Theatre's production of L'Enfant et Les Sortileges. I am well-versed in music theory, as its study is part of my degree. I also have a solid musical theater background, both as an actress and an accompanist. Outside of school, I perform in the Milwaukee Irish traditional music circuit, and am an independent folk/blues performer.
PLEASE NOTE: I will be completing the background check within the next two weeks for financial reasons. I would also love to teach special needs students, but, as I have no training in that area, I don't feel qualified to do so.
"Steven is very professional and extremely helpful. He always has a smile on and is serious about helping you phrase the music. I would highly recommend him to anyone."
"It's been really exciting so far! Jordan has been so helpful, so knowledgeable. I could not have found a better instructor and I'm getting better and better every day."
"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
