Chiang L. Chicago, IL

I basically focus on fundamental skills. Trumpet is a tough instrument to play: it only has three keys but has to play a wide register like other instruments. It is common for students to get bored with playing basic etudes, therefore I would award them by teaching pop songs or whatever pieces they like for meeting the week’s progress. I normally teach classical trumpet, marching trumpet and beginner’s jazz trumpet.

About Chiang

I am a trumpet instructor with global experience and an approach to learning that is encompassing and fun for all ages. I was born in Taiwan and have studied in both Asia and the U.S., where I last earned my Master of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. Students have described me as someone who is out going, someone who is laid back and fun and someone who likes to listen and communicate with my students. I have been teaching trumpet and piano since sophomore at college, in private one-on-one lessons or as a trumpet sectional coach at elementary schools or middle schools.

I believe that being an educator is about the communication and the relationship that exists between a teacher and a student. The art of being a good educator exists in the ...

I am taking piano class with Chiang since 3 months ago, starting from scratch. He has been very professional and knowledgeable, and in the meantime, being nice and forgiving (especially when I have no time to practice due to my work).

John is fun (and forgiving)

I haven't touched a piano since middle school, and while I was apprehensive going back to playing the piano, John made it rather fun and interesting. The first impression I had of John was how animated he was, and how much fun he has teaching and how much fun he wants you to have.

I love to play the trumpet. I play it in shows almost every day and love the way that Jazz sounds coming through a horn!

About Eric

I am a professional musician who enjoys helping young people reach their musical goals. I perform regularly as a solo act and play with a band at various hotels in Chicago. I went to Millikin University in Decatur for music where I toured the country and played and sang in the top ensembles. I also studied at the Music Industry Workshop in Chicago for music production and engineering. My goal is to help you learn the songs you love and show you how to make the technical side of music more fun than you ever imagined!

About Nicholas

Nick comes from a family of four generations of music in the GREEK/Balkan repertoire. He graduated from Columbia College of Chicago with a concentration in Music Composition in December of 2009. Currently teaching and performing professionally, Nick enjoys all styles of music, but has been declared as an "old soul" by many of his friends. He enjoys playing lots of Motown, funk, and jazz, but is proficient in Classical, Rock, and Blues as well. When not playing music (rarely), he is a Board member for the GivingBackPack Foundation which provides school supplies to underprivileged children. Nick's dedication to education is shown through his music and his personal volunteer hours, he feels his diverse background gives his students an advantage to a broader perspective of ...

Mr C. is a very knowledgeable and talented trumpet player. I have zero experience with the trumpet and music for that matter, but he makes learning easy and enjoyable. He gives good tips and practice methods. Very down to earth and doesn't set strict expectations and takes it day by day. Would recommend to anyone.
Dan M. Glen Ellyn, IL

Every level welcome. I have found the most success with using "Standards of Excellence" for beginners. As students progress, more materials will be needed. "Arban's: Complete Method for Trumpet" is standard for advancing students in my curriculum.

Dan has taught for about 10 years and speaks with efficient feedback. His experiences playing in ensembles has made him an extremely strong musician. I would recommend him for any advanced brass lesson tutoring. He can relate to people of any age so younger students would benefit from his energetic nature as well.
Kellyann W. Bolingbrook, IL

The beginning trumpet student will learn posture, embouchure, breathing, and other techniques, along with playing enjoyable repertoire.

About Kellyann

I have a Bachelor's of Science in Music Education and Sacred Music with emphases in piano and voice from Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, IA, and have taken several graduate level professional development courses that have enhanced my abilities as a musician and teacher.

Throughout my high school and college careers, I was involved in many musical groups, so I know the challenges that accompany the pursuit of excellence and a full schedule. This has given me an understanding of students' needs while maintaining high ...
