Knowing at the age of 5 that music was my life, by being brought up surrounded by praise music and gospel, my early exposure to music helped me to find every Instrument and style just my thing! I wanted to play everything and learn all aspects of music. I started with singing in the children's choir and then developed into piano and music theory. At the age of 12 I began to learn classical guitar, and at 15 took on various styles like Flamenco, Jazz and Rock. I graduated from High School having played in the school band achieving recognition In national Institutions Like IAJE (International Association for Jazz Education) and state band finals. I was also composing from a very early age, and at 18 released my first album (self-titled) which can still be heard and purchased today through various music outlets, since i have released over 15 albums with various ensembles and bands. I am a singer, pianist and guitarist who, through the arts, has achieved a lifelong love and passion for performing and teaching music. This love for music prompted me to pursue music education at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music leading to my certification for teaching music K-12 including band, orchestra, chorus, and general music. Using music, I plan to broaden my students’ perspectives, increase their appreciation for classical through popular music, and ultimately, improve their musical ability. I hope that through lessons we can explore my students' musical goals, helping them achieve their dreams as well.

Hi! My name is Barbee and I am pursuing a Master of Music in Voice Performance from the University of Miami's Frost School of Music. I recently graduated from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance, and I have experience teaching singing, piano, speaking, and music theory. I have taught students ages five to adult, male and female, with all levels of experience and many different musical goals. I have performed in Italy, the Czech Republic, and the US, in operas, musicals, oratorios, concerts, and recitals.

My Background:
I have been singing since the age of four! I am a native of Miami Beach Florida. I started performing in church and school where my passion for performing were developed. Having come from such a background I was privileged with a well rounded musical tastes, from Gospel in church Classical in school, and Reggae, Pop, Rock, and R&B from her parents. In performing in contests and local shows I learned a lot about stage presence and can share that with my students as well. I earned my bachelor's in Studio Music and Jazz Voice and the University of Miami as well as a Minor in Music Business. At UM I had the opportunity to study with critically acclaimed Jazz musicians and artists such as Kevin Mahogany, Kurt Elling and John Secada. Since earning my degree I've worked with the Florida Grand Opera in their production of Aida, also sang background vocals for Gloria Estefan...

With four wonderful years of musical teaching experience, I share my gifts and talents with those who too want to express themselves through music. I believe music is worldwide language and so do not intend to stifle any students individual style or sound with technique. Instead I allow the student to take the lessons and techniques learned and together we find ways to adapt to that style so that their best 'musical picture' is heard.
Apart from teaching, I enjoy singing at my own gigs, doing backgrounds for other artists, and working on new music for production in the studio. I have produced my debut album in 2007 and have released two new singles marketed to the Caribbean/reggae/latin genre. I have directed elementary and middle school choirs and led the musicianship of musicals.
I believe if a student has their talent, dream, and enthusiasm packed in their backpack...then they are ready to start lessons.
