Karen was born and raised in a musical family in Lindstrom, Minnesota. Karen has loved to sing and play instruments almost all of her life, and became passionate about music early in her childhood. She has played 7 instruments proficiently including piano, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, ukulele, trombone, recorder, and voice (also an instrument). As a child, Karen took private instruction in piano and classical guitar. She sang and played guitar in her first band in the fifth grade! In high school she played trombone in band, bass guitar in stage band, and sang in the high school choir and stage chorus. In high school, she also sang and played acoustic and bass guitar in a rock band called the 6 pack, who performed for school dances and community events. Teaching drums for over 13 years, Aaron has influenced hundreds of budding musicians to get the most from their instrument. He has studied privately with Rob Laytham (Modern Drummer columnist), Joe Leroux (marching guru), Gary Chaffe (legendary drummer) and many others throughout the years. He has taken the best techniques and teaching styles from his influences and molded them together to form what he considers to be the most effective and inspiring method available.

I teach drum set in nearly every style and hybrid imaginable, as well as percussion and drum circle facilitation.

Accomplishments include recording 7 albums with various groups, touring with national acts across the west coast, drumming for the Warner Brothers Television house band, and playing countless live shows (152 shows in 2007 alone).

I am a pianist, guitarist, singer, and composer and I have been studying music for thirteen years, playing professionally for seven years, and teaching for four years. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition from the University of Arizona and I am currently pursuing the Master of Music degree in Composition: Interdisciplinary Digital Media and Performance at Arizona State University. While attending the U of A I studied classical piano repertoire, accompanied singers, instrumentalists, and dancers, attended international music festivals, learned various computer programs used with music and art, and of course composed music. At ASU, I am expanding my art practice to modern dance improvisation and choreography, performance art, and interactive digital media. I hope to bring different art mediums together in pieces for live performance and installation.

I am a cum laude graduate of BYU, with a Bachelor's of Music in guitar performance and am currently attending ASU as a Master's student in guitar performance. My main style is classical, and due to the technical training I have had since I was very young, it has been very easy for me to learn and master other styles such as Rock, Jazz, Blues, Pop, Country, and other styles of guitar. I love music! To me, it truly is a universal language, and nothing else can capture and express emotion quite like it. Ever since I picked up a guitar 15 years ago, I've been on a quest to learn and speak the language of music. One discovery I have made along the way is that I love teaching it to others, too!

Over the past 10 years, I've been busy immersing myself in music. The excitement of performing live on stage, the pride of writing a song that touches someone, the reward of watching a student learn something new—these are the things that fuel my passion. My dream is that my students will one day be able to experience these things!

I've been teaching guitar lessons for over 5 years, and I just recently graduated from ASU with a B.S. in psychology. Also, I am co-founder, producer, and engineer at an independent recording studio in Mesa, AZ. I studied voice at Brigham Young University. My musical studies continued at a college in California. I later took private Masters classes from my former professor, Ray Arbizu. Mr.Arbizu had been a leading opera singer in Germany before teaching at B.Y.U.
