Learning music is a challenge that I face with pleasure, passion and persistence. While doing so, I’ve learned to face other life challenges as well. For me, music is a way of life.

Currently, I play regularly with three different groups. In doing so, I get to play blues, rock & roll, and jazz. At shows you may see me playing electric bass, upright bass, or keyboards depending on the night. During the week I teach lessons to a wide range of ages and abilities.

Playing music quickly became my passion when I started playing at 15 years old. The electric bass was my first instrument, but guitar, drums and keyboards promptly followed. During these early years, I was playing with anyone in my small town who knew how to play at a venue which allowed young musicians.

My vocal exploration began at age three singing solos at church, and I later adding ballet and piano lessons to my artistic studies. As a teenager, I performed with the concert choir and madrigal singers under the tutelage of Hal Wildung, a teacher who affected me so deeply with his love of classical choral music that it changed my life, although I wouldn’t realize it until much later. As a young artist, I wrote, sang and performed with numerous original rock, pop, funk & blues bands; simultaneously acting, singing, dancing or choreographing stage musicals. Early on in my career I was lucky enough to get a private session with Jeannette LoVetri who first introduced me to Alexander Technique exercises that I use to this day.

A love of music began in the third grade. I started on a silver metal clarinet and have not stopped playing. I am a musician, composer, arranger and performer. I hold a B.A. in music and have taught in the schools for 22 years. I bring extensive knowledge and humor to my teaching. I enjoy working with all age levels and pride myself on being intensely positive.

Born and raised in South Minneapolis, MN, Miguel began playing drums at age 11 while in grade school at the Ramsey International Fine Arts Center. He has been performing regularly at local venues and festivals including the Dakota Jazz Club, Artists’ Quarter, and the Twin Cities Jazz Festival with youth bands and with well known local musicians since the age of 14. Upon graduating from Minneapolis South High School, he moved to New York City where he studied at the Manhattan School of Music and played around the city. I have been teaching for over 8 years and my unique versatility as an educator has given me the experience I need to be successful. I am an Orff-Schulwerk trained teacher, whose philosophy is based on things children like to do: sing, chant rhymes, clap, dance, and keep a beat on anything near at hand in a non-competitive atmosphere where one of the rewards is the pleasure of making good music with others. I have an outstanding rapport with children in the classroom and in one-on-one instruction. I am also a leader and a performer whether I am conducting songs at the all-school assemblies, singing in the community choir, or playing rock music in a club. In addition to the many creative projects outside of work, I am an active board member of my local Orff-Schulwerk chapter which promotes a network of music educators.

Over the past decade, John has enjoyed great success gigging, recording, and teaching drums. John has logged over eight years of performance experience in the Twin Cities and Upper Midwest, playing with bands spanning a diverse range of musical genres, from rock/pop to jazz and latin. Hello! I'm Justin, a classically trained Baritone with an emphasis in operatic singing. I have earned my Bachelors degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point, where I have appeared in various operas, and performed many recitals. I am currently pursuing my Masters of Music degree at the University of Minnesota, which will be completed this coming May. In addition to a semi-regular recital schedule in my undergraduate work, I have played the roles of Papageno in The Magic Flute, Marcello in La Boheme, Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd, and Marco in Gianni Schicchi. A Midwesterner at heart, I've lived in Minneapolis for the past seven years, involving myself in the local music scene. I started out my musical life taking piano lessons at the age of nine. Realizing a passion for music, but desiring something less rigid, I switched to guitar lessons at the age of 15. Instantly falling in love with the instrument, I've been playing for the past 14 years. In addition to my love of guitar, I also pursued an education in classical voice, attending and receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Illinois Wesleyan University. My participation in the independent music scene in Minneapolis and my classical training while at IWU has developed a diverse and exciting style of music performance and instruction. My music students are introduced to basic music theory, notation, and technique that enables them to play fun, simple melodies after the first lesson, and fun simple arrangements after the first month.
