Cheryl C. Mount Tabor, NJ

About Cheryl

I have been a musician for over 25 years. I have a Bachelor of Music and have taught guitar for over 9 years. In addition to guitar, I'm a vocalist, composer and arranger as well as a music publisher. I actively perform as both a classical guitarist and singer-songwriter.

I love teaching guitar and find it so exciting to see kids (and grown-ups!) learn an instrument and be part of the magic of creating music!

The earliest age that I recommend for a child to start learning to read music is age 7. Learning an instrument teaches focus, develops self-direction and how to reach a goal, plus the added benefit of developing the brain for academic achievement. And, it's just plain FUN!!

Cheryl is an excellent teacher and I am so glad I started my guitar lessons with her. I have played guitar on my own for a few years but I felt stuck at my current level and wanted to expand my guitar skills. Cheryl is very patient and encouraging. The exercises she gives me are challenging but she teaches me everything I need to work on them and I am making so much progress. Cheryl is very knowledgeable about guitar and extremely qualified. I would strongly recommend her to any level guitar player!

Just recently retired, I decided to try guitar. Cheryl C. has been my instructor for the last 4 months. Cheryl is knowledgeable and instructs at a good pace. She is quick to recognize strengths (and weaknesses), and gives good feedback and instruction. Cheryl is very interactive in the sessions, and always keys on the accomplishments, while letting me know what needs to be done to get to the next level.

It is with great pleasure and with no reservations whatsoever, that I can recommend Luba as a piano teacher for both children and adults. Although her curricula vitae speaks for itself in terms of her qualifications and experience, it is the personal qualities of a teacher that are of the utmost importance in developing a student/teacher relationship that brings out the fullest potential and desire to learn of the student. Luba's warm and kind demeanor belies her exacting requirements of her students. As a pianist who has attended Luba’s student recitals, I am always impressed to see how well-prepared and confidently they perform. Even the beginners play with beautiful phrasing and musicality. One can tell they have studied with a teacher who has worked hard to impart a strong sense of organic expression that music, performed with care and understanding, can evoke. As a concert pianist, Luba understands well the difficulties, both physically and psychologically of performance and is most supportive of the goals of her students. She is also interesting and caring and uses her sense of humour to entice her students to keep working through the difficult times, and keep coming back for lessons.

Colleague and professional freelance accompanist.

"Mrs. Luba" has come to be one of the most positive role models in our daughter's life. Over the last two years, Luba has instilled in our daughter (now aged 8) a deep appreciation and love for music and an understanding of the importance of setting goals.

In addition to her obvious rich musical knowledge, Luba is enthusiastic, caring, warm and understands how to teach. She has worked with my daughter on troublesome topics and knows when and how to challenge her. She makes each and every lesson fun while creating a real sense of accomplishment. Rather than simply plow through songs, Luba also works with her on piano technique and music fundamentals that will hasten her development, particularly as she advances. Finally, Luba is always extremely accommodating and cognizant of our hectic schedule. Our daughter recently scored "Outstanding" in the 2014 Music Educators Association Annual Audition, thanks in no small measure to Luba.

We are absolutely thrilled to have found Luba for our daughter's piano instruction and hope to continue our long relationship together.

I started taking lessons with Luba when I was 7 years old, and stayed with her for over 10 years (until I left for college). Now, despite no longer taking piano lessons, I still find great enjoyment in playing piano, and I attribute my love and knowledge of music to Luba. Luba's piano lessons were truly invaluable. She believes in a holistic approach, and understands that it is important for a student to be able to tackle a piece both technically and emotionally. She patiently goes over music theory, delving into the whys and hows of composition, helping her students understand the piece technically. Her explanations and demonstrations on the techniques with which to play a piece were clear and informative, and with practice I found my technical skills improving substantially. However, unlike many other musicians I've met who have mastered technique but failed to apply emotion, Luba ensures that a student is also able to connect with the music. She encouraged me when I chose to learn pieces I liked, and guided me when I struggled to emotionally connect with certain composers. She also taught me the value of practicing (which many children dislike doing, myself included at the time), and gave advice on how to actually practice and improve. With Luba, I consistently received a grade of "Outstanding" (the highest grade level) at the Music Educators Association's annual audition, and placed in numerous piano competitions around the state. I went from barely having any knowledge of music and piano to being able to both learn and sight read complex pieces. It's so satisfying for your efforts to pay off and to finally reach a level where you can pick any piece and know that you have the skills to learn it and play it well. Without Luba, I would not have reached such a mastery of piano and I am extremely grateful for all of her help over the years. Luba is a fantastic piano teacher and any student would be lucky to take lessons with her!

About Rosemary

If you want to become an artist; if you want to sharpen your critical thinking skills, improve your multitasking, expand your mind's capacity for learning and be able to unleash the power of wordless self-expression... study the violin.

At the tender age of five, I started a life-long love affair with the violin. Growing up in Westfield, NJ, I began my studies at the NJ Workshop for the Arts, and have since come full circle, serving on the faculty there to this day. I have a rich tapestry of experiences that contribute to the teacher and performer I am today, and in my students, I hope to light the spark that leads to a lifetime of musical memories.

I graduated summa cum laude with a Music Performance degree from Montclair State University in 2006, and I've been teaching ...

Incredibly amiable, professional, and talented as a teacher.

As a senior in high school now graduating and transferring into college, I started my lessons with Dimitry in December last year and had to end this summer at the end of the music school's program. Even though my time learning the saxophone was short, Dimitry used my past musical experience to help guide me through the instrument. His lessons did not feel long in any sense of the word, and in fact some two-hour lessons I took to make up missed weeks blew by, as I was constantly engaged by his teachings. During my studies with him I found myself in the presence of a true musician, and this was only further driven home when I saw him play in the Hanover Wind Symphony at the Morristown Community Theater with Stanley Drucker. I would highly recommend Dimitry as an instructor for a student at any level.

After many years as a music educator, clarinetist, saxophonist playing with Army and concert bands, as well as dance bands, I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with Dimitri. Being retired , I made the decision to seriously play clarinet again. His skills, as a musician and teacher have helped me regain my passion for the instrument and ability to play at a high level. I would recommend him most highly.

Rebekah is a thorough and patient violin teacher. When my 7 year old, daughter asked to learn the violin, I was not sure if she had enough of a capacity to focus, which is necessary for playing the violin. Under Rebekah's instruction, she has flourished; she is playing scales, songs, and reading music. After each session, Rebekah reviews with me the homework she has assigned to my daughter. Thanks to Rebekah, my daughter is developing a real appreciation for music, while enjoying the learning process. I highly recommend Rebekah!
Monica G. Madison, NJ

About Monica

I'm a performing artist and music teacher. I received my Bachelors and Masters degree in music at Boston's New England Conservatory, where I was a member of the jazz, classical, and third-stream departments. I also spent 8 years in Berlin, Germany, sing opera and musical theater. I've always enjoyed working with kids; especially introducing them to music through piano, language, movement, role-playing, and singing. But I also thrive teaching adults; whether it be professional singers looking for some tips, or passionate hobby singers looking to impress their friends at the next karaoke party. Flute is my first instrument, so definitely get in touch with me if you want to take your playing to the next level!

Monica taught piano to my (very active) 7 yr old son. She is a wonderful teacher; my son enjoyed each lesson and learned a great deal. Monica even had him writing his own short compositions. Moreover, Monica engaged him on his own level and understood he wasn't always going to sit perfectly and be quiet - she was silly with him sometimes and made him laugh and have fun while he was learning.
She was extremely reliable and always on time for the lessons. In short, Monica is terrific and I highly recommend her.
