After years of teaching all levels, and many different styles of voice and piano lessons, I can tell you this-- I LOVE teaching! My students have ranged from 5 to 45, from classical piano, or jazz/ pop piano to pop/ rock/ jazz singing, and no matter what we always have a great time. Originating from Seattle, WA, I (married to a piano teacher) am a 20-something professional vocalist with a broad range of experience. Having professionally performed everything from opera to beat-boxing (it's true!), I can teach all styles. With a Bachelor of Music (Musical Theater) from Belmont University I am more than qualified to teach with a well supported foundation. As a professional singer in New York I know the importance of well supported talent, abounding confidence, and an excellent teacher.

As a true lover of music and arts, I encourage my students to overcome the vocal, physical, and mental boundaries that tend to crop up amongst performers. My confident and exciting approach to singing brings out the best in my students, which translates beautifully on stage.

Music has always been a big part of my life and I really enjoy giving the gift of music to other people. I began teaching guitar lessons during high school after a family friend asked me if I could show him a few things. From there I developed my technique as a teacher and my roster of students grew through word of mouth before I went off to college.

EDUCATION

I attended New York University in the fall of 2004, majoring in Music Composition at the Steinhardt School of Education. I studied privately with Dr. Joseph Church, who was the Music Director for the Lion King on Broadway, as well as The Who's Tommy. He was a true mentor and helped me hone my skills as a songwriter, lyricist and vocalist.

During my time at NYU I spent a year teaching group guitar lessons at the Edgies Teen Center in Lower Manhattan. In this low-income neighborhood it was really important to give my students an outlet to express themselves in a positive way by learning the importance of music....

Matt, 33 years old, has enjoyed working and teaching as a professional musician for at least 12 years. He began studying music and playing the saxophone at age 11. He currently lives and works in the New York City area after moving there from Philadelphia in early 2001 after graduating from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 1999 with a Bachelors in Music.

Throughout his musical career, Matt has performed and worked in a variety of capacities including as a composer and recording studio engineer. His main area of expertise is performing as a jazz saxophonist on alto, tenor, and soprano saxophones, and he regularly plays throughout New York City in restaurants and jazz clubs.

Hello! My name is Monica N. and I am a violin instructor currently living in New York City. I have been studying and performing for 14 years, 6 years under Richard Chang, Julliard graduate and former student of Dorothy DeLay and Hyo Rang. I’ve performed with countless ensembles, from string quartets and chamber ensembles to the Maryland State Orchestra and National Festival Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. I have also performed with smaller groups playing tango, flamenco, and swing jazz.
As a violin instructor, I absolutely love sharing my passion for this instrument with others and developing creative exercises to nurture good form and technique. I believe there is no one-size-fits-all method to learning, and that my job as a teacher is to discover what methods works best for the student and develop learning tools accordingly. I pride myself on putting creativity and expression on the same par as technical mastery, and enjoy encouraging students to see the value in both.

Yuichi H. was born in Tokyo, Japan. His musical career started at age 10 when he performed marimba in a music recital. He started playing drum set at age 14 and joined a wind ensemble, a few rock bands, and a jazz big band. With some of these groups, he performed at several live music venues in Tokyo. In 1991, he composed the music and performed drums and percussion in a production of Othello, at The Globe Tokyo Panasonic Theater.
In the fall of 1991, with a full scholarship, he attended Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA. He studied jazz drums mainly with Joe Hunt and Jon Hazilla, and orchestral percussion with Dean Anderson. Also, he took many classes in jazz composition and arranging with Gregg Hopkins and Jeff Friedman. He was the recipient of "The Cuccinello Percussion Award" and the "Berklee Percussion Department Achievement Award." Kenny W., Merit Scholarship student of Karen Dreyfus, graduated from the Manhattan School of Music with a Bachelors of Music in Viola Performance in 2006. Served as Principal Viola of the Manhattan School of Music Symphony, Kenny has also collaborated and played under the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Pierre Boulez, Kurt Masur, etc. Kenny W. has studied with members of the Juilliard String Quartet, American String Quartet, Amadeus Quartet, among others.

Violist, Kenny W., is active in collaborations involving experimental, pop, improvising, arranging, recording, with an eclectic sensibility. Performing at venues including Radio City Music Hall to Carnegie Hall, Kenny is not only very active in NYC's music scene and industry, but on television as well with appearances from shows such as David Letterman to 30 Rock. Collaborations/performances with varied groups/artists such as Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Phill Niblock, Julia Wolfe, Pierre Boulez, etc.

Sharon is a professional musician from the small town of Rehovot, Israel. She fell in love with music at the age of 10, when her father bought her her first drumset. At that time she was studying in Africa with a local, playing everything by ear and watching videos of her favorite drummer, Steve Gadd, to learn his magical paradiddle tricks. After the family uprooted to the United States, Sharon joined her high school Jazz Band, Orchestra, Marching Band, and Percussion Ensemble. It was only then, in her junior year of high school that she realized that she did not want to do anything else but music. In 2011, Sharon graduated Berklee College of Music with honors and is currently teaching, performing, composing, and... well, living life in Brooklyn NY.

I like to combine fundamental knowledge (such as music theory, ear training, improvisation, reading music, writing charts, and technique) with current styles of music like Pop, R&B, and Hip-Hop in addition to Jazz and Blues.

I do this with my career and enjoy teaching it to my students.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music in 2008 with a degree in Professional Music.

One of my strengths as a teacher and performer is my versatility.
I've played with groups ranging in styles from Rock, Hip Hop and Country to Avant-Garde Jazz and Latin music.

My name is Bob. Originally from New Hampshire, I'm a professional musician/teacher with a incredibly deep passion for what I do. I'm a graduate of the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. While attending school at Berklee I was able to meet many different people and learn about an array of musical styles. I also was able to travel to Japan for a tour with the incredible pianist Manami Morita. Currently I play with a number of musical acts in NYC including The Groove Shop, Leah Cooper and The Human Equivalent, Johnny Arco, and the world-music live improv group The High Breed.
