Hi! My name is Danielle and I have positions open in my saxophone studio! I currently sing and play saxophone with several groups in the Portland area, teach my studio kids, and work part-time at my desk job. :) I studied saxophone performance and music education (K-12) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (Kansas City Conservatory of Music) for 6 years. I've taught a private music studio since I was in high school in a variety of settings, including: my home studio, in music stores, and for UMKC. I placed 2nd, 4th, & then 1st at the Oregon State Solo & Ensemble Competition my last three years in high school and received a substantial music and academic scholarship from UMKC (HS Valedictorian). I've been a music camp counselor, both here in Oregon (at the coast) and abroad with an international high school jazz band. My musical life started when I was 4 when my dad started teaching me piano. I played woodwind instruments from 5th grade through college. I started voice lessons when I was 16 (and wanted to get into the top high school choir). And then, at age 60, I asked myself what I most wanted to be excellent at, what would carry me through the rest of my life. I chose piano and found a top-notch teacher who took me back to square one and changed my musical life. Then--a few years later, I found a top-notch voice teacher who taught me to breathe, taught me to speak . . . and changed my life once more.

I have toured the country, opened up for large acts(Art Alexakis of Everclear, Ron Sexsmith), I currently play in professional symphonies(Columbia and Vancouver Symphony), write music for documentaries and commercials, and am finishing my degree in Percussion Performance at PSU. In addition to this experience, I have studied with drummers Gary Hobbs(Stan Kenton), and Sean Wagner (Cherry Poppin' Daddies"). I have been teaching privately for about 15 years now, and have students that have gone on to do amazing things in music!! I majored in Music and Classical Guitar Performance – studies included Music Theory, Performance, Composition, Sight Singing, Computers and Music, and Music of the Western World. I have been teaching guitar and theory since 2002, but as a volunteer minister, I have been teaching most my life. I have a love for people and different cultures so I have been learning Romanian for the past 6yr in order to reach out to the Romanian population in Portland. I truly like taking a personal interest in students, and seeing them progress. I strive to share my passion for music. I believe that if you make a creative lesson plan that excites their imagination you will be astounded by what they are capable of learning.

I am a very proficient instructor for topics in math, science, and test preparation. I have experience teaching other Dartmouth students in diverse science and math subjects, as well as teaching standard and advanced-level high school students.


I enjoy teaching and particularly enjoy finding ways to present specific concepts in clear, memorable terms. I particularly excel in subjects where rote memorization is not central, and instead mastery of interrelated concepts is key. I believe math and science offer opportunities for every student to accomplish meaningful successes and gain new understandings of themselves and the natural world, so I push every student to see learning as a way to better themselves.

I have been teaching since 1998 and am an active musician, composer, and instructor in the Portland-Metro area since 2006. Performing and studying music throughout my years has given me volumes of knowledge that I now share with students young and old.

My early work with Rudimental Snare Techniques in marching bands built a tremendous foundation by which I have adapted to learn other percussive instruments with great effect. I use this background to give my students the same edge I had when working on new music and studying new techniques.

Through college I worked mainly with the Keyboard Instruments (Marimba, Xylophone and Vibraphone) and the Timpani. I consider these instruments to be on the Orchestral side of the percussion world and I am blessed to perform several times a year with Portland orchestral ensembles. I have taken piano lessons for the past 17 years and have been teaching for the last 5. While working on my Bachelor of Arts in Music at Willamette University, I decided to give piano lessons during the summer and found it to be an exciting way to connect with new people of all ages, give them a skill that they can use for the rest of their life, and grow as a pianist myself. Now that I have graduated, I am focusing on teaching more full time, and could not be more thrilled about it. Now giving Skype lessons!

I have my math degrees from Wellesley College and Florida State University, taught classes as a grad student at FSU, and have done tutoring through the local community college as well as on an individual basis. Depending on how the student feels about math, I either try to challenge them to expand their abilities, or give them confidence in their ability to tackle math problems. The beauty of a one-on-one tutor is that lessons can be adapted to what the student needs.

I tutor mathematics from elementary arithmetic through pre-calculus, and any age group from 6 to 106. I hold two M.S. degrees in engineering fields and a B.S. in physics, which gives me an extensive mathematical background, and I have experience tutoring in several settings: technical school, middle school, elementary school multiplication table drills, traditional school settings and home schooling environments.

I have been tutoring people in reading skills off and on from the time I was in 6th grade assisting first graders with the basics. An avid reader myself, I have an instinct for the kinds of books that will motivate reluctant readers to learn how to read and enjoy the experience.

I am a professional Math Interventionist. I studied at two different Universities. My undergrad was completed at the University Of Oregon (Go Ducks!) and my Masters in Teaching was completed here in Portland at Concordia University. I have worked with a diverse population of students and skills over the course of 8 years. I am versed in the Math State Standards as well as the upcoming Common Core Standards for Oregon. I have worn many hats as a teacher from special ed, public ed, tutor, coach and mentor.


Through my years of experience with remedial math I have learned how to mold the education to the student. I use direct instruction which includes: an introduction to a concept, guiding them through the steps of a problem, and support in completing the steps until the student gains confidence to complete the skill on their own. I graduated from Willamette University in 2012 with a Bachelor's of Art in Theatre. There, I was a Theatre History Tutor from 2010-2012. My prime subject was Directing, which allowed me to create a fantastic story out of a few actors and some lines. Outside of the stage, I excelled in Symbolic Logic and Contemporary Mathematics. In high school, I was a math and physics tutor from 2006-2008.

Students take music lessons for a variety of reasons - professional aspirations, fun and larks, a desire to sing or read music better, a need to improve speaking voice or confidence, a hope to play that piano that's been sitting in the house for years - and these each come with a different level of commitment. I want all my students to enjoy their lessons and their practice time while gaining an understanding of the fundamentals of music and the basics of their chosen instrument: voice, piano, or flute. If you hear a song on the radio you want to learn, note it and bring it in to your next lesson. We'll talk about it and make a plan for learning about the song, and then learning to play the song.
