Hi, I'm Tom. My style of teaching is centered around the students wants and needs. I base my lessons around music that the student already listens to and enjoys (as well as introducing obscure music the student might not otherwise know about). I have been teaching for 7 years, completed 7 years of music study at Boston College and have studied under accomplished performers and composers. My philosophy boils down to one notion, keep it fun for the student.

Let's see, first and foremost I'm a music lover of the highest order. Whether it's jazz, rock, indie, classical, hip-hop or country, if it's good music, I love it. I take great pride in the fact that when I go out for a run and put my ipod on shuffle, I could end up listening to just about anything; from the Beatles to the Arcade Fire, Miles Davis, Igor Stravinsky, Stephen Sondheim, Phish, Kanye West or Johny Cash.

I grew up obsessively listening to everything i could get my hands on, and began playing guitar at the age of 11. That was cut short, though, when the next year I almost lost my middle finger on my left hand in an ice skating incident. It took 5 years for me to regain the strength and motion, during which time I was forced to give up guitar playing altogether. I never lost my passion for music, though, and in my heart i never stopped dreaming about what it would be like to be a professional musician. I am a guitarist from Mansfield, MA who grew up in a completely non-musical household, and, for one reason or another, always had an affinity for music. After failing monumentally at piano lessons in the second grade, it took several years before I made the decision to pick up a guitar for the first time. As it turned out, learning the instrument was the best possible thing that could have happened to me, and it became an important asset in almost every activity in which I participated. My hard work ultimately paid off, and by the time I graduated high school, it was clear to me that I had made the right choice in seeking to pursue music as a career.
Now in my final semester at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Ma, I have had countless opportunities to be active in all areas of my trade. I started playing the drums in 5th grade in 1994. I fell in love with it right away. I started to take lesson by 8th grade and got my first drum set for graduation. I was hooked. From there I did everything and anything drumming. I joined the Middletown High School Marching and Concert Bands and played with a few groups on the side. In 2002 I went to college at the University of New Hampshire and marched with the Wildcat Marching Band. Drumming became my life and I continued to drum after college, the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife and Drum Corps, Middlesex County Fife and Drum Corps and the Rhode Island Highlanders Pipe Band. My name is Jarrod V. I am a graduate of the University of Rhode Island Music Program. I currently teach music in Jamestown, RI. I also manage and play saxophone in a six-piece funk/reggae band that tours the north-east. We were recently recognized as "Band Of The Year" in Southern New England. I have performed on stage with members of the Grateful Deal and the Allman Brothers. I have also opened for acts such as P-Funk, Buddy Guy, the Violent Femmes, Johnny Winter and the Spin Doctors.

Teaching is something I'm truly passionate about! I've been teaching privately for over 10 years and most of the students I've had were complete newbies, although I have taught students of much more advanced skill levels. I started playing music in the fourth grade. My first instrument was the
cello. In fifth grade I changed my instrument to the violin and found that it was definately something I wanted to persue. A year later I started
on the piano, and unlike the violin, I found that it was easier to learn it on my own. Because of that, my knowledge on the piano has been mostly self taught. I have been playing both instruments going on 16 years, and even though I did
play other instruments, nothing took center stage like the
piano and violin.

Although I have never played in the Boston Philharmonic or London

I hold a Masters Degree in Music from George Mason University. Since relocating to New England, I have been on stage at Theatre by the Sea, Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston, and The Granite Theatre. I can also be seen on the ABC TV show "Body of Proof".

A native of the Washington DC Metropolitan area, I have performed with the Washington Opera Company, at the Kennedy Center, and Historic Maryland's Adventure Theatre. New York City credits include performances off-Broadway for the York Theatre Company, CAP21, and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

1. Taking on any new task requires time and discipline. Mistakes are a part of the learning process. The biggest challenges reap the greatest rewards.

2. The student and teacher are a team! The teacher and student will work together to learn together. As the student is learning new skills and techniques, the teacher is learning all about the student and their specialized needs.

Jean has been teaching piano for 6 years.

I have taught piano and voice most of my adult life. Early on I learned the need to adapt my teaching style to the uniqueness of each student, especially those whose perceptions differ widely from the general populace. I love what I do, helping each student discover and nurture their abilities, no matter what age the student may be.

The Holistic Piano method is especially effective with my Autism-spectrum students, a segment of the population I find particularly rewarding to teach.
