I have been studying music for eight years now. Having come to music rather later in life than most, I find that I am more empathetic to the perspective of the beginning student than many teachers. I spent the Summer of 2009 teaching music fundamentals to groups of severely physically and mentally disabled children of all ages. Since then I’ve completed my Bachelors degree in Music, and have taught privately to several students.
To me, music is above all about transformation; yes, beautiful sound transforms our experience of the environment, but learning an instrument transforms the very way a student learns. Learning to play an instrument is an experience of training one’s nervous system to gradually act and respond in new ways, and that kind of persistent, focused, training is applicable to anything.
I also believe that playing music should be fun and cathartic.

I am a professional musician, guitarist, performer and music instructor with more than 14 years of experience teaching Guitar, Bass and Piano, in New York City, New Jersey and Westchester County. I have been teaching piano for almost 40 years. I have a NY state music teachers license, a masters in music therapy from NYU, and a bachelors in Music Education and AFFA certification.
I try to keep the student self-motivated by using music that the student likes, as well as covering the basics. I use props which can be internalized by the student and gradually removed. For example, using stick-on letter names for the notes for a beginner and then removing them one at a time when the student feels ready.
I am friendly and very easy going; I'm not a disciplinarian. If a student doesn't practice for some reason, we practice together at the next lesson. If a student doesn't want to practice at all, I can be very creative in motivating them. I don't believe in parents forcing their children to practice, because this tends to turn the child off. Hello there , I'm a New York native and an NYU graduate with a degree in Music. I've played in venues ranging from Lincoln Center to the Espoo Jazz Festival in Finland, sharing the stage with Ray Charles and the Yellowjackets.

As a producer and writer, I've recorded major artists including a very young Lady Gaga. I've also composed and recorded music for TV shows including "America's Most Wanted" and the animated series "Kenny the Shark" on NBC.

As an instructor, I've taught for the past 15 years in the Greater New York area and always pride myself on being able to expose students to many different styles ranging from jazz to rock, in order to create well rounded and complete musicians.

Jason received his Bachelor of Music from UMKC Music Conservatory and went on to receive his Masters Degree in Music Performance at the Rudi E Scheidt School of Music where he studied with Lily Afshar. Jason has won several competitions including the "Brownsville Guitar Ensemble Competition" and has performed at various festivals including the Piccolo Spoleto festival in Charleston, South Carolina. He currently received an Artist Diploma from SUNY Purchase with Frederic Hand. Jason is passionate about teaching guitar to all ages.
