Sarah B. Los Angeles, CA

Our first few lessons will focus on breath support, embouchure, and proper posture. Then I will introduce the fingerings and we will work on tone production. I will also teach basic music theory.

About Sarah

As a professional singer I have sung with opera companies and orchestras throughout the country. I am currently the alto section leader of the professional choir at St James Episcopal Church and I also sing with the Pacific Chorale. I have been a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, City Music Cleveland Orchestra, and National Chorale at Avery Fisher Hall.
I continue to refine my vocal technique with my voice teacher, Joann Zajac, one of the most respected teachers today. This keeps my vocal technique fresh so I can pass on the knowledge to my students.

Voice is my primary instrument, but I am also an accomplished violinist and flutist. I began playing violin at the age of 3 and studied privately for 18 years. At the age of 9 I picked up the flute and quickly advanced and won ...

Julia B. Pacific Palisades, CA

Teaching brings joy to my life. I love instructing flute students of all ages and experience levels, and find that they often teach me just as much as I teach them. While I want my students to excel, above all I hope they come away from lessons with a greater appreciation and understanding of the incredible power of music.

About Julia

A little bit about me:
Admired for her rich tone and fluid technique throughout the instruments range, flutist Julia B. is an active performer and teacher in the Los Angeles area. As a soloist she has performed with the San Diego Symphony, San Diego Chamber Orchestra, and the UCLA Symphony. She has recently performed with the Le Grange Symphony, Midland Symphony, and LA Dream Orchestra as well as chamber ensembles such as the LA Grand Ensemble and Spirati Woodwind Quintet. She completed her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) degree in flute performance at the University of California at Los Angeles, where she studied with Sheridon Stokes. For her Master of Music, Ms. B. studied with Christina Jennings at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and attended Rice University for her Bachelors ...

Concert, Chamber, and Orchestra repertoire

About Joseph

Joseph R. has 5 years of experience teaching students elementary, middle school-aged children and adults on to how to play keyboard, guitar, flute and saxophone while sharing his learning experience with them as a self-taught saxophone and flute player and his more conventional education on piano and guitar.

Joe started developing his musical talent through piano lessons at the age of 7. After only a year of formal study, he began to experiment with other instruments such as the bamboo flute, the guitar and the drums. When he moved to the United States at the age of 13, he was introduced to the school’s band where he chose to hone his skills with the flute. Since then, he has been exposed to classical and symphonic repertoire. During high school, he joined the marching band ...

I am happy with Joseph teaching. He knows his stuff. I like the fact that he plays a lot of different instruments and has electronics to boot.

Heather B. Sherman Oaks, CA

About Heather

Now accepting new students for in-home lessons. I have over 12 years experience teaching individual lessons. My areas of study were Elementary Education, Music Performance, and Theatre. It is my belief that each student learns at their own pace and in their own way. My goal as a teacher is to find the best program for each student so that they can enjoy learning their instrument or craft and come away from the experience with a better understanding of it, in general, and a feeling of accomplishment for themselves. Some students want to become professional performers and others simply want to learn for their own enjoyment. Both of those are admirable goals.

What I teach:

Flute -- beginning to late intermediate (fourth grade and higher, unless they already have some other ...

Great teacher

Heather is an excellent piano teacher. My son is learning a lot. She doesn't just push him along from song to song in the book, she makes sure he knows how to read and play each tune before moving on. A+

Heather is teriffic!

Heather has been giving my grandson (6 years old) piano lessons for several months and has been a terrific teacher. She is patient, knowledgable, experienced and gears her teaching to the student's apptitude. Cameron has learned so much thus far, and looks forward to his lessons each week. I highly recommend Heather for lessons, particularly young, new learners (and I'm sure she's equally terrific with adults as well!)
Yuh-Jiun W. Diamond Bar, CA

About Yuh-Jiun

I am a music teacher and musician in the Los Angeles area. I was born in Taipei, Taiwan. I started my music education at the age of three; it started with clapping, rolling around on the floor, and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade. I was fascinated by the magic that music possesses; as Rimsky-Korsakov unfold a tale of an enchanted land, with camel-riding merchants, bazaar, and princesses, without uttering a single word. I went on to learn a few instruments: xylophone, three different kinds of recorders, and then all this eventually led to flute.

I started studying flute at the age of 8, and it has been a delightful journey. In high school, I have participated in marching band, symphonic band, wind ensemble, and symphonic orchestra. I was also part of two prestigious local youth ...
