A little about me. I am 25 years of age, slowly, but surely, attending college and absolutely love the guitar and music itself. I'm one of the those people who thoroughly believe in that everyone should know how to play an instrument. Playing music exercises the mind in ways only instrumental-play can do. I find music to be one of the best ways in which to express oneself and is a form of art the entire world contributes. These are the reasons I am on this website. My passion for music goes hand-in-hand with teaching. I love introducing beginners into the guitar world. I've worked with many students at this point, so I understand some students catch on a bit quicker than others. I look forward to both types and I'll always have a smile on my face. So bring yours and let's create some music together!
Piano, Violin, Music Theory, Phonics, Reading
I have led a colorful life encompassing a wide range of life experiences, playing electric and acoustic violin or fiddle in many professional venues before and after arriving in New York City in the mid-80's. I retired as a member of New York City's Local 802, AFL-CIO, Associated Musicians of Greater New York, to move to the borscht belt of the NY countryside with my husband in late 1990. We had a horse farm; that enterprise became a profession of its own during those years. However, upon arriving in Florida in 2004, I returned to playing music, thanks to meeting many wonderful musicians here in SW Florida. My original musical training as child and teen was classical music on piano and violin. My appreciation and love of various styles has broadened out over the years, including a love for Blues, Jazz, Swing and 40's standards, opera, Klezmer and some Country Western (swing!) and Bluegrass here in Florida. In 2005, I assembled a group of professional musicians who had been playing various styles of music including jazz, bluegrass and
classical and created a Klezmer-based group to play for events on the Southwest coast of Florida. KlezMania On The Gulf began performing as a group shortly thereafter and continues to entertain lovers of Klezmer, swing jazz and good American standards.
Singing, Broadway Singing, Music Performance, Music Theory, Opera Voice, Speaking Voice
I love teaching and I love music!
I am a Tenor, and I am a Voice teacher.
I received My Bachelors degree from Wheaton College in Wheaton IL, with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance
I am currently going into my final year to obtain my Masters Degree from Westminster Choir College in Princeton NJ Where I am pursuing a Masters in Music in Vocal Pedagogy and Performance.
I have been singing since I was a very young (about 8) and have been studying Voice for over 10 years.
I am able to teach a Variety of different music, from Broadway/Jazz/ and Pop to French Melodie/ German Lied/ Italian song/ and even Opera.
I am very good at deciphering areas that may need improvement in a singer's sound (example jaw tension that needs releasing, or too much nasality in the sound) and am good at providing helpful ways of making that sound better! Let me teach you how to sing healthily, with good technique and good stage presence! I'll make sure that you can sing for years to come!
I believe that our learning environment should be a fun one! If you're serious and want to train for the next big competition, don't worry, we'll get you there and have fun doing it! I think that students should enjoy what they're doing, and not think of the lessons as something that they will immediately be perfect at. DON'T BE AFRAID TO MAKE MISTAKES!! Music has the ability to speak to people, it can make people laugh, cry, relax, etc. Your job is to convey the meaning of the music! Let me help you get there!
I have sung in a large number of groups, and have help to lay the foundation for others. I've been involved most recently in the Westminster Choir College Concert Choir, The Masterworks Choir, and The Masterworks Camerata. I participated in the New Jersey All State Choir for two years. During College I was the Tenor Section Leader of the Men's Glee club. I also helped to create the Fake Group (a Vocal Jazz group) and The Thundertones (a small Men's A capella group). I've performed in a number of School Opera's, and have sung and studied many others. In addition to my work with opera, I have also been involved in a number of Musicals, (My Fair Lady, Anything Goes, The Music Man).
I'm a very well rounded musician and teacher, and I absolutely love what I do! I look forward to working with you and making you a great musician!
Piano, Singing, Music Performance, Music Theory, Opera Voice
Of course you want an experienced, passionate, patient and compassionate teacher! Teaching is not my job; it is my calling and I am very good at it.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education (1987, Ball State University) and a Master of Music degree in Voice (1994, University of South Florida). I've taught in public schools in Sarasota. Currently I am adjunct staff for State College of Florida (formerly Manatee Community College) teaching private voice and piano lessons and music appreciation classes.
My music studio has been serving music students in the Sarasota area since 1991. I offer private voice, piano and music theory lessons for students of all ages. Currently my studio includes students from 5 to 74 years of age! And in my 30 years of teaching all of my students have shown improvement in skills and enjoyment.
I myself began singing in church when I was three years old and began piano lessons at age five. I began teaching piano lessons when I was sixteen.
Music and teaching are my passions. Both of my parents were teachers. Beginning in my middle school years, my parents invited me to their classrooms to teach music lessons. When I was in high school sometimes the choir director would ask me to lead rehearsals and I did the same in college.
My experience has brought me literally hundreds of students. I sometimes think I have seen and heard it all! Some who come for singing lessons can't match pitch at first. Some who come for piano lessons can't keep their finger numbers straight or remember what key is what note or what printed note is what letter. Sometimes it's months before the "light bulbs" go on. I'm patient and have worked with those situations with many students, so I have many ways to approach the problems and fix them. I probably have at least ten ways to say the same thing until something clicks with the student. And, most importantly, I learn from my students. They often come up with unique ways of saying things that hadn't occurred to me before.
Lessons are for students of all abilities. Some students come with nothing but the desire to sing or play better just for their own pleasure, some come with prior training, some are preparing for an audition and some even wish to make a career in music. Some students have come seeking help with their speaking voice for business presentations. I welcome all! My goal is to help my students meet and exceed their goals and have more life through the joy of music! To help them gain greater appreciation of music and increase their confidence both in music and in life.
Guitar, Music Theory
I'm Rick and I have been playing guitar for several decades. I specialize in all acoustic styles, including artists like James Taylor, Paul Simon and other "folk rockers" country, and rock. Whether you just want to play some of your favorites, or learn to accompany yourself as you sing, I'm your guy. Strumming, finger-picking and just enough music theory to get you to understand what you're playing...and grow!
Do you need to dig deeper into Music Theory? I'm a Magna Cum Laude graduate with a Masters Degree in Theory, so if you need some beginning or advanced level tutoring in this subject, give me a call.
