As a younger brother at the age of five, I began studying the piano because my older sister did. After my foundation in music strengthened I fell in love with the trumpet. At first, each note took time to develop and I enjoyed the challenge. The trumpet allowed me to travel all over the Southeast later in life and even to China with a 1940's Radio Show. I enjoyed many top-level bands the kindled my love and passion for good music. I want to share that kindling with my students in a nurturing and guiding situation, just like my teachers gave me.
I used to go to lessons and become so motivated and inspired that I thought I could change the world. I always knew that I would want to give back exactly that. As my performance opportunities grew into venues like Churchill Grounds, The Eyedrum, The Rialto, and The Variety Playhouse in Atlanta and Radio City Music Hall and Flushing Town Hall in New York, my fire for wanting to develop my teaching did also. I was always thinking back to what my old teachers gave me, inspiration. I then understood that inspiration is the key to success in life.

I have proudly been teaching music privately for 10 years. I have worked with hundreds of children molding their young musical talents. I enjoy being able to see them grow from year to year which is one of the reasons I chose private as opposed to public schools. It's a thrill to have a student with me from a little kid in elementary school all the way until graduation and, know that I was there to help them not only through their musical endeavors but, also through life.
I have experience in all types of music and, I also specialize in NYSSMA, SCMEA, college, and pre-college prep. In college I studied jazz and classical music and also participated in musical productions in and out of school. I played for many years in my church choir as a flautist and clarinetist. I have also been assistant engineer on recordings. I am also very knowledgeable in rock and pop music, and I find it a lot of fun sharing that with my students! My students participate in yearly recitals which I organize, have been in parades, and have even had experience doing recording sessions at young ages. I have taught hundreds of students of all ages, and I'm confident that no matter what you are looking to learn I will be able to help you reach your goals!

I am a graduate of Montclair State University with a Bachelors degree in music education and a minor in sociology. I have also played a variety of other instruments including the trumpet, trombone and clarinet.
I have performed with the NJ Conservatory in Beethoven’s 3rd Symphony and 9th Symphony. I have also conducted intermediate, concert and beginner bands and have given both group instrumental lessons and one-on-one private lessons. These group and individual lessons include clarinet, French Horn, trumpet, flute, trombone, saxophone, violin and percussion. I am most diverse in brass instruments and piano. I have also worked with students with special needs and students who do not have English as their first language
While still in high school, I performed at Carnegie Hall with the New Jersey Youth Orchestra, the New Jersey all shore band, the pit band for the high school musical productions, and received the Band Director’s award in my senior year of high school. I have also performed in several other orchestras, bands and chamber groups at all musical levels including professional. I accompanied my high school's choir on piano as well.
I have been on the Dean’s list at Montclair State University for six semesters and all four semesters at Brookdale Community College and received the NJ STARS scholarship and graduated Montclair State University and Brookdale Community College with honors.
Guitar, Singing, Music Theory, Opera Voice, Trumpet
This is how I describe anyone's journey on any given instrument: Finding your own Voice. Your voice on your instrument is unique! Here is how my journey started...
I always loved to sing and to imitate the singers I heard since I was a child. I was singing Frank Sinatra songs before I new what the words meant (my Mom loved Frank). I started to play trumpet in middle school and continued through high school. In high school my brother gave me my first guitar lesson and I would eventually play in a rock band with him for ten years after my first attempt at college.
I was in a studio for the first time when I was about 22 and I was laying down some original vocal tracks over my friend's songs. I was hearing my voice recorded for the first time! My friend looked at me and said, "You are trying to sound like someone else. Just try to sound like you." These words started me on a lifelong journey to find my own voice. Since then, I have realized whatever instrument you choose it is essential to find your own voice on that instrument. My journey continues with my voice, guitar and trumpet. These 'voices' end up being similar through practice because your unique personality comes through the music you create. The kind of person you are provides the foundation for the music you create. What I hope to accomplish with each student is simply to help them on their way to finding their own voice!
Being the front man (vocalist) for a rock band for ten years and playing trumpet and guitar in many bands in Philadelphia made me realize that I needed to go to music school to really hone my skills in a nurturing environment. I auditioned for The University of the Arts in Philadelphia for vocal performance and I got in! I focused on classical voice and had a concentration in jazz vocals. I graduated and stayed there for another year to receive my Masters of Music in Jazz Studies (2004). In 2005 I moved to New York and got accepted in the New York City Teaching Fellows Program and entered Brooklyn College for Mathematics Education. I then got my music certification and ended up teaching concert band for four years at a middle school in Flatbush, Brooklyn. This past year I taught a guitar class to over twenty students. Little Kids Rock provided the guitars and some of the teaching resources.
I am 43 years old and I have had many great musical experiences. Here are some of my personal highlights:
- touring the east coast with my band, Scribbler;
- singing the lead role in Menotti's opera, 'The Old Maid and the Thief' (2002);
- being accepted in the Philadelphia Opera Chorus;
- performing Mendelssohn's 2nd Symphony with the Philadelphia Singers and the Philadelphia Orchestra at Carnegie Hall;
- conducting commencement ceremony for my middle school;
- teaching vocal workshops at the Wow cafe and theater in Manhattan;
- playing four cities with Aleister X last May!
I believe that a teacher who is also a performing musician will bring more vitality to their teaching practice. I am currently playing guitar and singing in two bands, one of which is currently in the studio recording their first release. I have recently performed as an accompanist on guitar at the Wow Cafe and Theater for their show, Abundance. I am also performing in a benefit series organized by the Trevor Project as a vocalist and guitarist. Thank you for taking the time to read a little of my history.
Improv Acting, Method Acting, Piano, Shakespearean Acting, Singing, Theater Acting, Acting, Broadway Singing, Speaking Voice, Trumpet, French Horn
My life revolves around music in all of its forms. I have studied piano since the age of 6 while singing ever since I knew how to make sound. Throughout my lifetime, I have been taught by some of the most influential teachers, and it is my goal to become one in your lifetime.
I began participating in theater at an early age. Once In high school, I had my first job as a Drama Teacher at Saltworks Young Actors Studio where I taught Improvisation, Monologues and Musical Theater to students ages 6 thru 16.
I went to Point Park University where I received a BA in Musical Theater in 2006. Throughout College, I was also teaching voice and piano lessons.
As an actor, I have enjoyed many successes. In 2007, I joined the NY Public Theater’s three night, 40th anniversary concert of HAIR at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. The following summer, I was a member of the cast in a full mounted production in their 2008 Shakespeare in the Park season. Shortly after the production transferred to Broadway, the cast performed at the 2009 Tony Awards and took home the Tony for Best Revival.
During the run of Hair, I was entered into the Broadway Beauty Pageant, where male cast members from different Broadway shows compete to win the title of "Mr. Broadway". After competing in Talent and Interview; I was crowned Mr. Broadway 2009.
In 2010, I journeyed across the Atlantic with the production to perform HAIR in London’s West End. It was such a joy to have the influence of UK culture and experience the best of their Music and Theater in my time living in London.
Since moving back to America, I began teaching full time and have been a first hand witness to all of my students growing and flourishing throughout their process. It makes me so proud of them!!
I believe music has the power to be the most fun thing in the world, while at the same time, the most challenging thing. No matter what age, it's never to early or late to open your heart and mind to its fullest potential.
