I decided to try to learn classical guitar in my 5th decade of life. Although I had some limited musical background, I was quite apprehensive about my ability to learn a string instrument for the first time at my age. I feel very lucky to have found David. He has made me feel that I can do this! He is a great teacher and has a way of making every lesson meaningful. I come away from every lesson enthused about practicing what he just showed me. My schedule is quite hectic and he has been extremely flexible about missed lessons or changes. I highly recommend David for any age or experience level. I love my guitar lessons!

I have been taking lessons for almost a year now. I am a beginner senior citizen. David obviously tailors lessons to the individual. We work on basics, yet he also lets me select songs I want to learn and pushes me into areas that challenge my abilities, which keeps it fun. I can highly recommend David as a teacher.

David is a very good teacher. I am a "mature adult," and a college teacher so I know something about teaching. I have taken guitar lessons in the past. My past experiences have always been either a teacher that teaches out of the book, or, in one case, wanted to throw lots of theory at me (which was interesting), but precious little guitar technique. He is open to my preferences and utilizing actual works of classical music to develop technique, along with the traditional exercises (such as scales). He explains things well, both musically and in terms of technique. I would recommend him to any person of any age and experience, and music taste. Although his strength is classical, he's well versed in all musical forms -- rock, jazz, contemporary pop, etc.

About Arielle-Khrystiana

I began my musical studies at the age of six, starting off in my elementary school orchestra and chorus. A passion and talent for the violin led me to placing in competitions and festivals, and performing professionally in quartets and at wedding ceremonies later in high school. I began performing in rock 'n' roll bands in 2008, and began a teaching career in 2009. My students and students' parents have praised me for my musicianship, patience, and compassion. I am also an operatic soprano and musical theater musician, thus making me a diverse and well-rounded instructor. I teach in the traditional style, combining some Suzuki elements. For beginning voice lessons, we will focus on vocalizes, theory, and appropriate repertoire. I take a different approach to every student, realizing that

Wonderful results, and a lot of fun!

If you're looking for someone to start the violin with, look no further than Arielle D. She can start you from the ground up, even if touché never read or played music a day in your life. She will try different approaches if the standard book stuff isn't working. She's also great with scheduling, very easygoing with make-up lessons. She also made me feel very comfortable and relaxed during my lessons.

Antonella has been teaching piano to my two daughters (ages 8 and 12) for a number of years now. They have progressed terrifically during that time and really enjoy learning from her. She has a gentle approach but also keeps the girls focused and accountable which is important. They have had multiple opportunities to perform in recitals and competitions that are always enjoyable as well. Antonella is a excellent teacher that I would highly recommend.

My 7 year old daughter started taking piano lessons this year with Antonella. I am amazed that within such a short period of time she has learned so much. She has progressed from 'Mary had a little Lamb' to really beautiful more complex pieces in what seems like no time.
Antonella is a really excellent teacher, very patient and supportive, yet constantly pushing (gently) to make the student better. She is an incredible pianist herself and really encourages Aoife not just to learn and play the notes, but to really use good movement and techniques which make such a difference to the sound of the piece.
Antonella is professional, committed, highly skilled and very passionate about what she does. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her as an amazing piano teacher.

Trumpet · In studio
I played the trumpet from fourth grade through college but I didn't have much in the way of formal individual lessons during that time. After college I didn't touch the trumpet for over 20 years, when I decided to pick it up again as a ‘comeback’ player. While playing in a couple of local concert bands I decided I really wanted to be a better trumpet player, and take lessons from an experienced teacher as a way to reach my goal. Rick assessed my abilities and came up with a personalized lesson program to help me improve all aspects of my playing. We went ‘back to the basics’ in some areas and built on my existing abilities in others. I’m very pleased with the results and I enjoyed my instruction time with Rick. I would highly recommend Rick to any trumpet player at any level of experience.

Rick H. is a phenomenal musician, educator, and person. I studied with Rick for four years, and have remained in contact with him for nearly two decades. I learned a great deal from Rick, particularly in the areas of harmony, voice leading, jazz history, trumpet pedagogy and intonation. So many of my current musical concepts go back to my time as Rick's student. Rick has a very systematic, step by step approach to learning that is tailored to the individual student. I work throughout the Midwest as a professional trumpet player, and am extremely glad that I received my foundational training with Rick. I highly recommend Rick Holland to anybody wishing to study the art of trumpet playing or improvisation. The knowledge that you will receive from this man will last you a lifetime!

First and foremost, Rick is a nice guy with a patient demeanor. I can't imagine finding a more welcoming, easy going teacher who also knows how to push his students to excel when they need it. He takes care to explain concepts to his students in a detailed, timely fashion that is never confusing, rushed or complicated. There are no uncertainties in learning with Rick. He lays out concrete harmonic concepts and rhythmic ideas that help to demystify what are often enigmatic, and hard to grasp ideas such as improvisation and musical style. If you take these concepts to heart and practice them in a conscientious manner, you will certainly achieve your musical goals. I studied with Rick all through college and for several years after graduating. Initially, I was not a great trumpet technician, nor did I have any jazz theory under my belt when I first started studying with him. Nonetheless, Rick helped facilitate my growth both as a trumpet player and as a jazz musician. I firmly believe that it is because of Rick's guidance (a template for how to learn and practice music) that I am still playing today and continue to grow as a musician.
