About Me

Sharing the joy of music has been my passion since childhood. I began studying piano at the age of 4 and have been performing since the age of 6. After graduating from the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto, I began teaching. I continued teaching, performing and accompanying while completing a Bachelor of Music from University of Toronto and a Masters of Music from Texas A&M, Commerce.

My experience and training have given me the opportunities to receive numerous awards in solo and duo piano competitions. Some performances include solo and duo piano, chamber music and symphony orchestras, choirs and with vocalists and instrumentalists.

Being classically trained and a proficient sight reader, this has enabled me to play a variety of styles of music and accompany vocalists and instrumentalists and be able to play and teach from a lead sheet.
My other experiences include being an organist, musical director and choirmaster.

Renata has taught piano privately in her studios in Canada and TX for over 20 yrs before moving to Washington recently.

She recorded 2 solo piano CDs.

*** Lesson Details ***
Whether you're a beginner, intermediate or advanced student, my goal is for everyone to come out of each lesson with confidence that you have learned something or are on your way of accomplishing what you want to work on.
During the lessons, I emphasize the basics of note reading, technic, learning songs/pieces, theory and good practice habits. Depending on the age and level, a variety of fun activities, ear training, transposing, and playing songs of students' choice are incorporated into the lessons. I try to encourage the students' strengths and also focus on the things the students need to practice, depending on their level. Each student is unique and as I get to know the students, I am able to use my flexibility and musical training to develop ways to teach them.
I encourage my students to participate in recitals, contests and other performance projects (making a tape for example).
My goal in teaching students, is for them to learn in a positive atmosphere, for me to be able to share my enjoyment of music, and hopefully, for them to also enjoy playing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
home studio---main floor room, piano(kawai upright), parents can sit in

About Me

Harp
--
After five years of begging my parents, I started playing the harp when I was 11. I started competing at 14, performing gigs at 16, and teaching at 17. I consider myself lucky because I found my passion early. I loved it from the beginning. But I also believe it doesn't matter when you find it: start from wherever you are and embrace it from there.

Also at 17, I played with a local city symphony €” my first symphony experience! By the time I was entering college, I was drawn to Celtic music, a soothing, folky counterpoint to classical. I do both!

Piano
--
I began my piano studies at age 9. I love what piano does for ear training, for visualizing theory, and for all around musicianship! The piano is versatile and fundamental. Bach and Kabalevsky are my favorites for piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe that persistent creativity is the most important skill I bring as a teacher. If one explanation, process, or method doesn't work for my student, I will create another.

I work to help students find and keep access to their internal motivation to play whatever it is and however it is they want to play.

Students get to set their own goals, and I get to help them reach them. If performance level play is what my student wants, I'll move with them toward that. If they want to play only five pieces for personal fulfillment, enjoyment, or even healing, that is what we move toward. I work with students to help them generally stick to whatever they set for themselves. If they commit to themselves to practice every day, that's what I expect; if they commit to themselves practice in feast or famine waves, that's what I expect. Together we find the cadence that works for the student.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in my home in a room dedicated to studio teaching; music stands, benches/stools, 3 harps, keyboard

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a harp for rent; otherwise, I expect the student to provide the instrument and the books.

*** Specialties ***
- Folk and classical harp (both pedal harp and lever harp), also some jazz harp (pedal harp only)
- Classical and modern traditional piano, folk and pop keyboard
- Classical violin

About Me

Hello, my name is Tali. I've been teaching a variety of academic-related subjects since 2010. Early on, my love of learning propelled me to become actively involved in many tutoring, teaching, and mentoring opportunities. I wanted to take my own excitement and passion for school and share that with other people, who I recognized often saw school as a “boring, waste of day.” As a freshman in high school, I began tutoring at an After-School Tutoring Program through Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd. Finding my experience rewarding, I have continued as a volunteer tutor at the Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd throughout all four years of high school. Throughout my tutoring experience, I have learned the power of kindness, patience, and consistency when conveying information.

As someone who is still a student, I am immersed almost daily in the subjects that I tutor and can offer the best, most-up-to-date instruction. What's more, I am young, energetic, and flexible with my time.

Since then, I have worked with numerous students in elementary, middle, high school, and college in both group settings and one-on-one. I aim to motivate students by giving students a solid grasp on core concepts and creating engaging activities. I place a strong emphasis on developing study skills while the student learns the academic subject (Thinking along the lines of the old Chinese proverb: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.")

Academic Lessons:
These vary greatly by student and can be customized to a students needs. I can help students understand homework or I can focus on teaching a particular concept.

SAT Curriculum:
During my junior year in high school, I designed an SAT curriculum to raise my first score. In doing so, I raised my score 200 points from a solid 1980 to 2180. Since then, I have taught an intensive SAT prep class to multiple students and achieved similar score-increasing results.
