Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago’s Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.
A double graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States.
Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto.
Having also taken graduate-level coursework in educational psychology, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Chicago, Farobag offers tutelage in various areas of elementary and secondary education as well as in SAT, ACT and GRE test preparation for the mathematics sector.

I have an unquenchable passion to learn about and create music. I grew up in a small fishing village in Nova Scotia, Canada, with very little concert music around me. After hearing a digital piano play a Schubert Impromptu, I devoted my spare time to piano practice until I could play that piece. Since then, I have never stopped learning about and writing music. Sharing the joy of music with students and walking with them on a journey of learning is my greatest joy.

I have eight years teaching experience. Of those seven, five of them have been in music stores wherein I taught students of all ages, musical interests and skill levels. My students have gone on to form rock bands of their own, compete in singer/songwriter contests and pick up other musical instruments all because of the musical interest/passion I have helped develop.
I am very involved in the local music scene. I have written, produced, engineered and played on many recordings ranging in genre from folk to metal and classical to jazz. My band, Oceanborn, will be releasing our debut album in two weeks (10/1/2013) wherein I wrote, produced, engineered and tracked guitar. I have a modest, but very high quality studio setup and a lot of versatile gear to help me get the job done.
Please be sure to check out my blog "SCALES and CHORDS and STRINGS, OH MY!!" it is a one-stop place for getting FREE guitar insight and pointers.

Helping students master concepts that they will apply to classroom learning is my passion. Working with me, your child will develop the "I CAN" attitude which they can apply to all areas of life. Whether they are 5 or 15 years old, you will see them become more confident and have a new approach to learning. I hope to help your learner reach the stars!
