About Me

My expansive breadth of interests has led me through years of experience in the arts and natural sciences. I'm a voice instructor, math tutor, and biology teacher. Now, I'm pursuing a career in opera and vocal performance.

I have extensively studied vocal performance and opera for many years and continue to add to my own technique. I have been in many operas and musical theater productions. I am currently performing in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolored Dreamcoat at the Booth Tarkington Theatre. I was a finalist in the MasterWorks Festival concerto competition. I have studied other vocal genres, such as jazz and pop. I have administered vocal lessons to every voice type at all different levels. I use the appoggio technique of breathing and believe all singing should be produced in a way that does not damage the vocal folds.

I have a bachelors degree in biology with a minor in art. After graduating college, I was a full-time high school biology teacher, volleyball coach, and director of the school musical. As a high school teacher, I learned first hand the kind of pressure and expectations that are placed on students in order for them to succeed. In college, I was the head student researcher on a two-year lab project. I took several upper level science courses including: biochemistry, calculus, organic chemistry, calculus based physics, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology. I studied marine biology in the Virgin Islands and am CPR certified.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice lessons with me are fun and effective. You can expect to hear improved technique form day one, eventually reaching your long term goals. I teach an open throat technique called appoggio. It is the technique opera singers use, but can be applied to any music style. This technique allows the singer to sing with their entire voice using a relaxed larynx. I begin every lesson aligning the students voice through various vocal warm ups and exercises. We then work together to pick repertoire that will suit the singer'€™s voice and they will enjoy singing. During a lesson we will also cover performance presentation, acting, diction, rhythm, musicality, style, and interpretation.

During tutoring you can expect a personalized plan based on your goals and aspirations. Since every student is different you can be assured we will come up with a plan that is designed just for you. I am a laid back tutor but will be sure to get the most out of you after our time together. Most students see at least a one letter grade improvement. My main goal for every tutoring session is student learning and comprehension.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, recording equipment, large collection of sheet music, subscription to IPA source (foreign language translations and pronunciations), several math and science textbooks

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in helping students find their true singing voice.

About Me

I am a graduate of Kansas State University and I am currently attending dental school at Midwestern University in Downers Grove. I have experience tutoring biology at the college level, and worked for two years as a teaching assistant. I love spending my free time learning everything I can about science, politics, and even appropriate grammar.

I have seven years of experience teaching piano to students ranging from 4 to 54 years of age. I knew when I was three that I wanted to play piano, and I love teaching others so that they can experience the same joy that I feel when I sit down to play. I started playing organ at the age of 14, and was playing for my church congregation by 16. In addition to my own recitals and competitions, I have played for a number of church and school choirs, vocal and instrumental soloists, weddings, funerals, and so on. I studied piano and organ at Kansas State University while completing a degree in biology prior to entering dental school. I currently enjoy playing for the children at church and accompanying my beautiful wife who plays flute.

I started learning Spanish while living as a child in Panama. I also studied Spanish throughout grade school. I became fluent while living in Peru for two years during my college years. I often work with Spanish-speaking patients as part of my dental education.

About Me

~ I am a Millennium Academy graduate who breaks down all of the complexities that are found throughout math and science. I have also taught many middle-school children math and science overseas and participated in several volunteer mentoring programs throughout my community.
I personally love geometry, because it is one of the easiest, but yet most challenging to students. I am patient and understanding, because I have worked with a diversity of people over the span of 16 countries throughout the world, as well as contributing to an 'A' that my doctoral student earned in her statistics assignment. I am majoring in mechanical engineering, so naturally, I maintain an exemplary study ethic that inspires my students to achieve more.
All in all, I bring results. I know how to relate to my students, by incorporating some of the things that they like (sports, hobbies, music, etc...) into their most challenging courses in order for them to eventually foster a passion for them. I make a conscious effort to work at each student's own paste, essentially building up on their weak points and refining their strong ones. I make sure I decompose enigmatic topics into components the can be more easily gestated by my students, effectively increasing their grades and giving them self-confidence and optimism for their future of academic pursuit. I guarantee commitment, punctuality, and a passion for training my students to be the best.
I am also freshman in college who loves sharing his knowledge with others. I was always the kid in class who was always trying to make all of the rest understand. In my junior year, I tutored Seniors math for their ACT test. I scored a 30 myself. Their scores improved by huge margins in a fortnight due to their devotion to my tutoring methods. Although I am young, I am also well learned. I have been to over 16 countries in the world, including France, the UK and even Djibouti in the horn of Africa. As a result of these extended expeditions, I can fluently speak French and can partially speak Spanish. I am well versed in math and in the natural sciences (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) as well, and provide tutoring services in those fields. I have completed AP Calculus in my senior year, and I have completed Chemistry II, Physics II and Biology II(I also tutor in those fields, as well as French) during my voyages. I have also been to winner of many STEM-related competitions, by demonstrating exemplary leadership qualities and brainstorming up blue-sky ideas. I am a Mental-math prodigy and a great tutor, and I am the paragon of patience and understanding. Watch as you astound yourself by rapidly taking the reins in your previously 'toughest' courses. ~
As I mentioned above, I have traveled to many places in the world. Between those places I've met a plethora of people who fostered vast disparities in personality, opinion, socio-political viewpoints and even language. Nevertheless, they all shared one common similarity: they all had potential. Many of the great thinkers in our textbooks were not born with the abilities that we so vividly depict them with. Many of them had innate talents and potentials that were honed by individuals. These 'Individuals' unveiled the hidden talents of these prestigious polymaths, which paved the way to their memorial legacies. In its most fundamental definition, these 'individuals' were tutors. Like a hammer and anvil to steel, they molded these seemingly innocuous characters to be the Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton and George Washington Carver, we all know so well. They sat on the shoulders of Giants per se. And I intend to elevate my students to those shoulders.

About Me

I am an Illinois certified teacher in grades K-9 with ample classroom experience and expertise in elementary math and reading intervention. I have several tools and resources from various curricula to work with and would love to help your child in any elementary or middle school subject area. For the past three years, I have been working as a classroom teacher in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade teaching students with a variety of needs. I am also fluent in Spanish and can teach Spanish to students of any age.
I do not aim to teach "tricks" for getting the right answer. Rather, I aim to wholly ingrain the skills, strategies, and overall thinking needed to fully understand how and why we can come to certain answers. My goal is not to help you or your child to merely get a good grade on the next quiz (though I can certainly help with that!) but to help build a foundation that allows him or her to find success on his own in future units of study.
