Hello prospective students!!!

My objective as a teacher is to impart what I've learned over the past 14 years as a professional drummer to students of all ages. All I require is that you have the desire to learn how to play drums!!! I focus on Technique, Theory, Improvisation, Style and most importantly Groove.
Major Accomplishments:
As an Educator: I have taught as a substitute for numerous music schools through out NJ, most notably at the Jazz Institute of New Jersey under Rodam Schwartz where I taught Jazz Drum Set, Piano and Brazilian Percussion. I have also conducted clinics in the states and in South Africa. I am currently teaching Jazz Drum Set and Snare Technique at Carthage University in Kenosha WI.

I am a recent college graduate from Carthage College in Kenosha, WI with a degree in Music Education. I have been taking vocal lessons for 8 years and been providing vocal instruction and aiding vocal teachers for 6 years now. I am a soprano and can teach both broadway style and operatic voice.

My performance credits include: Dido and Aeneas (First Witch), Little Women (Aunt March), Seussical the Musical (Wickersham), and The Marriage of Figaro (Marcellina).

My awards include: 1st Place Singsational Competition (Spring Grove, IL), 1st Place Lake County Fair Talent Competition (advanced to IL State Fair Competition), 1st place Gurnee Idol 2008, and 2nd Place Waukegan Idol 2007.

I am a classical pianist who is passionate about teaching and sharing music with others. I received a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. I am a well-rounded musician, having extensive experience in solo performance, accompaniment, chamber music, as well as prior experience in violin, all of which contribute to my knowledge of music and ability to teach.

I focus a lot on technique while teaching, gradually incorporating musicality and creativity as a student progresses. I am very attentive to details, adjusting lessons to a student's specific needs. Although I am classically trained, I like to expose students to other genres of music, letting students choose songs they want to play in addition to songs I assign. I want to make music enjoyable and challenging at the same time.

I am a graduate of Trinity International University where I received the rarely-awarded Jaqueline Bell Memorial Prize for outstanding music performance. Since finishing school in 2011 I have freelanced across the Northern Suburbs of Chicago, working with musicians from the Lake Forest Symphony, the Grant Park Symphony, the Chicago Bass Ensemble, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

I’ve been teaching professionally to all ages and levels for over 10 years throughout the Chicagoland area. I have been playing for about 19 years. Music is my passion. I even own and run an all ages music venue. Teaching is my biggest love and I love seeing students learn! There isn’t a style I will not teach. All music to me is fascinating:)

I grew up in Palatine, IL and started piano when I was six years old. I earned my bachelor’s in music education at Illinois State University, graduating in 2008. At ISU, I accompanied 25 different instrumentalists and vocalists for their lessons, performances, and exams. I played in the jazz band and I played clarinet in the concert band and in the marching band, the Big Red Marching Machine. I also took private voice lessons and was a member of the Women’s Choir.
After graduating, I taught elementary music for three years. My first year of teaching was at St. Joseph Grade School, CCSD 169, in St. Joseph, IL. I taught kindergarten, first, third, and fourth grades, including an adaptive music class, a class catered to students with special needs. My name is Alex. I have a B.A. in Music Composition with a minor in music theory from Roosevelt University's CCPA. I have privately studied guitar for 10+ years and have studied piano with Glenna Sprague and Sevgi Giles. I am also highly competent in music history as well as electroacoustic music composition. I am very familiar with programs such as Pro Tools and Max/MSP. Aside from western music, I have been studying and performing Javanese Gamelan for over 4 years and have had the opportunity to study from Gamelan masters in Java, Indonesia such as Mas Midiyanto, Mas Joko Sutrisno, and Mas Darsono. I have also performed at various places such as Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park, Chicago Cultural Center, and the Chicago Club. I have been commissioned by groups such as Friends of the Gamelan and Con Brio.

I have been playing guitar for 28 years, starting with Rock/Blues before studying both Classical and Jazz guitar in college. I received my Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1995. I am currently a guitar teacher in the NW Chicago suburbs and in Chicago currently with 35 students, teaching all ages, all levels and all styles. I have been teaching guitar and music off and on for the past 18+ years but in 2007 I decided to devote myself to teaching full time (yes, teaching guitar is my primary job!)...the best decision I have ever made!

Paul has been teaching music in the public school system since 1997. He has a bachelor and master's degree in music education from VanderCook College of Music. While at VanderCook Paul studied all woodwind, brass, percussion, and string instruments, as well as music theory, conducting, and rehearsal techniques.

Along with being a music teacher, Paul also composes and records out of his home studio. He has played bass and guitar in various Chicago bands including, Reckless Maggie, The One, Chicago Sound Machine, and Windy City.

I've been playing drums as much as I can, for as long as I can! I started playing the drums when I was 10 years old and haven't stopped since. In high-school, I was in just about every ensemble and group my school had to offer. My senior year I was playing all the top ensembles; I was playing (and touring Europe) with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra; and I also auditioned as the top player in the state, earning myself a spot as 1st Chair Percussion for the All-State Honors Orchestra. Basically I was the biggest band geek you'll ever meet!

After high school, I attended Boston University on a full ride for a degree in percussion performance. There I got to study with great performers, some with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, some with the New York Philharmonic, some with the San Francisco Symphony, some with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. I have performed professionally on stage and in the studio for over 20 years. I studied music with a double major in guitar and bass guitar. I also play flute and keyboards. I began my musical training at 10 years old learning how to play guitar. I have a deep love for music and began to teach what I know to others and found that teaching music is very rewarding. I like to help others discover the joy that comes from learning and playing a musical instrument.

I am great with young students just starting out and make sure that learning their instrument is a fun experience. With teenagers and adults, I not only teach guitar methods, but also the basic principles required to "jam" with other musicians. I also work with bands and ensembles teaching basic performance techniques required to perform live.

My studies in piano date back to when I turned 9 years old and have been playing ever since. I have been classically trained but also studied an assortment of other styles such as Jazz and Blues. While In college I attained a degree in Music Education but also studied music composition in the hopes of becoming a more accomplished song writer. During my studies in college I have gained sufficient knowledge in understanding music theory and music analysis. This is a benefit I have found extremely helpful in teaching, especially with students who are learning advanced literature.
