Not only is Jimi a gifted musician, but he is a passionate teacher. It is evident how much he enjoys teaching through his exuberance and encouragement. We feel very fortunate to have found him. Our daughter is making huge strides in learning the saxophone, thanks to his positive reinforcement and love of the instrument.

A great experience with a skilled instructor

Above all else, Jimi knows what he's doing. His advice is exactly what I needed to improve me use of my voice. His knowledge of the human voice and various instructional methods is both broad and deep, and he draws on it effectively to give effective personalized advice.

Jimi is an endless wellspring of information and advice, and sometimes I want to do more singing and less listening. But when I do get to sing, I always find that the listening has paid off -- I'm improving fast, and it's because of his good teaching.

Tegan S. Somerville, MA

Must supply own clarinet -- I would be willing to help find a student instrument. Can teach all ages.

Beginner clarinetists will learn to read music, and begin by learning the parts of the instrument, and the fundamentals of breathing and posture, with simple songs soon to follow.

Intermediate clarinetists will expand their repertoire and technique, and begin work on important orchestral excerpts and solos, with an eye towards competition. Bass clarinet may be explored at this point.

Advanced clarinetists will continue to polish technique and expanding their repertoire, with a focus towards audition preparation and competition. Bass clarinet, A clarinet, C clarinet, or any other member of the clarinet family may be explored further at this time.

About Tegan

I have taught private instruction and group instruction in such varied subjects as Music Theory/Ear Training, Woodwinds, and Crochet. I am completing a B.A. of Music at University of Massachusetts - Boston, with an expected graduation of August, 2014. As a working musician, I currently perform oboe with the Brockton Symphony Orchestra (Dir. James Orent), Calliope Ensemble (Dir. Julia O'Toole), and the University of Massachusetts - Boston Chamber Orchestra (Dir. Dr. Jon C. Mitchell). I have most recently studied under Dr. Emilian Badea in both Oboe and Accordion, with Bulent Guneralp in Piano and Voice, and with Dr. David Patterson for Music Theory, Ear Training, Arrangement and Composition. Music has been an important part of my life for over 20 years.

Tegan is a lovely young woman with great skills in teaching children music theory and piano for beginners. Two of our children are currently taking lessons and both are thrilled with Tegan. She is patient, kind, a master at her art and very entertaining while creating a constructive, fun atmosphere for children.

Tegan is very prompt - and her focus on teaching is evident from the moment she sits at the piano. This is our first experience with TakeLessons but definitely not our last thanks to Tegan. She is an asset and a joy to be around. We will definitely continue our class' with her - she is the perfect choice for our family.

I've only had two 2 hour sewing lessons so far with Tegan (I plan on taking more) and I am already showing a great deal of improvement and have a lot more confidence in my sewing. Tegan is super helpful and knowledgeable. She shows a deep understanding of sewing because she knows multiple different ways and techniques on how to approach a task and explains why, how, and what the outcome will be. She is patient and makes you feel very comfortable and relaxed which is sometimes hard to do when you're learning something new. I would totally recommend her to anyone new to sewing! Overall my experience has been great :)

Tiffany Y. Boston, MA

I have been teaching successfully since January of 2013. I am happy to teach students of all levels, as I have experience working with middle school to high school level students! Fundamentals are extremely important to me, as I believe that in music making, if the fundamentals aren't there, then the student can only be so successful up to a certain point. My goal for everyone I teach, is to set them up so that they have the necessary tools of knowledge to be successful in their future endeavors.

About Tiffany

Tiffany Ye has been teaching private lessons since 2013 and is currently available to teach lessons at Boston University's College of Fine Arts. She has helped students make region band, area auditions, make good results at solo and ensemble contests, and make sure that they have a solid grasp on foundations.

A native of Texas, Tiffany received her training at Stephen F. Austin State University in 2014 where she received her undergraduate degree in Music Education. She is currently working on her master's degree in Clarinet Performance at Boston University.

So many teachers make you take lessons from scratch to see how much you have learned and go over the material again with you to fix errors. It is so boring for me!!! I hate that. I'm sure it works for some people. I like to play my hardest song and then go from there instead! He did no for met. He caught on right away, exactly where I needed help. I didn't waste hours and hours of tedious lessons that I would quit rather than have to do that same material again! Also, he breaks things down that are very complicated, to easy to understand chunks and bits to make it easy.
