About Me

I hold a Music and English degree from Hamline University, but that doesn't make me a good teacher. I've played professionally for over 25 years, have taught English as a Second Language, Hockey and Audio Engineering, taught people age 5 to 75, and have taught private music lessons full time in Linden Hills for the past 8 years €“ but this doesn't make me a good teacher. What makes me a good teacher is that I have an infectious love of music and a passionate commitment to helping people. I have owned my own home in Linden Hills for 7 years and I love living here and being a part of the community. You can find me taking advantage of so much that Lake Harriet has to offer: swimming, biking, walking, rollerblading, and of course taking in all the great concerts at the Bandshell.

*** Lesson Details ***
From the first lesson, my students learn, they grow, they feel good about themselves - and they get results. Whether adult, teenager or child, I find out what music inspires and I use this music to give access to learning regardless of level. Whether a Disney song, the Doors, or Debussy, I fuel your lesson with what lights you up. I am positive, attentive and also discerning. Quickly, I find out what learning style works best for my student; by ear, visually, or intellectually, and I spend the time to customize their materials and lesson plans to an extraordinary degree. If a student thrives with me being highly energized, or with me being more mellow, or if they have special needs, I'€™m able to adapt to what works best for my student. It is a joy and privilege to be a teacher, but especially a music teacher!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My favorite thing about my studio is that it's QUIET! Perhaps you know what it's like to have a lesson next to another lesson going on, or because of noise, you just can't hear yourself or concentrate. Another favorite thing is that it's right in the business district of Linden Hills. I have instruments, amps, laptop, stereo, mics...anything we need.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I often allow new students to use a loaner guitar of mine until they feel comfortable committing to purchasing their own. I help them find the right guitar for themselves by searching for used gear and accompanying them to the store. I offer music stands, guitar tuners until they purchase their own. I provide all audio files and written materials.

*** Specialties ***
I teach ALL styles. I most often teach students wanting to play and sing songs from pop, show tunes, alternative, country, rock, singer/songwriter and jazz standards. I specialize in songwriting and often my students create their own compositions regardless of level. Improvisation is also a key part of my teaching.

Dear Singer,

I have been singing for a long time – almost two decades – I have toured internationally, sung background, done studio work, recorded CDs … you name it I've sung it. I have also worked with a variety of bands, gospel choirs and singing ensembles in workshops and studio sessions.

I have taught privately for many years in a number of cities, New York, London and currently in the Twin Cities. When working with my students, I am a gentle taskmaster committed to helping you sing your best. My lessons focus on helping singer/songwriters build strong, healthy voices.

Let me teach you how to:

• Stop losing your voice
• Increase your usable vocal range
• Eliminate vocal breaks or gaps
• Feel confident and prepared
• Learn how to make your songs work for you

I sing and teach in contemporary styles.

I look forward to singing with you.

Blessings,
Michele

Drum, Music Performance, Music Recording, Percussion

About Me

I am a 28 year old drummer with 19 years of experience spanning all genre's and styles of music. Countless hours of stage performance with bands. A love, drive and passion for music and drumming you won't find in any other instructor! Multiple studio recordings both behind the mixing board and behind the drum set. 8 years of teaching experience, realizing the importance of setting a unique curriculum for each student tailored to fit each individual's goals and interests. I have been involved in bands ever since middle school, starting with rock, and moving on to perform in country bands, hip-hop performances, indie rock bands, and progressive rock bands. A strong knowledge of jazz techniques and music theory as well as the ability to read drum sheet music make me a perfect instructor for any student.
I have had many beginner and intermediate level student's and have become proficient in determining what skills each individual student needs to work on as well as helping students progress in their interests, keeping the lessons fun and the student motivated. I can easily transcribe any song as well! So any song you might want to learn, even if there is no sheet music, is totally doable. I love working in odd time signatures and I prefer fancy hi-hat work over heavy double-bass drum use. Progressive / Indie rock is my favorite genre of music to play, but I have tons of fun playing hip-hop, punk, metal, I dabble in jazz, Latin rhythms, and pretty much anything else. I'm always excited to play drums, and I pass this excitement on in my teachings.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons and curriculum's are built around a students experience level, age, and goals. Students will learn the fundamentals of drumming, as well as the ability to add flair and pizazz to their playing. Within the first 3 months, a beginning level student will have the ability to play basic beats found in many styles of music, as well as feeling comfortable playing to a metronome and keeping time. Lessons will include routines to be practiced by the student on their own time, as well as fun, exciting techniques to keep students interested and motivated to continue playing.
Each Lesson will hold its own highlights depending on the student. I believe getting to know the student and their goals for their drumming is one of the most important aspects of teaching lessons. Understanding whether the student is looking to drum as a hobby and for fun will change the lesson style dramatically compared to a student looking to make a living off drumming. The types of routines, styles and techniques taught should fit into helping the student reach their desired destination.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the basement, full band rehearsal set up with 2 drum kits, one for the student, one for the teacher.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect the student to have a drum set and drum sticks. I can provide a drum set for lessons but it is important for the student to have a drum set or practice pad to practice.

*** Specialties ***
I have touched on almost every genre of music. I am currently studying Latin jazz, I specialize in progressive rock.
