About Cort

Hello, My name is Cort and I love to teach music. I am currently taking on more students for the following instruments: Guitar, Drums, Bass. I have successfully instructed students from age 5 - 65 and gain tremendous satisfaction from helping my students achieve their goals of learning an instrument and/or progressing to a greater ability on their instrument. I teach beginning and intermediate up to the advanced level and all aspects of music (reading, writing, theory, chords, scales, modes, composition, and most styles of music). I have been playing and performing for over 25 years. I have an AA degree with a concentration in music education. I have studied privately with legendary jazz/fusion drummer, composer, and actor Alphonse Mouzon (drum set) and with guitar genius Julian Coryell ...

"Cort is reliable and gives you your money's worth."

"I took bi-monthly guitar lessons from Cort for nearly 3 years. Cort is enthusiastic about music and is very knowledgeable. Though originally a drummer, he is well versed in the guitar as a teacher and player. He pays close attention to detail and really cares about his students. He has an easy going demeanor and is open to your input about what you are most interested in learning. He also has a good idea of what will help you be a complete and well-rounded player. Cort is reliable and gives you your money's worth."

Professional and patient with kids!

Mr. Richard, as we call him, has been fantastic with my 7 year old son. His early recommendations maximized my son's guitar interaction and the visible (audible?) progress being made actively encourages practice at home.

Mr. Richard is able to give simplified homework that my son can understand. As opposed to "practice for 20 minutes per day", Mr. Richard was able to identify what works with my son's personality and established practice criteria that was much more effective.

Ken P. Anaheim, CA

One of the most fundamental of all instruments. What you learn here can be transferred to many other instruments, including guitar and piano.

About Ken

I've been playing music my whole life, but it was as a high school student when I was asked to teach the school's guitar class that I became a teacher. Since that time I've gone on to earn several awards, played in many different types of projects, and earned a Master's degree. You might have heard my music before too if you've ever listened to a podcast, TV commercials, Indy films, or played any video games. My most successful student thus far however, would have to be Jacob Tilley from the rock band Young the Giant.

Not everybody wants to be a rock star though, and there are many aspects to the world of music. During the course of my musical adventure I've played with orchestras, been in rock, bluegrass, reggae, pop and blues bands, classical ...

Carl’s gift as a teacher is both his patience and resourcefulness. He has a nurturing style of teaching and clearly cares about the progress of each of his students. Because of his years of performing as a professional, he draws on this knowledge and expertise. He brings a broad range of approaches to conveying fundamentals, technique and building on foundation principles of music. Carl taught my high school age son and I saw that he is willing to explore what works best for each of his students, who come with different learning styles and levels.

Carl is a highly dedicated, skilled Professional and a pleasure to work with. I have been involved in lessons with Carl for over 2 and a half years. I played drums in highschool but never truly learned the basics and Carl has given me the steps from basics to more advanced instruction and helped me succeed. I admire his patience and skills and work ethic.

I have been taking hand drum lessons (bongos and congas) from Carl for about 15 months. I find lessons with him enjoyable and relaxing, and I have learned a lot about technique and style from Carl. He is patient and gears his teaching to the interests and needs of his students. Regardless of age or gender, a student will feel at ease and confident with Carl as his/her drum instructor........Mel Roth, Irvine, CA.

Max G. Santa Ana, CA

My number one skill. I've played for over a decade and am still learning new tricks to impart upon the student. Drums are certainly rewarding, but require a solid foundation and a lot of patience. I can more than adequately articulate a multitude of skills to a student.

Having performed in many groups of different genres, I can express a different perspective than a typical instructor.

About Max

Hello!!

Drums - Spanish - Swimming

I'm Max, a 27-year-old business professional with a love for learning and teaching. Right now I'm saving my way up to opening a music venue; this is my dream!

I'm from the Costa Mesa/Newport Beach area, and I have my own rehearsal studio in Santa Ana for music instruction.

For Spanish lessons, I'm happy to meet at local cafes, libraries or drive to the home. I have had extensive study in high school, college and in both Spain and Mexico, so I'm adequately prepared to tutor in this field.

Swimming lessons can only be accommodated at the pool of the client. I was a lifeguard for the City of Costa Mesa during college and played water polo for Newport Harbor High School.

Max is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. This translates directly into his ability to teach music. Music is a very difficult thing to teach, as it is very frustrating for a new musician to get the hang of an instrument. I'm sure it can be just as frustrating for the teacher, but you would never even get the slightest hint of that from Max. His patience with me, as well as his amazing knowledge of the drums and music, made for an experience that was very conducive to learning quickly.

He has very interesting and effective ways of getting one to pick up what he is trying to get across. If it's not clicking, he keeps trying to explain it a different way. He breaks down the basics, and shows you how to build on them one by one.

I have had brief stints with quite a few music teachers, and I can say without a doubt that Max is the most proficient in the art of teaching, and making you feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You may never reach it, but apparently that's what makes a good musician. One day, though, I know the light will be much closer, and much brighter.

Oh yeah, and he's kick ass on the drums...

Thanks again for EVERYTHING, Max!!!!
