I'm a professional composer, teacher, and pianist - and I like to keep active doing all three throughout my community. My piano and composition lessons are very in-depth, but also very flexible. Because of my thorough knowledge and experience with music, I can teach all ages, skill levels, and an array of important subjects - including piano, ear-training, music theory, improvisation, composition, creativity, music history, ethnomusicology, and percussion. I cater to each student's interests as well as incorporate many of these subjects into my piano lessons so that every student gains a thorough understanding of music and becomes a well-rounded musician.

I started taking Suzuki piano lessons when I was 5 and quickly fell in love with the piano. Since the Suzuki method incorporates such thorough ear-training and the ability to play without sheet music, I quickly began to explore my creative side and was improvising on the piano by age 7. Pianist, Rian D., holds a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from Washington State University where he graduated at the top of his class. During his time at WSU he was a recipient of the prestigious Presser Scholarship, which is awarded to college students based on academic merit and performance experience. He also placed in numerous local and regional piano and chamber music competitions, including finishing as a finalist in the Washington-Idaho Symphony Young Artist Competition and performing as a soloist with the orchestra.

He currently performs as an accompanist and teaches piano in the Seattle area privately and at a local music and dance academy. As a member of the Seattle Music Teachers Association he stays in touch with and is active in Seattle's vibrant music community.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, saxophonist Kareem K is a performer, composer, and educator, who is in high demand for his talents both on and off the stage.

Growing up in the northwest with its vibrant music scene allowed Kareem the opportunity to study with, listen to and perform with world class jazz artists residing in the area. Artists such as Tracy Knoop, Jay Thomas, Don Lanphere, Bill Ramsay, Hadley Caliman, Julian Priester and many others had a large impact on Kareem early in his musical education. This direction and guidance continues to inspire and lead Kareem as he continues his lifelong passion undertaking a career as a professional musician.

As an experienced soloist, orchestral and lead player, I have had the time to develop a deep physical connection to my instruments. This connection, gained after years of practice and performance, informs my approach to instruction. My goal is to impart technique and knowledge that assists the student to break through physical barriers and achieve maximum musical expression, no matter what the style.

One unique thing about me is that I've have experience in MANY different musical situations ranging from performance and education to arranging, band leading, touring, recording, and writing. I began as a punk rocker as so many people my age did. Learning the songs of the bands I listened to. As I got older and more proficient at my instrument, I began playing for the high school jazz bands and choirs in the area I grew up, beautiful Bremerton WA. When I was 16 I began my formal training at Olympic College where I played bass in several of the school ensembles as well as studied Theory, ear training, and history courses. At 18 I graduated with an AAS degree, took a year off to tour with a vocal jazz group called Jazz line, then applied to Cornish College of the Arts the following year. My name is Zarni and I am a recent graduate from the Berklee College of Music with a Bachelors in Music Education and Songwriting. During my time at Berklee I received two scholarships, The Korg Endowed for Early Childhood Education and the Scott Benson Scholarship, the highest award given for Songwriting. Most recently I won Most Promising Music Educator Award in the Choral department, an award given by the Dean of the Berklee College of Music.

I have taught in several different environments. I taught for two years at the West End Boys and Girls Club (an after school program for teens ages 10-18) as a vocal and piano teacher. I also started a songwriting program for students that were interested in writing. I have loved music as long as I can remember. I know its cliché to say so, but it's true! :)

For me, having parents of different ethnicities and siblings that were much older than me, I was heavily impacted by the wide variety of music to which my family members listened. The force of this crayon box of rhythms and sounds captivated and affected me so much that it is the key experience that I draw from in making my own music today.

I grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska (a small town in the center of the state) so my only option for entertainment and fun was getting involved in the arts! I started performing at a very young age as both a dancer and a musician. I studied classical ballet, modern dance, hip hop and street dance, and world dance traditions throughout my formative years, which helped me to gain rhythmical fluency. I started my formal music training when I began to play the cello. From then on, I was hooked on the sound and I immersed myself in music as much as I could;...

I was classically trained from ages 6-16, while teaching myself guitar, drums, songwriting, and vocals on the side. Learning about the "why" and "how" behind the piano (i.e. Music Theory) while I was in college brought about the musical freedom I am so passionate about showing students. In addition, learning drums by imitation and by ear really rounded out my piano training, which is why I use more than just a single "method" or only teaching the student how to read music well.
