About Cem

Thanks for checking out my profile. I look forward to helping you reach your musical goals in drum and percussion! Here's a little info about my musical training:

Born in Istanbul, Turkey and raised in Tulsa, OK, my first musical experiences were on my grandmother's old piano. I was later introduced to a drum set when my brother and I received a drum set as a gift. I played in several local bands and in my high school jazz band in Tulsa, playing a range of musical styles from rock, swing, funk, and Latin. I decided in my senior year of high school to take music seriously and moved to NYC to study at the Drummer's Collective. During this period, I also focused on Middle Eastern hand percussion (doumbek, riq, and frame drum) and studied with Mehmet Akatay in Turkey. ...

Instructor Review

Cem is an excellent instructor, a very patient teacher that takes the time to discuss the importance of form and sound quality. I have always had the desire to play drums and have never played so I appreciate his approach of making me feel at ease by playing along with me so I can see his form and technique. All the feedback I have received I have been able to return to the next class with improved skill and understanding. I really enjoy and look forward to my classes and I am happy with my progression during a short period of time.

Dylan is an excellent teacher and an amazing drummer. He is down-to-earth and makes you feel comfortable immediately. He's also very organized regarding scheduling, and his lesson plans are flexible and productive. His teaching style is detail oriented and he explains well. He does not hesitate to correct my child and still encourages her to play better. Dylan is very enthusiastic about drumming and makes lessons a joy to take.

I am so glad we found him as soon as we came to NYC!

He's an unbelievable teacher!

Paul is a teacher kids and parents would beg for! He's patient, kind, funny and amazing with my son. My child is not easy to calm, let alone teach, but Paul has this kind and fun personality that connects well with my son. When its time to learn they get down to business but when my son needs a break from the concentration, Paul allows him to break loose a bit and even joins in on the fun! I've never been more happy with a teacher before!!
Thank you Paul!! Your awesome!!!

Renaud is a Great Instructor!

My son, Liam, eally enjoys his drum lessons with Renaud. He comes home excited about what he has learned and goes straight to his drums to show us. Renaud is teaching him the fundamentals, as well as challenging him with new rhythms. Liam's ability to read and write music has improved, as well as his speed. We are very pleased.

Rob was an awesome teacher and even better guy. The lesson environment was comfortable, but always focused and professional. He's clearly a hugely talented musician and has a ton to offer in the way of teaching; perhaps more importantly though, his love of music inspires the student to practice and learn. Very highly recommended.
