Here are a few reasons why drums are important and just awesome:
1. No one can rock out like a drummer.
2. Schlepping your gear from gig to gig is cheaper than a membership to a gym, and it is an even better workout.
3. Percussion is a vital element of every musical style — from rock and blues to R & B to Caribbean.
4. Good drumming has always been the hallmark of hit songs.
5. You have always had great rhythm and musical interest, and now you want to put it to some good use.
6. Drumming will sharpen your concentration and hone your listening skills.
7. You don't need a Ph.D. in music theory to play the drums.
8. Drumming relieves stress and allows you to explore creative expression.
9. Practicing the drums will help you to develop your sense of time and reflexes.
10. Drummers are the heartbeat of any band.

I have taught drums/percussion, music composition, and music software (Sibelius, Reason).
I'm currently a master's student at NYU studying music. I have been playing drums for over 15 years and have have had extensive training in drums. Teachers I have studied under include: Gordon Rencher (Third Angle), Kyle McLowery, Todd Bishop, and Julian MacDonough. In addition, I have been composing for 11 years and hold a bachelor's degree from Western Washington University in music composition. Composition teachers include: Julia Wolfe, Roger Briggs, Bruce Hamilton, and Lesley Sommer.
I've been teaching drums/percussion for 4 years and my students have gone on to All County and performing with various ensembles. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to know the basics and as time goes on you'll be able to have the skill to rock out! I specialize in all genres and my lesson plans are always shaped around the student. I use a variety of books as well. Technique is essential but my main goal is too present the joy of playing drums and preaching 'fun' practicing.
Steven C. gained experience as a drummer by studying through high school and through college. At Syosset High School he realized his love for Jazz and ended up having the privilege of studying with Earl Williams (LI Jazz Great, Toured with Buddy Holly). He then continued his education to Hofstra University where he studied with Tony Tedesco (John Pizzarelli, 42nd street revival, Chicago.) He also studied with Chris Tibaldi, Paul Caputo and Chris Rizzeli.
While Jazz may be his passion he knows and is able to perform many different genres. HIs eclectic tastes in music range from Stevie Wonder to Led Zeppelin to Miles Davis to any modern day rock as well.
Steven tends to emphasize technique but realizes that it can get boring very fast. He emphasizes the idea of just sitting down, ...
"Steven is very professional and extremely helpful. He always has a smile on and is serious about helping you phrase the music. I would highly recommend him to anyone."
"It's been really exciting so far! Jordan has been so helpful, so knowledgeable. I could not have found a better instructor and I'm getting better and better every day."
"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
