Hi, my name is Elliott and I am a native of Penn Hills, Pa. My primary instrument is the trombone which I started playing at the age of 9. I also played violin, cello, and electric bass. I received my bachelor's degree from Edinboro University of Pa and my master's degree from New Jersey City University majoring in music education and performance. I am currently a member of the Pittsburgh Musicians Union and Delegate for the American Federation of Musicians of the U.S. and Canada. I am also a member of the Music Educators National Conference, Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and the International Trombone Association. I have performed with the Harold Betters, Trombone Forum Big Band, and the North Suburban Symphonic Band.

I currently teach at the WPCC Melody Shop in West Mifflin, Pa. I teach brass, strings, and woodwind instruments. I am a laid back music teacher. When I teach, I try to make music fun and enjoying while still teaching the basic fundamentals. I pick specific things for my students to practice but I also let them play things they like so they continue to enjoy music and want to learn more.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in the form and analysis of music. Braking down the music to its simplest form and billing on the fundamnetals
Erin S. - Cello
I studied cello performance at Carnegie-Mellon University with Anne Martinadale-Williams, principal cellist of the Pittsburgh Symphony. I also studied with members of the Boston Symphony, the Chautauqua Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra and the Beaux Arts Trio. I have performed extensively around the country and in Europe, including New York City’s Carnegie Hall. In the Pittsburgh area, I have played with the Westmoreland Symphony, Altoona Symphony and spent several years as principal cellist of the Pittsburgh Philharmonic. I teach privately in the Pittsburgh area, where I have maintained a teaching studio for over 18 years.
In addition to my classical career, I have extensive experience in rock, jazz, country and bluegrass and have been featured in over 50 recordings on cello, electric cello, upright bass and bass guitar.
Benefit from my decades of experience and there will be no limit to what you can learn!
*** Lesson Details ***
Most of my lessons follow a standard curriculum of etudes, pieces, bowing and position exercises, and duets. I allow my students a certain amount of freedom in choosing their "fun" pieces and often will transcribe popular songs that my students request. Anything from "Game of Thrones" to Macklemore to video game theme songs. I encourage all my students to learn music theory basics and improvisation skills, but I understand that improv is not for everyone and I don't push those who have no wish to learn it. I've had many adult students and understand how to teach those with limited practice time.
*** Studio Equipment ***
I have two cellos and a piano, music stand, and lesson books, but require students to bring their own cellos and books.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching classical cello techniques and applying them to a wide range of musical genres. I also have had great success in teaching my students how to improvise.
