I was born in Mexico City and started started my music education in the College of Music and Dance in Monterrey, Mexico at the age of 8 years old. I enjoy playing music more than anything else, its been quite literally the one constant for the last decade or so of my life.

I began piano lessons at age 8, and joined choir at age 10. I have played orchestral instruments since the age of 11, and have continued my musical education for over 20 years. As a former public school orchestra teacher, I specialize in public school methods, and the repertoire associated with progressing in in the school system. While I follow the Bastien method for beginner piano students, and Essential Elements 2000 for beginner string students, I am creative with expanding repertoire based on student desires and needs and am able to help students excel in other genres as well.

I started learning guitar at the tender age of six and began playing piano and guitar in church choir from age twelve. Before too long I was handling weddings and playing happy hour at local bars. At one time or another I may have had a Jimi Hendrix cover band. In college I worked for many years under the classical guitar tutelage of Benito Ramos. I studied piano and Music Theory under Dr. Bruce JG Kotowich, Dr. Dan Keast, Dr. Kathryn Hoppe among others. I've played many of the local music venues in Austin. My musical journey was a stubborn one. I refused to learn to read music until I was forced to because all my musical heroes couldn't read. Honestly I think it makes me a good teacher because I know both sides. Also I am an autodidact; most of what I know I learned listening to albums over and over and imitating what I heard.

I have been playing guitar since August 1992. I cut my teeth on the alternative music that was popular at the time (Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Nirvana) but soon began to focus on earlier movements, specifically the playing styles and mindsets of Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and Eric Clapton. I formed a band in 1996 and began gigging in Austin and throughout Texas. During this time, I immersed myself in jazz and did everything I could to bring the sonic palettes of Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and Miles Davis into my playing, even taking up saxophone and piano in order to better understand what they were doing.

I am an Austin transplant of nearly 6 years now. I studied music theory and composition in the Midwest and have been playing funk music in Texas since graduating college in 2007. I'm a multi-instrumentalist and think YOU SHOULD BE, TOO!

I spend most of my time either playing, listening to, or thinking about music. I play bass in most of my gigging groups and enjoy acoustic guitar/singing in my recreational time. Music is a language - the more you listen (critically), play (with purpose), and ponder music the more accessible it becomes. I often hear a song on the radio in my car, turn down the radio when it's over, whistle it all the way home, then immediately grab my guitar and try to decipher/decode/learn it. A great exercise!
