Clarence P. Richmond, VA

About Clarence

Clarence P. saw one of his older friends playing a trombone in elementary school band and became intrigued with wanting to play it also. He approached his father about renting one and thus began Clarence’s musical experience.

George Ross, a nationally renowned contra-bassoonist was his first music instructor.

After elementary school, Clarence continued to play trombone in middle school under the direction of Dave Williams a well-known woodwinds player in the swing jazz community. He became first chair and continued his musical experience in high school under Paul Cartwright, a cellist in the Richmond Symphony Orchestra and Robert Momchilov. He also learned to play the baritone horn and was awarded a medal for outstanding musicianship his senior year. With the ...

Sandra H. is a teacher you can rely on to encourage you to perform not only for yourself, but for an audience. I can't remember a lesson day when Ms. Sandra wouldn't tell me, once I had mastered a piece, to play for the church congregation, or to one of her colleagues' open recitals. One specific time, I was asked to play 3 songs for the congregation by someone who heard Ms. Sandra specifically praising my skill. I was told to form a group of 3 total, so I invited a friend and my brother to play the trumpet and the violin, respectively. Ms. Sandra was very encouraging and determined to assist in perfecting the pieces I would do within the week I had to prepare, and I'm certain that without the help, the performance would have been a complete, total disaster. She not only provided a teacher's support - helping me practice the correct rhythm and speed, to name the parts I had trouble with - she also gave me a friend's support, telling me not to allow stage-fright to consume my confidence before I even had a chance to start.

What can I say? She's a great teacher, and cares for her students beyond the borders of the musical world.

Great teacher for beginners and advance

My 4-year daughter has never been to school so I thought it would be a challenge to have her first lessons to be in a PIANO class. But she is doing well because Ms Sandra made it easy and fun for her. At the same time my elder daughter who is more advance had stopped for 3 years. Transision was easy and she is catching up fas because she enjoyed Ms Sandra's lessons. Over all I am very please with her teaching technique. Very passionate in what she's doing. It really shows that her first GOAL is for her students to learn and appreciate good music. I would recommend.

I started taking djembe lessons from Mr. Lopez just over 6 months ago. I had been wanting to participate in a drum circle but had never played an instrument before, I was very apprehensive and no confidence in myself. Right away he made it easy for me by making it fun, which was important. It's so exciting to see how far I have come knowing the correct techniques he has instilled in me as I have found that many players don't use. I am having fun and have been to many drum circles now without lacking skill and confidence in my new found abilities thanks to Mr. Lopez

Art Lopez is a Wonderful long time teacher

Art Lopez is such a wonderful hand drum instructor; I only wish I had started with him in the very beginning. I say that because it is now harder to unlearn the incorrect way that I was playing all these years, before he showed me how to play correctly. I can now get all the different sounds out of my drum and sound really good. Also my hands don’t hurt like they use to. He approaches each lesson with enthusiasm and humor. It makes learning a lot easier. I have had some other instructors and Art Lopez is by far the best. I don’t usually write reviews for anyone but I was inspired to do so in this case.
