I recently received my BA in music from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. While the school is not well known for music, the program stressed being as well rounded in as possible with a "Learn by doing" attitude permeating every class. I believe that this attitude is essential to all musicians, regardless of what style they are interested in. No matter if you wish to sing pop or opera, the basics are the same. I emphasize singing in a healthy manner and taking care of your voice. I also believe that most people are capable of singing well.
I have been involved in several Opera scene performances, most notably performing the role of Lucia in the Mad Scene from "Lucia di Lammermoor" and the Marschallin in the finale of "Der Rosenkavalier." With this background, I can help my students learn how to sing in other languages as well as help them with performance practice, proper posture, basic music reading, and giving them access to resources for more learning opportunities.

Growing up in a church environment I first taught myself gospel and later jazz. I personally love jazz, and this is one of my areas of strength. At the age of 10 months, I was hit with a deadly disease: Spinal Meningitis. But thank God, I survived. Because of the disease, I became legally deaf (profound-severed) in my left ear and hard-of-hearing (severed) in my right ear. I currently use a hearing-aide device on my right ear. Born and raised in Los Angeles, I was lucky to have at my disposal some of the best bass players in the world to study with. Some of my first teachers were Herb Mickman, the late great Monty Budwig, and Max Bennet who single handedly taught me how to read music! After high school I continued my education at the Dick Grove Music Workshop and the Musicians Institute in Hollywood. During this time I continued to study privately with the likes of Bunny Brunell and Andy West. For most of the next twenty years I played in and around L.A. in well rehearsed progressive rock projects to just good ol' rock and blues bands. It wasn't until later in my life that I fell in love with classical music. Since then I've played in Orchestras in and around Sacramento as well as many chamber music and jazz gigs. This breadth of experience allows me to be flexible with the individual needs of each student and to compose a lesson plan that will benefit each students unique goals.
