About Bernadette

I am a NYS certified teacher who has been teaching in the school system for 20 years. I hold both my BM and MA degree in Music Education, and Jazz guitar was my major instrument in college.

Incorporated in my system of guitar training work in music reading, music theory, fretboard navigation, pick-control and fingerstyle techniques, and ear-training applicable to most contemporary styles of music.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons follow a structured format. I begin with technical exercises for both the picking/strumming hand and the fretting hand, leading to good sound production. As students learn to achieve well-balanced tones, they learn to apply that to the written page using standard music notation and the TAB system. From single notes, students learn to build harmony, ...

When the year started and I wanted to get serious playing guitar and becoming a better performer, singer, songwriter and just overall musician, I said to myself, "Where do I start?" To find someone of Bernadette's talent, quality, and patience has truly be amazing. She is great at setting up a practice structure and teaching theory as well as building up your skills and open to directing the lessons to exactly what you are looking for. My confidence on the guitar has grown by leaps and bounds and I looking forward to continuing the journey...5 stars!!!!!

Professional and Experienced Teacher

I've had 4 lessons so far with Bernadette. I am an adult and feel I am making great progress. The lessons are a good mix of learning to play the guitar, learning to read music and theory. She recommended a good beginner book and while we stick to it she tailors the material according to how I am doing and need to learn. She also makes notes and gives me additional work in a music notebook. The lessons are never rushed and because there isn't a student after me usually are 5-10 minutes over the 45 minutes.
I feel fortunate to have found someone with a Masters in music education and 20 years of teaching experience.

As a choir conductor and church musician, I encountered all kinds vocal challenges from classical style to contemporary one. I'm very happy that Dr. Douglas is able to answer every question I brought to him. His experience and knowledge directly helped me toward my own breakthrough in vocal performance. Singing
Extraordinary, perceptive instruction

Michael is my first and only voice teacher. I came to him because I wanted a more comfortable and confident singing experience. With kind and patient guidance, I am learning to sing like myself and not copy the performance of professional singers on each song. Michael coaxes your personal sound right out of you! I am finally free to sing like me.....
Nikki L. Medford, NY

About Nikki

Hello there! For the past nine years I have taught students of all ages and ability. In addition to maintaining a private studio, I have also taught at the college level as a graduate teaching assistant.

While enrolled in flute lessons, students will receive instruction on developing tone, technique and musicality on the flute as well as focus on proper breathing and posture. In addition to being coached on practicing techniques, problem solving and setting and achieving realistic goals, students will learn how to constructively and positively assess their own playing. This creates a sense of ownership that allows the student to blossom into a mature musician and lifelong lover of music. This is my primary goal and purpose as a teacher.

I am looking forward to meeting you and ...

From mother of a private student:

Robert is an excellent vocal coach, working with my son in classical/opera voice & preparation for college auditions. Robert is a dynamic, enthusiastic teacher who understands the foundations & process of voice development, enjoys sharing that knowledge & is an enormously talented singer in his own right. It's a delight each week to listen to my son's lessons from the next room! I highly recommend Robert for teaching, performance & any voice related service.

Fine teacher, polished performer, talented singer

Robert Mellon was my student at the Crane School of Music of SUNY Potsdam for four years. Not only was he one of my most talented voices during my time there on faculty, but he had tremendous acting talent and skills, especially comedic timing, and he always had a strong work ethic. After winning many awards and scholarships, he went on to Manhattan School of Music where he continued to excel as a singer/actor. I can recommend him highly as a polished performer with a gorgeous instrument, and I am sure that he has developed into a fine teacher. Music Performance
You'll get everything!

I have seen and heard Robert Mellon perform in all kinds of venues. I sat beside him as he coached students for auditions, and worked with him in rehearsals. Because he was one of the most serious students and mesmerizing performers I ever encountered during my tenure at The Crane School of Music, he is the only student I considered composing a work for. I got to know Bobby a little but as we toured “Sing!” around upstate New York with the Crane Symphony Orchestra. Not only is he an extraordinary singer, actor and teacher, he is a terrific human being as well.

Robert Mellon is an excellent teacher, performer and coach.
