About Reba

I love music! I began piano lessons when I was 4 years old. Beginning in 5th grade, I began accompanying for programs in my church and school. I was very active in competitions and recitals all the way up through my high school graduation with 1st place awards in most of those competitions. While there I also accompanied for many senior and graduate voice recitals as well as accompanying University choirs and ensembles. Wonderful with young children

My 6 year old daughter began taking piano lessons last year with a different instructor. At the end of the year, we decided that we weren't getting the feedback and communication we needed from a teacher and that she wasn't were she could be so we began looking for a new instructor. I found Reba through takelessons.com and decided to see how things worked out. It has been a couple of months and the growth in my daughter is amazing. Reba is wonderful with her and does a good job at figuring out what works best for her in the learning process. She has been great at communicating with me and addressing my concerns. Overall my daughter and I are very happy to have found her:)

Lessons are going great!

Reba has been working with my son and has kept him interested, intrigued and wanting to come back for more (which is saying a lot)! She is extremely patient, kind, professional and understanding. I especially love the positive reinforcement that she gives when he does a good job and the encouragement she gives when he doesn't quite "nail it" by redirecting him w/verbal prompts/reminders of the correct formation. In addition, she has addressed my concern (not using ALL of his fingers to play) and has had much success in correcting it! Thanks to Reba, my son is enjoying his lessons at home, the music he plays and looking forward to his upcoming lessons - we feel blessed to have her in our lives!

About Sarah

I'd like to start off by stating that I am above all a passionate musician, who loves to share this passion with everyone and anyone. I do this by teaching and performing the Violin. My first goal in being a teacher is to make you enthusiastic and passionate about music to make learning the Violin more enjoyable and therefore you will learn quickly and become a virtuoso faster. My second goal is to teach you discipline, an important skill in not only Violin practice but also in life in general. Learning a musical instrument can really be beneficial in future work environments and in schooling. Below is my resume if interested. :) Sarah is a classically trained violinist beginning her schooling at the age of seven where she showed great promise as a performer. She has since studied ...

We have used Sarah for the past year to teach our two daughters, both of whom are advanced violinists having played 11 and 8 years, respectively.

While Sarah has a friendly, engaging personality that is perhaps better suited for the younger, less experienced student, I don't think she's a good fit for taking an advanced student to the next level. Worse, however, is she struggles to be on time, despite the time we agree for her to start (we asked her when she can be here and be on time) and the fact that she has no obligations prior to her start time around noon.

Therefore, because she has been late frequently throughout the past year and, in her last four lessons alone was late three times and completely forgot to come on the other (it was on her TakeLesson Calendar), we had to terminate her. In seven years with their prior instructor (moved away) we can't recall one single time she was late.

Nice, friendly young lady but simply needs to learn to value an essential teacher quality of punctuality and reliability. If she could do this I would rate her a 3 Star with the potential for a 4 Star.

Perfect situation

My daughter enjoys Sarah as she is friendly and close to her same age so they can relate, giving her a positive role model as well. Having other children with other activities each week, I love that she comes to our house sparing me another trip out at night.

Outstanding Teacher!

Though I have only just started learning from Sarah, the one unique aspect of her teaching ability is that she listens and modifies her lessons specifically where the student needs the most guidance. Her more non-traditional format of teaching is excellent for someone who wants to understand the classical theory of the violin but is also interested in modern styles. I am impressed by her ability to build lesson materials based upon the student's individual goals and desires.

Beyond the technical aspects of her teaching, Sarah has a clear and unquestionable love for the violin and a desire for her students to succeed and gain the same sense of joy that the instrument obviously brings to her. It is one thing to be able teach the fundamental mechanics of playing music but is a far greater ability to teach the power that comes from loving something you are learning. In my experience as a military training officer, there are few people who know how to touch their students in a way that they desire to be better than they were the day before or to become more than they are in their own minds. Sarah is one of those gifted instructors that inspires others to greatness.

If you have a serious desire to learn the violin and want to make it part of your life, I highly recommend choosing Sarah as your instructor. I have no doubt that she will impress you as much as she has me.

About John

I have played/studied guitar for almost 15 years. As a musician I have been a part of several different bands and have played at venues all over the southeast. As a teacher I have been giving lessons for almost 10 years and have been very successful in developing techniques and strategies to enhance the skills of beginner and intermediate guitar players. From 2004 to 2006 I served as the lead guitarist for the Lassiter High School FCA. I studied and learned the ins and outs of music theory while I was a member of the National Championship Lassiter High School Marching band for four years. I had the great pleasure of being able to play guitar with John at Lutheran Happening of the South this past Labor Day weekend. It was my first time playing guitar at Happening and I needed to learn the ropes. John was busy both playing music while also being a director for the weekend, but he still made time to practice the songs with me. The music and the entire weekend came together splendidly. If you're looking for a great guitar instructor, you've come to the right web page.

I took lessons with John for a year and a half.

After I bought my first guitar my parents suggested I take lessons. I did not really know what to expect from taking lessons and honestly I did not think I would get very much out of it. I was wrong...

John is a great guitar teacher because he does not do cookie cutter lessons. Each week my lessons were tailored to my goals and progress.

During my first lesson John spent extra time with me talking about what I wanted to get out of guitar lessons, and together we wrote down daily, weekly, and monthly goals (my parents really appreciated this because I started doing this with everything and I am now in college and do this with my classes). For me, music was kind of like a different language but John was able to explain things to me in a simplified way so I could really grasp the concepts.

The first 2 to 3 lessons I worked on basic chords and strum patterns and the techniques I learned jump started my abilities. I exceeded my first month goals and it was not long before I was playing along to a few of my favorite songs. Once I got down the basic chords and strum patterns I learned scales, complex chords, and how to read music and tabs.

If you are really wondering what learning guitar is like, I will tell you that it is difficult and frustrating. My favorite thing about having John as a teacher is that he would call me once a week in between my lessons to see how I was doing, answer questions, and talk through my frustrations. He does this with all of his students and it was evident to myself and my parents that John truly does care about helping his students meet their goals.

I don't think you will come across many guitar teachers like this. Anytime I come across a family member or friend who wants to learn guitar or has a child who wants to learn guitar I send them right over to John.

I highly recommend John to anyone looking for a guitar teacher who will absolutely help you to become a better musician.
