My start in music began with trips from a young age to my mom's rehearsals. As a young child my first instrument of interest was the drums and noticing that I wasn't that good (sister playing better) I quickly moved on to other instruments. During my tenth grade year I joined my high school's marching band playing the trombone. I decided to continue the trombone as my primary instrument while in college at Grambling State University. There I was also able to study other instruments such as bass guitar, piano and organ. Going to college in Louisiana, which has such a musically rich environment, allowed me the opportunity to play venues such as casinos, clubs, appear in commercials and even a halftime show for super bowl 32 as well as other NFL games. My goal for teaching music is to give students the discipline to achieve all of their life's goals.

I have been playing guitar for over eight years. I studied classical guitar at Florida Atlantic University but am also experienced in rhythm guitar and electric bass. In addition, I have a high level of knowledge and skills in contemporary church music. I like to focus on proper techniques and theory for each instrument.

Originally from New York City, music has always been one of my passions and I was hooked from the moment I had my first piano lesson at 7 years of age. I went on to study with excellent teachers which included a scholarship to the Greenwich School of Music in Greenwich Village. During those years I also met my first drama teacher, Gertrud Schattner, a Viennese actress who was one of the founding members of the National Association of Drama Therapy in the United States. She instilled in me a love for musical theatre and prepared me to audition for the High School of Performing Arts, which was portrayed accurately in the original movie "Fame" (1980). I received a rigorous and thorough training there in theatre, voice, and movement and have since gone on to perform and to give instruction in acting and singing.

Knowing at the age of 5 that music was my life, by being brought up surrounded by praise music and gospel, my early exposure to music helped me to find every Instrument and style just my thing! I wanted to play everything and learn all aspects of music. I started with singing in the children's choir and then developed into piano and music theory. At the age of 12 I began to learn classical guitar, and at 15 took on various styles like Flamenco, Jazz and Rock. As a young girl I began taking private piano lessons which eventually led me to participate in the string program at my Elementary School. Not knowing anything about string instruments I was handed a Cello by the Conductor, and I've been playing ever since!
I joined the local symphony GMYS (Greater Miami Youth Symphony) throughout my highschool career which not only boosted my orchestral playing but was a great motivation to continue playing.
In the midst of my college career I became inspired to share my knowledge of music with young players.
My goal as a teacher is to motivate and inspire students with music whether they're beginning or advanced players, and of any age.

My Background:
I have been singing since the age of four! I am a native of Miami Beach Florida. I started performing in church and school where my passion for performing were developed. Having come from such a background I was privileged with a well rounded musical tastes, from Gospel in church Classical in school, and Reggae, Pop, Rock, and R&B from her parents. In performing in contests and local shows I learned a lot about stage presence and can share that with my students as well. I earned my bachelor's in Studio Music and Jazz Voice and the University of Miami as well as a Minor in Music Business. At UM I had the opportunity to study with critically acclaimed Jazz musicians and artists such as Kevin Mahogany, Kurt Elling and John Secada. Lorna is a music teacher who has been teaching voice and piano for years. She is a graduate of Florida International University where she earned a Bachelor degree in Music Education. She is lots of fun. Lorna is also a professional singer who sings several genres, which includes opera, jazz, R&B, gospel, pop and music theatre. A student can expect to grow and advance in their instrument of choice while they enjoy learning with Lorna.

Maria was born in La Habana, Cuba. She started her music studies at the early age of 4 years old, singing and acting in tv shows and receiving piano lessons.
At 7 years old entered Manuel Saumell Music Consevatory where she studied piano and choir direction. She continues her music studies at Amadeo Roldan Music Conservatory, one of the most prestigious music schools in Cuba, where she completed piano, flute and theoretical subjects. In 2000, she traveled to United Arab Emirates, as a part of work tour, where she played for two years in different scenarios in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Back in La Habana, Cuba, she entered the Superior Institute of the Arts, where she graduated with honors in flute and piano performance.
In 2006 she moved to the United States where she continues her music career performing, recording and teaching.
Besides her performer career she's been trained as a teacher, having extensive experience with all ages, from 5 years old to adults.

I am a singer, pianist and guitarist who, through the arts, has achieved a lifelong love and passion for performing and teaching music. This love for music prompted me to pursue music education at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music leading to my certification for teaching music K-12 including band, orchestra, chorus, and general music. Using music, I plan to broaden my students’ perspectives, increase their appreciation for classical through popular music, and ultimately, improve their musical ability. I hope that through lessons we can explore my students' musical goals, helping them achieve their dreams as well.

After completing a B.Mus Honors degree in Performance in Ottawa, Ontario Canada in 2004, I moved to Winnipeg to study at the Master's level at The University of Manitoba. In 2006 I relocated to Miami Florida and have been living here since. I completed a Master's degree and a Doctorate in Jazz Performance at The University of Miami. I have been teaching and performing in the U.S. and Canada for many years in a wide range of styles- rock, alternative, blues, country etc.
