About Me

*** Travel Equipment ***
Hand Percussion instruments such as maracas, clave, guiro, castanets, snapping, hand clapping.

*** Specialties ***
I believe the student should have an idea of the genre of music they would like to study. With that in mind...the piece, composition that they are trying to perfect should be presented to me. Then we can understand where the problem lies. Is it stage fright, breathing, timing,
tone of the voice, fingering on the piano, or which challenge? This we will see what needs to be addressed.

Subjects Taught

Acting, Bass Guitar, Broadway Singing, Clarinet, Classical Guitar, Flute, Guitar, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Piano, Saxophone, Singing, Speaking Voice, Trombone, Trumpet

About Me

I have been involved in music all of my life. As a child I played trumpet in band and sang in school and church choirs. My favorite movies were musicals and they still are my favorite. Music was my major in college, which included singing, dancing, acting and playing musical instruments. I like all types of music. As a school teacher, I taught 3rd. grade through high school, everything from band and choir to musical theater. I also taught private students, of all ages, piano, guitar, voice and most of the wind instruments.

*** Lesson Details ***
My students can expect to learn the basics of music theory, such as melody, harmony, key signature and rhythm. I want my students to have fun by learning the kind of music they like best while learning to appreciate the kind of music that will develop their musical skills. Piano books like John Schaum and guitar books like Mel Bay's Guitar Method are good books to learn to read music and learn the proper way to play your instrument. Scale exercises are important for instrumental, as well as, vocal students. I use a practice log and CD-DVD recordings of my students so they can see and hear their progress. At the end of 6 months I want my students to play their favorite songs in 3 different keys. C, G and F Major.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Designated music room: Two keyboards, guitars, sound equipment, PA system, computers, seating for parents (he encourages it!)

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students need their own inst. I have one of every inst. to demo. except piano and guitar which I have 2 of each.

*** Specialties ***
Open-minded to all music. I specialize in performance. I help my students with their look, as well as, their sound. I know how to bring out the best in my students.

Subjects Taught

Acting, Broadway Singing, Music Performance, Opera Voice, Singing, Speaking Voice, Theater Acting

About Me

I love to sing, I love to act and I love to teach! I have been teaching for over 10 years and sincerely value bringing music and theater into people’s lives. My teaching philosophy is simple; anyone can sing, each person has something wonderful to offer and everyone deserves a chance to shine.

With that in mind, here is a little background on me and my journey to becoming a teacher.
I graduated from California State University, Northridge in 2005 with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with an emphasis on voice and choral conducting. At the age of 15, I was accepted into the California State Summer School for the Arts on a full merit scholarship in the field of Theater. There, I studied acting, directing, singing, writing, stage combat, voice, set design, lighting and sound. I performed as a member of the Masanga Marimba Ensemble for ten years, singing and playing music from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Central and South America. As a group, we have toured all throughout California, Arizona, Colorado, Oregon and Washington, playing at world music festivals, charity concerts, weddings, private parties and more. I have been singing in choirs since the third grade and was a member of The Northridge Singers (named Choir of the World 2003) for three years. In college, I was the Vice-President of the MENC (Music Educator’s National Conference) CSUN chapter and received a recognition award for my work as a singer with the Women’s Chorale and an achievement award for my work as a student teacher in the Music Education department. I have been singing and acting for over 20 years and have been directing musicals and teaching voice since High School. My passion for directing and teaching started in a high school elective class called Musical Show Production. This is the class that I began to write, produce, direct and perform in my own original, full-length musicals. For the past 6 years, I have been a classroom music teacher at a private school in southern California. There I taught grades Kindergarten through 8, music, musical theater, acting, choir, tone chimes, scenic design, art, dance and character development. I recently moved to the bay area and I am currently directing musicals in the North Bay (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, School House Rock Live, Rent, Once on This Island) and teaching voice, musical theater and acting.
I have been living out my dream as a performing arts teacher and have had the honor of working with the most wonderful students over the years. I can’t wait to meet you and can’t wait to see you shine!

*** Lesson Details ***
I work with students to bring out their individual strengths and nurture their love for music and performing. During lessons, we will work on breathing, posture, diction, articulation, projection, musicianship, stage presence, and tone. I think it's important that a student loves what they sing so I try to find repertoire that is fun for the singer, presents a challenge, aids in developing strong vocal technique, promotes good vocal health and will make their music theory and singing voice as strong as possible.
Every genre of music has something unique to offer, so during lessons, we will work with many different styles of music from Italian arias to show tunes, and from pop songs to R & B favorites, versatility is the key. Together, we’ll find the beauty in your one-of-a-kind voice, get you singing what you love, and sounding brilliant! I look forward to working with you to build confidence, express yourself, discover your own style, and have some fun! I value proper technique but the most important lesson I provide to my students is to have a great love for performing. I will help you love to sing and sing really well!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room: Good neighborhood, seating for parents, piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would provide sheet music, audio tracks to practice with and a music player. They should have a keyboard or piano.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Musical Theater style singing, R&B style and Jazz/Blues style singing. I also have classical voice training and can teach music in several different languages. I can also teach African style Marimba and singing.

About Me

After graduating California Institute of the Arts with a multi-focus on several aspects of music including African dance, Indonesian gamelan, songwriting, recording, classical voice and piano, folk guitar, and more, Liz had the excellent opportunity to teach theater to a local musical theater summer youth program. All summer, she taught class sizes ranging from 10 to 26 students of the ages 5-10. Her initiative later led to being hired at this local community theater. Along with this theater teaching experience, she has been teaching piano, guitar, ukulele, flute & voice lessons for over 9 years. Her students have gone from knowing nothing about music to learning and performing entire pieces on their own as well as even auditioning & for agents and becoming signed artists in Los Angeles. Liz knows that it is her place in the world to teach music & spread positivity through her own music and would love nothing more than make learning music a positive and fun experience for everyone.

*** Lesson Details ***
I teach out of the Alfred's Piano course, but am open to trying out any music books you may already have in your home. I do expect my students to purchase the books they would like to learn out of and to have the material I have given them for homework ready, completed, and practiced by the time we have our weekly lesson. I recommend at least twenty to thirty minutes of practice every day, and will give rewards for having practiced well, and for performing well in our lessons. I would love it for my students to be clear on what they would like to learn, and I love using songs that the student enjoys to make his or her music learning process fun.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In my home studio, I have a full size Cable-Nelson upright piano, as well as two ukuleles, and two guitars (one acoustic-electric and one electric).

*** Travel Equipment ***
When I travel, I bring my own instrument that the student is learning on so that I can demonstrate, as well as a music stand if necessary.

*** Specialties ***
Pop, folk, opera, musical theater, classical, rock, reggae

Music/Performing Arts Tutoring:
I can prepare you for recitals, competitions, a musical career or just to learn for fun! I have a pretty laid back teaching style. Not only do I make sure that you can perform well but I also make sure you know the history of what you are performing and what it means to you. I allow my students to choose most of the music they want to play, as long as it's in their ability. I am also happy to rearrange the music so it might be easier for you to play and/or understand. It is very important that my students have goals and we work towards achieving them. I give small homework assignments so that you can reach your goals with ease. I put a lot of importance of family involvement in learning and performance. I have a monthly recital with all my students. I also offer free MP3 recordings so my students can track their performance audibly!

Academic Tutoring:
Struggling in class? Need help writing a paper? Have a difficult test coming up? I am happy to help. It's important to attend all tutoring session and on time.
