I love the piano and I am excited about the prospect of sharing my passion for the instrument with those, young and old who are eager to explore for themselves. From the time I began taking lessons in the 3rd grade and now into my post retirement years, I have been an active player. My experience includes playing in jazz bands, choirs, supper clubs, for special occasions, accompaniment for vocalists; playing and directing worship bands for traditional and contemporary services in gospel as well as contemporary Christian genres. My commitment to the piano has led me to adapt a lifestyle of study and practice that has given me the proficiency as well as the knowledge of theory to adapt to many different musical environments. Kalyn B. has a variety of both teaching and performance experience. She has been a vocal instructor in the Lancaster area for over three years, and enjoys watching her students grow and fall in love with the art of singing. Kalyn has performed in several theater productions, including playing the female lead in Pirates of Penzance. She has performed in several choirs and a Capella groups in the area as well. Kalyn has been classically trained, but teaches all styles of music, including musical theater, pop, jazz, and gospel.

I graduated with a B.A. in Professional Music from Boston's Berklee College of Music. When I first heard about Berklee, I too thought of warm and sunny Berkeley California and not the frigid winters in Boston. Berklee however, is respected world-wide as the musicians music college. Each year, only 3% of students are able to graduate. Advanced freshman placement accelerated all Berklee core requirements by my sophomore year. An early focus on their Advanced Harmony/Theory and Ear Training electives provided the rare opportunity of experiencing Berklee's highest level courses in both departments. I graduated with Honors in 7 semesters with a cumulative music GPA of 3.6. (Magna Cum Laude). I have been teaching piano and guitar for one year now. I am a recent graduate from Temple University with my Bachelors of Music, specializing in music theory and Classical piano. I have been playing piano for nearly 20 years, and guitar for 15 years. I have a strong Classical background, especially in piano, but I also have an extensive rock background.

When I take on a new student, I find out as much about their personal musical interests as I can. Though I typically use lesson book-based teaching for beginning students, I also use any other materials the student is interested in once they have some experience with their instrument. This includes Classical repertoire, or any pop or rock songs they would like to learn.

I have played with various gigging bands around Philadelphia and Central PA on guitar, keyboards, vocals, and drums. These bands include progressive rockers Igor's Egg, synth rock band Coup Couroux, and cover band Bombay Zoo.
