My name is Brian. I've been a professional musician and educator for over 20 years teaching both guitar and bass. I've been fortunate enough to play with (and learned from) some of the finest musicians around, and I look forward to sharing that knowledge with you. My goal as a teacher is to help you get to where you want to be in the shortest amount of time possible.

I began playing guitar about 15 years ago and have made music an integral part of my life since Day 1. While working towards my degree in Music Composition at U.C. Riverside, I began teaching as a means to earn extra money. After graduating in 2007, I began teaching full time. Over the past several years I have professionally released 2 full length records and 1 E.P., have toured the U.S., New Zealand and Australia, was featured in AllMusic Guide (in which my album received a 4 star rating), have performed at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, TX on 2 separate occasions, and have licensed songs to MTV, VH1 and Universal Pictures. Though gigging, writing and recording keeps me busy, teaching has remained the one constant, and nothing brings me greater satisfaction than sharing the joy of music with my students.

ABOUT MYSELF
I started late on the guitar in a family of musicians. I picked up the guitar when I was 18 years old when I found an old acoustic at my grandfather’s house. From then I was self taught listening to Punk Rock, New Wave, and learning from friends. My love for the instrument and music drove me to really apply myself to really learning how to play. I would sit and just be creative, writing my own songs and putting little back yard bands together with my cousin and friends. Then, it was time for college and had to make a decision on what to study. Music was my passion and I never really taken a lesson before. I prepared myself by studying with Stephan Ferrara-Grand in San Clemente,CA for a short time to audition into the music program. I passed! I graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the San Diego State University School of Music and Dance in 1999, and I studied jazz guitar with international guitarist/violinist Art Johnson and theory with David Ward-Steinman. I have performed professionally at Disneyland, was former musical director for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, and have toured professionally with many groups; including Phil Wilson's Rainbow Band and the AlcoSKAlics.

Teaching has been a passion of mine since the mid-'90s. I have taught students that were as young as 5 years old to 80 years old. I can teach and play a variety of instruments, including: keyboards, bass, drums, latin percussion, brass instruments and acoustic guitar. I also teach compostion, arranging, and conducting.

Many of my formers students have gone on to become professional musicians, teachers, and recording engineers.

I started playing music around the Kansas City area twenty five years ago. I graduated from The University of Southern California with a degree in studio/jazz guitar (cum laude). While at USC, I received a merit scholarship and an award for professional leadership and service within her department. I also graduated with honors from Musicians Institute (GIT), of Hollywood, CA.

I have toured the U.S. and Canada playing venues such as The Portland Rose Festival, The Playboy Jazz Festival, The Santa Monica Twilight Concert Series, Irvine Lake Blues Festival,The Burnaby British Columbia Blues Festival and the Long Beach Blues Festival. The headliners at these events included Robben Ford, The Neville Brothers, and Johnny Winter.

Music has been a part of my life since I was 5 years old, when my father would record my brother and I singing. I always loved singing and learned many of my favorite songs as a child.

I started playing the trumpet in the 4th grade, which has led me all the way to receiving my degrees in Trumpet Performance and Music Education! I was lucky enough to attend one of the nation's top music schools, The Peabody Institute, and I now work toward my Master's degree at California State University, Long Beach. As a 15 year old teen I was headed no where. I had no interests, and was failing my freshman year of high school.This is when I started playing the guitar and fell in love with music. As a simple introduction, my name is Roy and I have been a musician and music teacher for over 35 years. Guitar is my principle instrument, although I also teach bass, beginning keyboards and drums.
Starting with my first piano lessons and continuing into college, I studied classical music, musicianship, ear training, and theory. After many years performing in bands and recording music I progressed to jazz theory, sight reading, and improvisation at Dick Grove’s Jazz Workshop in Studio City. I have been playing music for over fifteen years and have been teaching professionally for over five. I really enjoy teaching and performing and I have won awards in music composition. I have a BA in Education and have taken numerous music courses in my academic career including Harmony, Musicianship, Composition etc. I have also taught in all cities in South Orange County. I am 25, I live in Laguna Hills, and I have always done well with younger students because I can relate to them better than a lot of teachers from my experience. It's always nice to see the expression on students faces when they learn to play something they listen to and really wanted to learn.
