I can break down concepts of music theory from finding a single note on sheet music to identifying seventh chords

About Ayana

Well, for one, I graduated from Rutgers University with a B.A. in Music, and I've been playing piano for about 14 years. I'm a music theory nerd, and educate my students with theory concepts such as augmented/diminished intervals, scale degrees, 7th chords, etc (... don't worry if you or your child don't know what any of those things are... that's why I'm here). I have some credits in Jill Scott's album "Light of the Sun" as a background vocalist. I also have some substantial classical vocal skills (in a more general term, "opera"), however I don't teach voice. As far as piano, I have a background of classical training from college, and I currently boast a clientele list of 19 private students.

About Mark

Learning music, especially at a young age, can have a positive impact in life. From simply playing music in the home to performing music for large audiences, the basic goal is the same: the enjoyment of being a proficient musician. I have written a bit about my experience and how I can use this to help you to become a great musician.
I began studying music when I was 8 years old. My early lessons taught me not only about music but about music teaching. As a result of these experiences, I vowed to teach students music that is meaningful to them.
Moving along, in high school I played in rock bands with my friends. I can never stress how important it is to play with other people. I always encourage my students to ...

Coming from a beginner-level guitar player who has previously taken guitar courses, Andrew's definitely extremely talented and, equally importantly, very insightful and understanding when it comes to teaching. He is patient, smart, draws good examples for understanding concepts, and is enjoyable to play alongside with.

andrew is a great teacher

i've been taking bass lessons from andrew for several years and have nothing but great things to say about his teaching abilities. he is organized yet flexible, allowing you to take the lessons the direction you want to take it. he can really connect to the way you think and channel that to advance your skills. my only complaint i don't see him enough, but that's my fault.

Great Instructor

Andrew went above and beyond what I ever expected. He did a great job of covering rudiments and technical aspects, while simultaneously focusing on the "art" of bass playing. He was very aware of my skill level and responsive to my needs as a student. I highly recommend him for beginners and imagine that he would be great for more skilled students as well

Vince T. Philadelphia, PA

Music Theory is essential for a well-rounded musician to grasp. Not only should a musician know what sounds good, but why it sounds good. Simple theory includes note names, reading music, melody, and rhythm. Complex theory includes how extended chord structures relate to each other, Serialism, and harmonization.

Vince was first introduced to music theory when he began playing trumpet and reading music. He learned the basics such as notes, scales, triads, key signatures, and time signatures, from the perspective as a performer. Later (especially when he started studying guitar and piano) Vince studied intervals, more exotic scales, and chord progressions. At college and graduate school, he formally studied advanced music theory as applied to tonal harmony, twentieth century music, and jazz.

Often, theories are built upon other theories and thus support each other. Vince can teach the basics and some of the most advanced theoretical concepts to any musician regardless of ...

Vince first began teaching music in 2006 as the trumpet instructor at Silver Creek Central School; he directed trumpet master classes for high school students. Vince later took on various private students teaching trumpet, guitar, electric bass, improvisation, and arrangement & composition. While earning his ...

Vince is a wonderful teacher and a fantastic performer. He introduced me to a handful of rather advanced music theories when I was still a pre-intermediate music student and was able to communicate the ideas clearly and precisely. We don't play the same instruments--I'm a guitarist, he's a trumpeter--but it didn't matter since Vince uses clear language and live examples to demonstrate what he teaches. I learned a lot from him and would highly recommend lessons with him, especially one-on-one style lessons.

Vince really knows his stuff! I play acoustic guitar. I guess I would classify myself as an intermediate player. What I really like about Vince is the variety of instruments he can teach. I have had the chance to also learn about playing electric guitar and electric bass.

Vince is a very gifted multi-instrumentalist and recording engineer. He is an excellent trumpet player, bassist, backing vocalist and pro-tools engineer. His ear for arrangement is spot-on. Other defining attributes are his patience and willingness to teach. Vince will never look at the clock or feel like he is doing you a favor when he is teaching you something challenging. That, to me, is as important as technical prowess. Hire Vince as your teacher and you'll have no regrets!
