About Sarah

Hi my name is Sarah. I have a passion for teaching students of all ages and abilities and I can help students achieve success while motivating them and generating significant interest in all aspects of musical enjoyment and appreciation.

Music education improves cognitive abilities and strenghtens the brains’ attention networks. It teaches students how to work in a collaborative environment which teaches them patience, how to think critically, make decisions and develop listening skills. Music making builds a sense of community.

By learning what background in music my students have and in determining what level of interest they have in the subject, I will show them I am truly interested in their development. These lessons will develop their talents and help them ...

I have known Sarah for ten years. As Associate Professor I have served as her instructor and mentor. As a former school principal K-12 I can honestly say I would hire Sarah in an instant. She is extremely knowledgeable and an excellent teacher. Perhaps most impressive about Sarah is her talent for identifying student challenges and developing lessons to overcome any weaknesses. She is also a teacher who is always optimistic---she is a wonderful motivator. On a personal level she is a young woman of the highest character and she has my highest recommendation.

I have worked with Sarah over the past year assisting her with the development of her music teaching business, and in particular as an editor for the website of her business, Eskay’s Music Lessons. In working with and mentoring Sarah, I have come to know her on both a personal and professional level. What is immediately obvious about Sarah is her love of music, and her desire to share this with as many people as possible through teaching. Sarah is developing her business so she may teach others to embrace their own musical talents as she has embraced her own. I have spent many hours with Sarah and have observed how dedicated and devoted she is to operating a successful business and ensuring all of her customers receive the best music instruction available. In my opinion, Sarah’s determination, work-ethic, patience, and enthusiasm towards music and her business goals will undoubtedly result in an exceptional business to match her exceptional musical talents.

Sarah is a very passionate and creative person when it comes to the arts. While student teaching with me, she was always professional. She was actively engaged in the learning process and worked hard at helping the students become successful musicians and learners. In the class, students would be presented with challenging material that gave them to space to get at a deeper level of music learning. They asked questions. They wanted to learn. As a teacher, she is calm and patient. She is capable of capturing the needs of students while using their interests in the lesson. She can relate to them and that is what makes her so easy to talk to. Sarah was greatly appreciated and respected by the students at school. She exposed them to new music and a encouraged them to listen and look at music differently. Working with Sarah was a great experience. She and I would bounce ideas around until we found exactly what would "click" with the students. She is not only a skilled and talented musician herself, but a teacher with the students' best interests at heart.

As an experienced performer I have plenty of advice to give on the various aspects and rigors of live performance including live sound, demeanor, crowd interaction, and preparation.

About VJ

Hello All!
I am a guitarist/composer/educator who holds a M.A. Jazz Performance degree from the Aaron Copeland School of Music at Queens College. I also have a B.A. Music degree with a concentration in classical guitar performance from Buffalo State College in my hometown of Buffalo, NY. However, most of my training and experience comes from playing many different styles of music with many brilliant musicians on the scenes of Buffalo and New York.
If there is just one thing I know about music, it is that playing music is supposed to be fun and satisfying! It is my job to help my students maintain that mindset as they navigate through the obstacles of musical growth. I am looking forward to teaching all of you, as well as learning from all of you myself. Now, lets make some ...

You can say that I'm a rookie when it comes to playing guitar. So, I decided to do something about it. I'm taking 45 minutes sessions with Nick and I have to say that he is a really talented a teacher as well as he is a musician. While having fun during the lessons, I rake in so many new tricks up my sleeve. I love his individual approach, flexibility, and creativity just to outline a couple. For the short while that I've known Nick, he's been all, a patient teacher, a talented musician, but most of all he's been an inspiration to me. My goal was to learn to read music and learn how to play the instrument more fluently. But now, the whole world of new and fascinating opportunities opened up to me because of his mentoring and support. Thank you Nick! I wish I could take longer sessions with you on a more regular basis.

Finally found a guitar teacher who provides individualized instruction based on what I know and don't know. I previously depended on my guitar to make music. Nick showed me how to make the music yourself in your head and then find it on the guitar. He has great patience and also answers every question . And, most important for me, he writes out the lesson notes at the end and sends them. Every previous teacher told me 20 things in a lesson and I remembered two. Nick makes sure that every minute of my lesson is given proper attention.

Highly Recommended

I've taken classes with Nick in a group setting (at Jalopy) and privately, and while I studied guitar as a kid and trombone in school, and I've never had a better music teacher. And I do mean music teacher, not just guitar teacher - Nick's approach is to start with the MUSIC you want to play, not just the guitar as a collection of strings and frets or a series of fingerings to memorize. He's realistic about where people are starting and how much time and energy they have to devote to the instrument with all else happening in their lives (school, work, family, whatever), but he really wants all his students to get better, to learn and progress and love the music like he does, and leads by example of his own musicianship and dedication to the art form. Highly recommended for all levels, all styles.
Jason T. Cambria Heights, NY

I offer my students 3 recitals a year in some very nice halls around New York, where they would get a chance to perform their music in front of an audience of friends and family.

Performing is a great way to see as a student what you do well and what you can improve in. Each performance gains a level of experience that can not be gain by just playing for yourself. Through this experience you will learn what it takes to get better as a musician.
