About Me

"Music is the best!" --Frank Zappa

That is the only thing I can claim to know for certain.

My ideals as a teacher are sound control, fun, and community. I teach all of my students how to play their instrument in a manner which they understand and enjoy. I demonstrate how much fun music can be once my student has the facility to create sound freely. And I inspire them to use this gift for bringing people closer together.

Since beginning my musical studies at California State University Northridge, I have been working as a musician in the greater Los Angeles area. Now over a decade later, I continue to perform and teach - enjoying the whole ride wherever it takes me. While my primary instruments are Contrabass and Electric Bass Guitar, I have technical know how on a wide variety of instruments. Some of these include the violin, guitar, and piano.

I'm also happy to teach students who already have technical facility are interested in learning about things like musicality, melodic phrasing, harmonic analysis, rhythmic accuracy, ear training, reading in various clefs, improvisation, and much more.

Let's jam!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can bring whatever I need to a lesson, but I expect all of my students to take the initiative to have all necessary equipment for playing. That being said, if a problem ever arises in the procuring of this equipment, I am always happy to help in anyway that I can.

*** Lesson Details ***
I strongly believe that, if every child would be provided with an ideal environment, would gain extraordinary ability. There are no exceptions. No one can tell how able man is by the nature. What is known is the ability that is spoiled or developed. It cannot be denied that most children speak their native languages beautifully by learning about 3000-4000 words by age 5 or 6. Nothing can clearer demonstrate of the original power of the human mind. Through the years of studying and teaching music I realized that this is the most important concept for developing each kid's talent, to increase his or her ability to the maximum. Therefore I am combining the great methods of teaching violin. The Suzuki method and the Russian school method. Suzuki method helps at the earliest stage of playing an instrument and I am using later Russian school method for more advanced period of studying.

Teaching is my passion and I thoroughly love what I am doing.
Every single child is special to me and every one receives special attention.
My students also play semiannual recital, witch helps them to gain confidence.

Lessons with me...

I'm passionate about music and its many benefits, both academically, emotionally, and physically. I love to share my joy with my students in a fun, collaborative way that is professional and enjoyable. The pace is determined by the goals of the student, and materials are tailor-made to suit your preferences. Classical instruction is essential for proper technique, but branching out to Celtic fiddle or movie soundtracks is a definite option!

I recommend weekly lessons, and daily practice should be equivalent to the length of the lesson. Younger students should do 30-minute lessons, but around 8-years old, I generally start to recommend 45-60 minute lessons. Serious students preferred.

Brandon R. Manhattan Beach, CA

Subjects Taught

Acoustic Guitar, Blues Guitar, Ear Training, Fiddle, Guitar, Music Performance, Piano, Singing, Violin

About Me

I'm Brandon! I've been playing the violin for 20 years, started when I was 5 years old. I've always had a passion for music and I love helping others learn! I know it can be difficult and frustrating at times, but I'VE BEEN THERE, and I can help you!

A little bit about me...

After 20 years of playing, I've been able to travel the world and perform in some of the most prestigious halls. Carnegie Hall in 2007, was a highlight for me, but I have had a wonderful time playing with the CalPhil at Disney Hall and the Arboretum. I was honored to be a part of the Vienna Honor Orchestra (VHO) where we performed in Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia. I have donated hundreds of hours of my time to community service, playing in quartets for community events, and for my efforts I've been recognized by the Manhattan Beach City Council, Los Angeles City Council, and the California State Senate.

Now I'll answer some questions....

How did you learn guitar?
I taught myself how to play. I've been playing guitar for 6 years and I have my own alternative rock band. You can listen here: www.soundcloud.com/spaceshipband2012

How did you learn to play piano?
It was a required class in my undergraduate at the University of Redlands, but I was also interested in learning how to play. I've been playing piano for 5 years.

How did you learn to sing?
I've really been singing my entire life. I was involved with musical theater in elementary and middle school. I'd have to say I'm really self-taught, but I did have vocal lessons in my undergraduate at the University of Redlands.
Listen to me sing here: www.soundcloud.com/banditscavalcade

How did you learn to fiddle?
When I was living in Bondurant, Wyoming where I spent some time with a local legend who taught me how to fiddle better than Charlie Daniels.
